    On univoque Pisot numbers

    We study Pisot numbers β(1,2)\beta \in (1, 2) which are univoque, i.e., such that there exists only one representation of 1 as 1=n1snβn1 = \sum_{n \geq 1} s_n\beta^{-n}, with sn{0,1}s_n \in \{0, 1\}. We prove in particular that there exists a smallest univoque Pisot number, which has degree 14. Furthermore we give the smallest limit point of the set of univoque Pisot numbers.Comment: Accepted by Mathematics of COmputatio

    The consistent pattern is discussed of amino acids found in lunar dust from Apollo missions. The evidence indicates that compounds yielding amino acids were implanted into the surface of the moon by the solar wind, and the kind and amounts of amino acids found on the moon are closely similar to those found in meteorites. It is concluded that there is a common cosmochemical pattern for the moom and meteorites, and this offers evidence of a common course of cosmochemical reactions for carbon

    First ejection from the PSR B1259-63/LS 2883 high mass gamma-ray binary detected during the 2021-2024 binary cycle

    LS 2883/PSR B1259-63 is a high mass, eccentric gamma-ray binary that has previously been observed to eject X-ray emitting material. We report the results of recent Chandra observations near binary apastron in which a new X-ray emitting clump of matter was detected. The clump has a high projected velocity of v0.07cv_{\perp}\approx 0.07c and hard X-ray spectrum, which fits an absorbed power-law model with Γ=1.1±0.3\Gamma=1.1\pm0.3. Although clumps with similar velocities and spectra were detected in some of the previous binary cycles, no resolved clumps were seen near apastron in the preceding cycle of 2017-2021.Comment: RNAA

    A plane-symmetric non-static cosmological model representing a bulk viscous fluid distribution has been obtained which is inhomogeneous and anisotropic and a particular case of which is gravitationally radiative. Without assuming any {\it adhoc} law, we obtain a cosmological constant as a decreasing function of time. The physical and geometric features of the models are also discussed.Comment: 11 page

    Cosmic Ray Physics with the LOFAR Radio Telescope

    The LOFAR radio telescope is able to measure the radio emission from cosmic ray induced air showers with hundreds of individual antennas. This allows for precision testing of the emission mechanisms for the radio signal as well as determination of the depth of shower maximum XmaxX_{\max}, the shower observable most sensitive to the mass of the primary cosmic ray, to better than 20 g/cm2^2. With a densely instrumented circular area of roughly 320 m2^2, LOFAR is targeting for cosmic ray astrophysics in the energy range 101610^{16} - 101810^{18} eV.
