Portfolio saliency and ministerial turnover: Dynamics in Scandinavian postwar cabinets

Drawing on the broader literature on portfolio allocation, this article argues that the saliency of individual portfolios shapes ministerial turnover. The main argument is that ministerial dismissals are less likely to occur the higher the saliency attributed to the ministerial portfolio since ministers appointed to important posts are more likely to have been through extensive screening before appointment. Importantly, it is also posited in the article that the effect of portfolio salience is conditioned by government approval ratings: when government ratings are on the decline, prime ministers are less likely to reshuffle or fire important ministers than when approval ratings are improving. To test these claims, Cox proportional hazards models are applied to a new dataset on ministerial turnover in Scandinavia during the postwar period. The results strongly support the proposition that portfolio saliency matters for ministerial survival, and that this effect is moderated by government popularity

Mode expansion for the density profile of crystal-fluid interfaces: Hard spheres as a test case
We present a technique for analyzing the full three-dimensional density
profiles of a planar crystal-fluid interface in terms of density modes. These
density modes can also be related to crystallinity order parameter profiles
which are used in coarse-grained, phase field type models of the statics and
dynamics of crystal-fluid interfaces and are an alternative to crystallinity
order parameters extracted from simulations using local crystallinity criteria.
We illustrate our results for the hard sphere system using finely-resolved,
three-dimensional density profiles from density functional theory of

Why does the Jeans Swindle work?
When measuring the mass profile of any given cosmological structure through
internal kinematics, the distant background density is always ignored. This
trick is often refereed to as the "Jeans Swindle". Without this trick a
divergent term from the background density renders the mass profile undefined,
however, this trick has no formal justification. We show that when one includes
the expansion of the Universe in the Jeans equation, a term appears which
exactly cancels the divergent term from the background. We thereby establish a

True and False Foodplants of \u3ci\u3eCallosamia Promethea\u3c/i\u3e (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) in Southern Michigan
A survey in 1980 of the associations of over 400 cocoons of Callosamia promethea Drury in vegetation along and adjacent to southern Michigan roadsides gave evidence for seven species of true larval foodplants (not including two others known in the area from other studies) and 17 species of false foodplants, the latter determined by the (1) rarity of their association with cocoons, (2) only one or two cocoons per plant, and (3) their proximity to a well known true foodplant. Three species, sassafras, black cherry, and buttonbush, are evidently the most important true foodplants in this area. Comparisons are made of the foodplants in terms of past literature, geography, and taxonomic relationships
Pendidikan Kesehatan Pengelolaan Sampah Sejak Usia Dini di SDN 015 Samarinda Ulu
Pengelolaan sampah yang baik harus melibatkan partisipasi dari masyarakat untuk itu perlu pengenalan sejak dini dalam pengelolaan sampah sehingga pada saat dewasa sudah memahami manfaat dari pengelolaan sampah secara baik dan benar. Pengelolaan sampah mempunyai maksud untuk meningkatkan kesehatan masyarakat dan kualitas lingkungan serta menjadikan sampah sebagai sumber daya. Dari sudut pandang kesehatan lingkungan, pengelolaan sampah dipandang baik jika sampah tersebut tidak menjadi media berkembang biaknya bibit penyakit serta sampah tersebut tidak menjadi medium perantara menyebarluasnya suatu penyakit. Syarat lainnya yang harus dipenuhi, yaitu tidak mencemari udara, air dan tanah, tidak menimbulkan bau (tidak mengganggu nilai estetis), tidak menimbulkan kebakaran dan yang lainnya. Dari hal tersebut maka diperlukan pemahaman yang berkelanjutan dalam pendidikan kesehatan tentang pengelolaan sampah sejak dini. Tujuan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini untuk memberikan pengetahuan dan pemahaman tentang pengelolaan sampah sejak usia dini. Kegiatan yang dilakukan adalah 1) melakukan diskusi dengan guru untuk menggali informasi mengenai pengelolaan sampah yang sudah ada apakah sudah terpisah atau belum, 2) masalah apa yang dihadapi dalam mengelola sampah. Berdasarkan hasil kegiatan yang sudah dilaksanakan maka disimpulkan beberapa hal: 1) Pengelolaan sampah dikelola oleh seorang petugas kebersihan, 2) Tempat sampah masih bercampur antara sampah organik dan sampah anorganik, 3) Siswa/siswi SDN 015 Samarinda Ulu berpotensi untuk merubah perilaku mereka untuk membuang sampah sesuai dengan tempat dan jenis sampahnya, 4) Penyuluhan dan pendampingan pada saat proses kegiatan berjalan dengan lancar dan antusiasme dari siswa siswinya sangat tinggi. 5) sudah di tempatkan tempat sampah yang terpisah
Relationship between Local Molecular Field Theory and Density Functional Theory for non-uniform liquids
The Local Molecular Field Theory (LMF) developed by Weeks and co-workers has
proved successful for treating the structure and thermodynamics of a variety of
non-uniform liquids. By reformulating LMF in terms of one-body direct
correlation functions we recast the theory in the framework of classical
Density Functional Theory (DFT). We show that the general LMF equation for the
effective reference potential phi_R follows directly from the standard
mean-field DFT treatment of attractive interatomic forces. Using an accurate
(Fundamental Measures) DFT for the non-uniform hard-sphere reference fluid we
determine phi_R for a hard-core Yukawa liquid adsorbed at a planar hard wall.
In the approach to bulk liquid-gas coexistence we find the effective potentials
exhibit rich structure that can include damped oscillations at large distances
from the wall as well as the repulsive hump near the wall required to generate
the low density 'gas' layer characteristic of complete drying. We argue that it
would be difficult to obtain the same level of detail from other (non DFT
based) implementations of LMF. LMF emphasizes the importance of making an
intelligent division of the interatomic pair potential of the full system into
a reference part and a remainder that can be treated in mean-field
approximation. We investigate different divisions for an exactly solvable one-
dimensional model where the pair potential has a hard-core plus a linear
attractive tail. Results for the structure factor and the equation of state of
the uniform fluid show that including a significant portion of the attraction
in the reference system can be much more accurate than treating the full
attractive tail in mean-field approximation. We discuss further aspects of the
relationship between LMF and DFT.Comment: 35 pages, 10 Fig
and Perelomov number coherent states: algebraic approach for general systems
We study some properties of the Perelomov number coherent states.
The Schr\"odinger's uncertainty relationship is evaluated for a position and
momentum-like operators (constructed from the Lie algebra generators) in these
number coherent states. It is shown that this relationship is minimized for the
standard coherent states. We obtain the time evolution of the number coherent
states by supposing that the Hamiltonian is proportional to the third generator
of the Lie algebra. Analogous results for the Perelomov
number coherent states are found. As examples, we compute the Perelomov
coherent states for the pseudoharmonic oscillator and the two-dimensional
isotropic harmonic oscillator
