A wide range of respiratory diseases, such as cold and flu, asthma, and COVID-19, affect people's daily lives worldwide. In medical practice, respiratory sounds are widely used in medical services to diagnose various respiratory illnesses and lung disorders. The traditional diagnosis of such sounds requires specialized knowledge, which can be costly and reliant on human expertise. Recently, cough audio recordings have been used to automate the process of detecting respiratory conditions. This research aims to examine various acoustic features that enhance the performance of machine learning (ML) models in detecting COVID-19 from cough signals. This study investigates the efficacy of three feature extraction techniques, including Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC), Chroma, and Spectral Contrast features, on two ML algorithms, Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), and thus proposes an efficient COVID-19 detection system. The proposed system produces a practical solution and demonstrates higher state-of-the-art classification performance on COUGHVID and Virufy datasets for COVID-19 detection.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure

A substantial amount of work was carried out on the use of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) in reinforcing concrete structural elements, which demonstrated considerable inelasticity or deformity through monotonous and fatigue loads. Even so, the action of FRP bars in FRP-RC columns and frame structures has not yet been studied during reversed cyclic loading. In this research, reversed cyclic loading was conducted on three beam-column joint models using the finite element method with ANSYS software. The first model was for a joint designed with steel rebar for both the longitudinal reinforcement and stirrups. Glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) rebar was used to reinforced the second joint model for both longitudinal reinforcement and steel stirrups, and the third joint model was designed with hybrid steel/GFRP reinforcement for the longitudinal reinforcement and steel stirrups. The performance of the three models under reversed cyclic loading, such as load vs. story drift and energy dissipation capacity, were compared. The GFRP-reinforced model displayed a predominantly elastic activity up to failure. Although its energy dissipation was weak, its performance in terms of total storey drift demand was satisfactory

In a writer recognition system, the system performs a “one-to-many” search in a large database with handwriting samples of known authors and returns a possible candidate list. This paper proposes method for writer identification handwritten Arabic word without segmentation to sub letters based on feature extraction speed up robust feature transform (SURF) and K nearest neighbor classification (KNN) to enhance the writer's  identification accuracy. After feature extraction, it can be cluster by K-means algorithm to standardize the number of features. The feature extraction and feature clustering called to gather Bag of Word (BOW); it converts arbitrary number of image feature to uniform length feature vector. The proposed method experimented using (IFN/ENIT) database. The recognition rate of experiment result is (96.666)

Flat plates are favor structure systems usually used in parking garages and high-rise buildings due to its simplicity for construction. However, flat plates have some inherent structural problems, due to high shear stress surrounding the supporting columns which cause a catastrophic brittle type of failure called "Punching Shear Failure". Several solutions are used to avoid punching shear failure, including the use of drop panels or punching shear reinforcement. The latter is being a more sophisticated solution from the structural ductility, the architectural and the economical point of view. This study aims at investigating the effect of stirrups as shear reinforcement in enhancing the punching strength of interior slab-column connections. A total of four full-scale interior slab-column connections were tested up to failure. All slabs had a side length of 1700 mm and 160 mm thickness with 200 mm x 200 mm square column. The test parameters were the presence of shear reinforcement and stirrups concentration around the supporting column. The test results showed that the distribution of stirrups over the critical punching shear zone was an efficient solution to enhance not only the punching shear capacity but also the ductility of the connection. Furthermore, the concentrating of stirrups shear reinforcement in the vicinity of the column for the tested slabs increases the punching shear capacity by 13 % compared to the uniform distribution at same amount of shear reinforcement
