    Phantom Field from Conformal Invariance

We establish a correspondence between a conformally invariant complex scalar field action (with a conformal self-interaction potential) and the action of a phantom scalar field minimally coupled to gravity (with a cosmological constant). In this correspondence, the module of the complex scalar field is used to relate conformally the metrics of both systems while its phase is identified with the phantom scalar field. At the level of the equations, the correspondence allows to map solution of the conformally non-linear Klein-Gordon equation with vanishing energy-momentum tensor to solution of a phantom scalar field minimally coupled to gravity with cosmological constant satisfying a massless Klein-Gordon equation. The converse is also valid with the advantage that it offers more possibilities owing to the freedom of rewriting a metric as the conformal transformation of another metric. Finally, we provide some examples of this correspondence.Comment: 5 pages, two column

AdS black holes with arbitrary scalar coupling

A general class of axionic and electrically charged black holes for a self-interacting scalar field nonminimally coupled to Einstein gravity with a negative cosmological constant is presented. These solutions are the first examples of black holes with an arbitrary nonminimal coupling ξ\xi in four dimensions. Moreover, due to the presence of two three-forms fields, the topology of the horizon of these black holes is planar. We discuss some properties of these solutions electing particular values of the nonminimal coupling parameter. A special case arises when ξ=1/4\xi=1/4, for which the gravitational field is confined in a region close to the event horizon. We also show that these black holes emerge from stealth AdS configurations as the axionic fields are switched on, and that they can be generated through a Kerr-Schild transformation. Finally, in the appendix, we extend these results to arbitrary dimension.Comment: 23 page

A Cardy-like formula for rotating black holes with planar horizon

We show that the semiclassical entropy of DD-dimensional rotating (an)isotropic black holes with planar horizon can be successfully computed according to a Cardy-like formula. This formula does not refer to any central charges but instead involves the vacuum energy which is identified with a gravitational bulk soliton. The soliton is obtained from the non-rotating black hole solution by means of a double analytic continuation. The robustness of the Cardy-like formula is tested with numerous and varied examples, including AdS, Lifshitz and hyperscaling violation planar black holes.Comment: Published in JHEP04(2017)09

Lie-algebra expansions, Chern-Simons theories and the Einstein-Hilbert lagrangian

Starting from gravity as a Chern-Simons action for the AdS algebra in five dimensions, it is possible to deform the theory through an expansion of the Lie algebra that leads to a system consisting of the Einstein-Hilbert action plus nonminimally coupled matter. The deformed system is gauge invariant under the Poincare group enlarged by an Abelian ideal. Although the resulting action naively looks like General Relativity plus corrections due to matter sources, it is shown that the nonminimal couplings produce a radical departure from GR. Indeed, the dynamics is not continuously connected to the one obtained from Einstein-Hilbert action. In a matter-free configuration and in the torsionless sector, the field equations are too strong a restriction on the geometry as the metric must satisfy both the Einstein and pure Gauss-Bonnet equations. In particular, the five-dimensional Schwarzschild geometry fails to be a solution; however, configurations corresponding to a brane-world with positive cosmological constant on the worldsheet are admissible when one of the matter fields is switched on. These results can be extended to higher odd dimensions.Comment: 11 page

pp Waves of Conformal Gravity with Self-Interacting Source

Recently, Deser, Jackiw and Pi have shown that three-dimensional conformal gravity with a source given by a conformally coupled scalar field admits pp wave solutions. In this letter, we consider this model with a self-interacting potential preserving the conformal structure. A pp wave geometry is also supported by this system and, we show that this model is equivalent to topologically massive gravity with a cosmological constant whose value is given in terms of the potential strength.Comment: 6 pages, minor changes, accepted in Ann.
