    - A comparison of the inhibiting efficiency of antibiotic drugs (ciprofloxacin, cloxacillin, and amoxicillin) on the corrosion of mild steel in 1 mol·L−1 HCl were studied at room temperature using mass loss measurement. The main reason is probably be due to the formation of protective coverage by the inhibitor as other authors reported previously. Adsorption characteristics of the inhibitor has also been studied using simple equation and it was found that drugs inhibits the corrosion of mild steel by being adsorbed on the surface of mild steel by a physical adsorption mechanism. The adsorption of drugs on the mild steel surface was found to be spontaneous and obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. It was observed that the test drug has a promising inhibitory action in acid medium against corrosion of mild steel. Moreover it was revealed that an inhibition efficiency of 80.1 % can be achieved with 3×10-3M ciprofloxacin drug treatment on mild steel

The selective detection of citrate anions is essential for various biological functions in living systems. A quantitative assessment of citrate is required for the diagnosis of various diseases in the human body; however, it is extremely challenging to develop efficient fluorescence and color-detecting molecular probes for sensing citrate in water. Herein, we report a macrocycle-based dinuclear foldamer (1) assembled with eosin Y (EY) that has been studied for anion binding by fluorescence and colorimetric techniques in water at neutral pH. Results from the fluorescence titrations reveal that the 1·EY ensemble strongly binds citrate anions, showing remarkable selectivity over a wide range of inorganic and carboxylate anions. The addition of citrate anions to the 1·EY adduct led to a large fluorescence enhancement, displaying a detectable color change under both visible and UV light in water up to 2 μmol. The biocompatibility of 1·EY as an intracellular carrier in a biological system was evaluated on primary human foreskin fibroblast (HF) cells, showing an excellent cell viability. The strong binding properties of the ensemble allow it to be used as a highly sensitive, detective probe for biologically relevant citrate anions in various applications

    Get PDF
This study finds the factors that affect Bangladesh’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) through regression approach. Stepwise and Ridge regression techniques have been applied to build the suitable regression model. Model adequacy also has been checked and multicollinearity problem is addressed for a plausible model using appropriate remedial measures for each of the model one after another that yields stepwise regression. The multicollinearity problem has also been tried to combat by ridge regression. Finally, the model which is adequate and free from multicollinearity problem after applying the ridge regression has been considered as the credible model for predicting the GDP of Bangladesh. The final model shows that the factors population, imports of goods and services, agriculture value added, manufacturing value added and labor force are positively affecting the GDP of Bangladesh

Global warming is considered as a consequence of extensive use of fossil fuels. Post combustion CO2 capture is an interesting and alternative solution where mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) can be an exciting candidate. This research focuses on the optimization of MMM composition consisting of Pebax® 3533 as the polymer matrix and porous coordination polymer (PCP) MIL-178(Fe) as a filler for gas separation application. MIL-178(Fe) characterized with SEM, TEM and TGA were applied to compare bare polymer and MMM. Optimum composition of the MMM obtained was 5 wt.% MIL-178(Fe) in Pebax® 3533. Average thickness of the optimized dense MMM was 116 ± 8 µm. Such MMM showed CO2 permeability and CO2/N2 selectivity of 312 ± 5 Barrer and 25.0 ± 0.5, respectively, 12% and 25% improved regarding the bare membrane. Additionally, optimum MMM was applied for CO2/CH4 separation and successfully compared in terms of improved CO2 permeability and CO2/CH4 selectivity

The emergence of quantum computing has introduced unprecedented security challenges to conventional cryptographic systems, particularly in the domain of optical communications. This research addresses these challenges by innovatively combining quantum key distribution (QKD), specifically the E91 protocol, with logistic chaotic maps to establish a secure image transmission scheme. Our approach utilizes the unpredictability of chaotic systems alongside the robust security mechanisms inherent in quantum entanglement. The scheme is further fortified with an eavesdropping detection mechanism based on CHSH inequality, thereby enhancing its resilience against unauthorized access. Through quantitative simulations, we demonstrate the effectiveness of this scheme in encrypting images, achieving high entropy and sensitivity to the original images. The results indicate a significant improvement in encryption and decryption efficiency, showcasing the potential of the scheme as a viable solution against the vulnerabilities posed by quantum computing advancements. Our research offers a novel perspective in secure optical communications, blending the principles of chaos theory with QKD to create a more robust cryptographic framework.Comment: 29 pages, 10 equations, 11 figure

Development of a Quadruped Crawling Robot Prototype

    Get PDF
Although wheeled robots are commonly used, it has limited ability to move to any terrains at ease. They suffer from difficulties when travelling over uneven and rough terrains. Legged robots have an advantage over the wheeled robots in that they are suited for such situations. The implementation of legged robots normally requires many motors to move every joint in a robot leg. Additional motor will increase the construction cost, robot weight, and the demand for power supply. Moreover, robot simulation becomes more complex. This research is related to the design and development of a cost effective quadruped autonomous robot. The robot can moves according to a unique pattern using three servo motors as its actuator in each of its leg. The design of the robot is firstly made with CAD program and then the structure of the body and the leg is analyzed in order to find a correct balance and to make sure the servo motors are capable to move the robot. A prototype of the quadruped robot is fabricated and tested thoroughly. Experimental studies are carried out to test its stability issues when the robot moves. The robot is capable of moving forward, backward, turn left and turn right by crawling its way. A microcontroller is used as the brain of the robot assisted by two analog distance sensor for better obstacle sensing. It uses a rechargeable battery as the power supply for the microcontroller. The servo motors on the other hand are powered by another rechargeable battery. At the end of this research, a working prototype has been developed

Kenaf/empty fruit bunch/polylactic acid (kenaf/EFB/PLA) hybrid biocomposites were prepared using hot press technique. The ratio of fiber to polylactic acid was set at 60:40 with 1:1 ratio between kenaf and empty fruit bunch fibers. Physical, mechanical and thermal properties of hybrid biocomposites were subsequently characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, tensile and water absorption tests. Test results indicated that mechanically stronger fiber was able to support the weaker fiber. Hybrid fiber biocomposite had higher crystallinity as compared to single fiber biocomposite. Water absorption of hybrid composite was higher as compared to single fiber composite. Thermal result revealed that hybridization of fiber was not significantly influence the thermal properties of composites. However, the presence of two different fibers proposed good wettability properties, which could reduce the formation of voids at the fibers-polymer interface and produce composites with high stiffness and strength

Black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) is the second most important aquaculture species of shrimp in the world. In addition to growth traits, uncooked and cooked body color of shrimp are traits of significance for profitability and consumer acceptance. This study investigated for the first time, the phenotypic and genetic variances and relationships for body weight and body color traits, obtained from image analyses of 838 shrimp, representing the progeny from 55 sires and 52 dams. The color of uncooked shrimp was subjectively scored on a scale from 1 to 4, with “1” being the lightest/pale color and “4” being the darkest color. For cooked shrimp color, shrimp were graded firstly by subjective scoring using a commercial grading score card, where the score ranged from 1 to 12 representing light to deep coloration which was subsequently found to not be sufficiently reliable with poor repeatability of measurement (r = 0.68–0.78) Therefore, all images of cooked color were regraded on a three-point scale from brightest and lightest colored cooked shrimp, to darkest and most color-intense, with a high repeatability (r = 0.80–0.92). Objective color of both cooked and uncooked color was obtained by measurement of RGB intensities (values range from 0 to 255) for each pixel from each shrimp. Using the “convertColor” function in “R”, the RGB values were converted to L*a*b* (CIE Lab) systems of color properties. This system of color space was established in 1976, by the International Commission of Illumination (CIE) where “L*” represents the measure of degree of lightness, values range from 0 to 100, where 0 = pure black and 100 = pure white. The value “a*” represents red to green coloration, where a positive value represents the color progression towards red and a negative value towards green. The value “b*” represents blue to yellow coloration, where a positive value refers to more yellowish and negative towards the blue coloration. In total, eight color-related traits were investigated. An ordinal mixed (threshold) model was adopted for manually (subjectively) scored color phenotypes, whereas all other traits were analyzed by linear mixed models using ASReml software to derive variance components and estimated breeding values (EBVs). Moderate to low heritability estimates (0.05–0.35) were obtained for body color traits. For subjectively scored cooked and uncooked color, EBV-based selection would result in substantial genetic improvement in these traits. The genetic correlations among cooked, uncooked and body weight traits were high and ranged from −0.88 to 0.81. These suggest for the first time that 1) cooked color can be improved indirectly by genetic selection based on color of uncooked/live shrimp, and 2) intensity of coloration is positively correlated with body weight traits and hence selection for body weight will also improve color traits in this population

A field experiment was conducted to investigate some morpho-physiological characters, yield attributes and yield of three rapeseed mutants along with mother variety. Results revealed that LAI and AGR increased till 65 days after sowing (DAS) followed by a decline at later growth stages whereas RGR decreased with age of the plants. Two plant characters such as LAI and AGR contributed to the superior TDM production. Results indicated that a high yielding rapeseed genotype should possess larger LAI, higher TDM production ability, superior AGR at all growth stages, superior biochemical parameters which result in superior yield components and seed yield
