The idea of establishing the International Classes should be supported by good preparation of all components involved in the teaching anli lea ing process. Running a class in English will create some new and perhaps unexpected problems. As the first step in preparing the International Classes. Soegijapranata Catholic University has held a teuher training for International Classes Preparation. The teacher training could be used as a reflection to answer the question: Is Soegijapranata Catholic University ready for the International Classes

    THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ LEVEL OF ANXIETY AND STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT IN WRITING CLASS

    Writing is one of the language skills which shows how a second language learner performs his or her verbal competence. Writing performance of an English learner can reflect the learner’s knowledge in English language patterns through the written discourse they present. However, due to several factors, writing in the target language is not always easy for a second language learner. Thus, there are some Indonesian students fail to perform their best in writing though those who can not achieve good mark in writing are not always the left behind students.Second language learner’s verbal performance is determined by three internal factors namely filter, organizer, and monitor (Dulay, Burt, Krashen, 1982:45-60). The first factor is a subconscious process  related to learner’s affective state which includes anxiety. This research starts from a hypothesis that students’ high level of anxiety is followed by lower students’ achievement. Thus, this research is aimed to prove the hypothesis as well as seeing if there is a strong correlation between the students’  level of anxiety and their achievement. The data were gained through document, questionnaire using Westide Test Anxiety Scale and Focus Group Discussion. The results of the study indicate a weak negative correlation between students’ level of anxiety and students’ achievement. From the result of the Focus Group Discussion,  it was found that the sources of students’ anxiety were varied. Â

    EFL Students’ Self-Regulation in Online Learning during the Covid-19 Pandemic

    This study investigates self-regulation in online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic, specifically how students regulate their learning activities amidst challenging circumstances. This research focuses on the challenges faced by students in online learning and the strategies students employed to regulate their learning process. The participants of this study were 38 students from two private universities in Indonesia. Data were collected through FGD and analyzed by using open coding. The results of this study revealed that students dealt with difficulties during online learning, specifically related to an internet connection, an unsupportive learning environment, and negative emotions. However, they utilized self-regulated learning strategies to support them in online learning activities such as self-consequating, environmental structuring, emotion regulation, and time management.     &nbsp

    Keberadaan Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa global (Crystal,2003) berdampak pada meningkatnya kebutuhan akan bahasa Inggris di hampir semua aspek bidang kehidupan, termasuk di dalamnya dunia pendidikan. Kesadaran akan pentingnya bahasa Inggris di era globalisasi telah mendorong banyak lembaga pendidikan terutama di tingkat dasar untuk menyiapkan peserta didiknya mahir berbahasa Inggris. Oleh karena itu, banyak sekolah dasar yang menawarkan program dwi bahasa dengan melibatkan penggunaan bahasa Inggris dalam proses belajar mengajar. Hal ini didasarkan pada pandangan bahwa anak-anak yang belajar di tingkat sekolah dasar ada pada rentang masa emas pembelajaran bahasa kedua atau yang dikenal dengan istilah critical period hypothesis (Ellis, 1998). Namun demikian, penggunaan bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa pengantar di sekolah ini menuntut kesiapan sekolah dan tenaga pengajar baik dalam penguasaan bahasa Inggris maupun materi pengajaran yang disampaikan dalam bahasa Inggris. Tenaga pengajar menjadi salah satu faktor penting penentu keberhasilan program dwi bahasa. Untuk itu, tenaga pengajar perlu dipersiapkan dengan baik. Salah satu upaya untuk mempersiapkan atau meningkatkan kualitas pelayanan guru dalam bidang pengajaran dengan menggunakan bahasa Inggris adalah dengan melalui pelatihan-pelatihan dan lokakarya. Lokarya ini dimaksudkan untuk memberikan bekal kepada para guru di SD Kuncup Melati Semarang untuk dapat mengajar dalam bahasa Inggris. Bahwasanya tidak semua guru yang mengajar di program dwi bahasa memiliki kemampuan berbahasa Inggris yang cukup tinggi menuntut kesigapan pihak sekolah dan pengelola untuk membekali guru dengan strategi mengajar yang tepat dengan memaksimalkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris mereka (Hartono, 2016). Berdasarkan berberapa poin seperti telah dipaparkan di atas, program yang berjudul A One-day workshop on strategies to teach in English ini diajukan. Diharapkan melalui program ini para guru di SD Kuncup Melati yang menawarkan program dwi bahasa untuk mata pelajaran matematika (math) dan ilmu pengetahuan alam (science) dapat meningkatkan kemampuan dan kualitas mereka dalam mengajar dengan bahasa Inggris
