    Story telling is a way of learning that has been used since ancient times and has become a very important learning tool. The teacher tells a story or literary work through story telling and the students do too. Morrow explained that story telling is an activity is fun and stimulates the imagination of students. The reason of teams took this theme was very well known in the North Sumatera region, especially the Mandailing Natal community and story telling was a way of learning that has been used since ancient times and has become a very important learning tool. The teacher conveys a story or literacy work through storytelling and the students do likewise. In addition to make this learning not monotonous, the teacher making groping into several groups then teacher shares English text which contains the story of Sampuraga to each group and tells the students to underline what they know the meaning of as many as 20 words in a period of 15 minutes and the teacher monitors students’ activities. After that, each group wrote down the vocabulary and meanings on the whiteboard in turn so that the students could understand the contents of the story about sampuraga

    This research focused on the effect of students’ teams achievement division (STAD) on students’ reading comprehension at grade X SMA N 7 Padangsidimpuan. The students’ problems in reading comprehension were: 1) Students do not understand what they have read; 2) they can not express the purpose of a text; 3)they are not able to identify main idea ; 4) they can not identify the vocabulary ; 5) they can not get the conclusion of the text that they have read. Beside the students’ problem, teacher’s technique also became a problem in learning reading descriptive text. The teacher did not use suitabletechnique in teaching reading descriptive text. The purpose of this research was to examine whether there was significant effect of the effect of students’ teams achievement division (stad) on students’ reading comprehension at grade x sma n 7 padangsidimpuan The method was used in this research was experimental research. Two classes were chosen randomly as the sample. They were XI MIA-2 as the experimental class that consisted of 25 students and XI MIA-3 as the control class that consisted of 25 students. It was taken after conducting normality and homogeneity test. The data was derived from pre-test and post-test. To analyze the data, the researcher used t-test formula. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that mean score of experimental class after using the effect of students’ teams achievement division (stad) strategy was higher than control class. Mean score of experimental class before using the effect of students’ teams achievement division (stad) strategy was 55.64 and mean score of experimental class after using the effect of students’ teams achievement division (stad)strategy was 73.84. Besides, the score of tcount was higher than ttable (4.14 > 2.021). It meant that the hypothesis alternative (Ha) was accepted. It was concluded that there was the effect of students’ teams achievement division (stad) on students’ reading comprehension at grade x sma n 7 padangsidimpua

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan bahan ajar berbasis kearifan lokal melalui e-learning EDMODO. Sehingga penelitian ini dapat memberikan pengetahuan kepada guru dan siswa bahwa bahan ajar berbasis kearifan lokal sebagai alternatif untuk meningkatkan literasi bahasa Inggris siswa dan menjadikan bahan ajar sebagai sumber dan media pembelajaran. Maka untuk menunjang keberhasilan proses pembelajaran, diperlukan bahan ajar berbasis kearifan lokal melalui E-Learning Edmodo. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian pengembangan perangkat 4D (Four D Model). Berdasarkan hasil analisis data yang diperoleh, validasi bahan ajar berbasis kearifan lokal melalui Edmodo E-Learning diperoleh pada aspek kelayakan isi 3, aspek kebahasaan sebesar 3,375 dan aspek kelayakan penyajian sebesar 3,4; mereka termasuk kriteria yang valid. Dan terjadi peningkatan hasil belajar siswa dimana terjadi peningkatan hasil belajar siswa sebesar 27%

    This research aims to improve the vocabulary of students' English vocabulary and student learning outcomes using Rosetta Stone through Dynamic Immersion media. The Dynamic Immersion is an audiovisual method without translation, so it is hoped that the brains of students will immediately become accustomed to associating English words with visual images.After the instrument is declared valid and has a high level of reliability, the next step is to provide pre-test and post-test to both groups. The test given is a learning achievement test in the form of an objective test in the form of multiple-choice related to the vocabulary theme of singular and plural vocabulary which is done by students of the control class and the experimental class.Hypothesis testing is done to find out whether there is a significant influence on the Rosetta Stone media through the dynamic immersion method to the learning outcomes of Grade VII students of SMP Negeri 3 Padangsidimpuan. Hypothesis testing in this study was conducted using a test analysis with analysis using the SPSS statistical program. The results of calculations from the t-test were 4.93 with Df = na + nb - 2, Df = 68, a significance level of 5%, then t-table = 1.99. So the result of the t-test is 4.93> 1.99. So, the t-test is bigger than the t-table. Based on the results, it means that there are significant differences in the post-test scores between the experimental group and the control group.Based on the decision-making basis of the independent sample t-test in this study, it can be concluded that the implementation of Rosetta Stone useful as a medium in teaching vocabulary mastery of seventh-grade students of SMPN 3 Padangsidimpuan. Keywords: vocabulary, rosetta stone, dynamic immersio

    Incorporation With Verbal Deletion In Mandailing Language

    Incorporation in the Mandailing language occurs due to changes of verb position which results in deletion of verb. The theory used to analyze this incorporation of verb deletion is one presented by Fillmore (1988) referring to Jehane’s. Meanwhile, the method used in this study is based on Labov’s. According to Labov, the data of linguistic research are obtained from text, elicitation, intuition, experiment, and observation. Von Humboldt states that the term incorporation is the unification of lexical morphemes and words. The result of this analysis indicates   that the incorporation in Mandailing occurs typologically rather than polysynthetically. The forms or types of incorporation in this language are apparently quite broad, varied, and applied clearly without changing the meaning of each incorporation. One of the incorporation forms or types results in incorporation with verb deletion. The kinds of incorporation with verb deletion based on the cases are objective, instrumental, locative, translative, and state incorporations. The incorporation process of verb deletion happens because the incorporating case changes its function. The case is verbalized by verb affix, and then the incorporation process causes changes in syntactic valence and construction
