The Ensemble Kalman Filter Finite Element Method: Application to Three Dimensional Elastic Body
Abstract The purpose of the present study is to estimate state values at a certain point by using an observation of the acceleration at another point. Usually an observed data have certain errors introduced by geological uncertainties and poorly known parameters. In addition, the errors make precision of estimation worse. To overcome these problems we apply the Ensemble Kalman Filter finite element method as an analytical approach. This allows for observation on-going processes to be used for enhancing the quality of subsequent state predictions. In this study, we use simulated data which is given by numerical values with the white Gaussian noise as observations. For spatial discretization, the finite element method is applied. The Galerkin method is used as an interpolation method. For temporal discritization, the Newmark-β method is applied. As a case study,we assume cantilever beam which is subjected to an external impact at the initial time
