Tongue squamous cell carcinoma, a relatively frequent malignancy in the oral cavity, has a great tendency to metastasize to regional lymph nodes that worsens the prognosis of the disease. The anti metastasis gene NM23, encodes a 17 KD cytoplasmic and nuclear proteins, has shown controversy behavior as metastatis supressor in human cancer. An observational study using immunohistochemical staining method with LSAB (-) technique was conducted on 41 paraffin block specimens to show the relationship between significance of the expression of NM23 protein as a marker for cancer metastasis and the staging, cancer grading, and the positive regional head and neck lymph nodes. Statistical significance of difference was evaluated using Chi square test (p<0.01). The result showed that there was an inverse relationship between expression of NM23 protein and the cancer grading as well as frequency of the positive regional heal and neck lymph nodes, supporting the role of NM23 as metastasis supressor factor that may be useful for predicting tongue squamous cell carcinoma metastasis.

Background: Odontogenic cysts are cysts arising from the odontogenic epithelium. According to the World Health Organization in 2017, classification of odontogenic cysts are classified into cysts originating from inflammatory and developmental processes. Most cystic lesions of the oral and maxillofacial cavity are of odontogenic origin and have higher incidence than other body parts. This study to explain about prevalence of odontogenic cyst in RSUP Hasan Sadikin in 2019-2020 .Method: This study was a retrospective study that included 30 patients diagnosed with odontogenic cysts during 2019-2020. The data taken in each patient were age, gender, location of predilection, investigations, diagnosis, management, and recurrence of cases of odontogenic cysts.Result: A total of 15 patients had developmental odontogenic cysts and 15 had inflammatory odontogenic cysts. Most developmental cysts were 12 patients with dentigerous cysts, Odontogenci Keratocyst in 2 patients, and calcifying odontogenic cyst in 1 case. Inflammatory cysts were dominated by 15 patients with radicular cysts. Conclusion: Prevalence of odontogenic cyst was found more in female, with radicular cyst and location in the maxill

CHARACTERISTIC OF AMELOBLASTOMA IN ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY AT HASAN SADIKIN HOSPITAL : 2 YEARS RETROSPECTIVE STUDY

ABSTRACTBackground: Ameloblastoma is the most common odontogenic tumor. Ameloblastoma is a borderline tumor because it is a benign but locally aggressive tumor with a high recurrence rate if the excision is not complete. The principle of treatment for ameloblastoma is excision all the tumor. This article aimed to conduct a retrospective study to analyze the characteristics of ameloblastoma in patients at Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Hasan Sadikin Hospital Oral Surgery between the period of January 2018-December 2019Method: This is a retrospective study with 37 patients diagnosed with ameloblastoma during 2018-2019. We took data from each patient such as gender, age, radiological features, histopathological diagnosis of the location of ameloblastoma, management, defects, reconstruction. Result: A total of 22 patients were diagnosed with plexiform ameloblastoma, 12 cases of follicular ameloblastoma, 3 cases of mixed plexiform and follicular ameloblastoma. 31 patients were treated radically, while 6 patients were treated conservatively. Radical treatment is more often used to reduce recurrence rates, whereas conservative measures are indicated in children and adolescents, as well as adult patients with unilocular ameloblastoma types. Conclusion: The most characteristic of ameloblastoma is plexiform ameloblastoma in the mandible. Ameloblastoma is usually performed radically and reconstructed with an AO plate

Treatment of bilateral ankylosis of the temporomandibular joint with temporalis superficial fascia interpositional flap

Ankylosis of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) involves fusion of the mandibular condyle to the base of the skull. Trauma and infection are the leading causes of ankylosis. A case of true bilateral ankylosis of the temporomandibular joint is presented. A 21-year-old male patient had a multiple bone fractures history at the age of 13 due to a sports injury. A TMJ injury might not be detected at that time resulting in a progressive restriction of his mouth opening. He presented with almost complete lack of mobility of the mandible. Surgical treatment was a resection of the ankylotic bone mass, interposition temporalis superficial fascia flaps, and early mobilization and aggressive physiotherapy. The functional results showed good remarks

Peran Gen p53 dan Regulasi Apoptosis Pada Perkembangan Kanker, Khususnya Karsinoma Kepala dan Leher

It is now well established that cancer is a complex genetic disease. These genetic alterations include the function of tumor supressor gene p 53 and apoptosis. The interaction between these factors have key role in cell proliferation and cell death. Functional lost of apoptotic regulation is an important thing in tumor pathogenesis as tumor will develop in rapid manner and indefinitely

    Keatokista (Keratocyst) dan Perawatannya

Keratocyst is the most aggressive type of odontogenic cysts with high recurrence rate. The main factors that contribute to its recurrence rate are presumed to be the thinness of the cyst wall, the high copability of the cyst epithelium to proliferate or multiplicate and the presence of the microcysts in the mother cyst capsule. The treatment of the lesion is still controversial and ranges from enucleation to resection. A relatively new approach to the therapy of keratocysts is to fix, that the cyst in a fixation agent for preventing spillage of vital epithelial cells during surgery
