The very fast evolution of Sakurai's object
V4334 Sgr (a.k.a. Sakurai's object) is the central star of an old planetary
nebula that underwent a very late thermal pulse a few years before its
discovery in 1996. We have been monitoring the evolution of the optical
emission line spectrum since 2001. The goal is to improve the evolutionary
models by constraining them with the temporal evolution of the central star
temperature. In addition the high resolution spectral observations obtained by
X-shooter and ALMA show the temporal evolution of the different morphological

The Real-Time Evolution of Sakurai's Star (V4334 Sgr) and other (V)LTP Objects
We report on the progress of our on-going campaign to monitor the evolution
of the VLTP objects V4334 Sgr and V605 Aql, as well as the suspected (V)LTP
object CK Vul. V4334 Sgr does not show signs of increased ionization compared
to our previous observations in 2004. We obtained the first radio detection of
V605 Aql, indicating a strong increase in radio flux since 1987. We also
present the first radio detection of CK Vul and discuss the expansion of the

A Geometric Theory of Diblock Copolymer Phases
We analyze the energetics of sphere-like micellar phases in diblock
copolymers in terms of well-studied, geometric quantities for their lattices.
We argue that the A15 lattice with Pm3n symmetry should be favored as the
blocks become more symmetric and corroborate this through a self-consistent
field theory. Because phases with columnar or bicontinuous topologies
intervene, the A15 phase, though metastable, is not an equilibrium phase of
symmetric diblocks. We investigate the phase diagram of branched diblocks and

Relativistic Hamiltonians in many-body theories
We discuss the description of a many-body nuclear system using Hamiltonians
that contain the nucleon relativistic kinetic energy and potentials with
relativistic corrections. Through the Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation, the
field theoretical problem of interacting nucleons and mesons is mapped to an
equivalent one in terms of relativistic potentials, which are then expanded at
some order in 1/m_N. The formalism is applied to the Hartree problem in nuclear
matter, showing how the results of the relativistic mean field theory can be

Sakurai's Object: characterizing the near-infrared CO ejecta between 2003 and 2007
We present observations of Sakurai's Object obtained at 1–5 μm between 2003 and 2007. By fitting a radiative transfer model to an echelle spectrum of CO fundamental absorption features around 4.7 μm, we determine the excitation conditions in the line-forming region. We find 12C/13C = 3.5+2.0−1.5, consistent with CO originating in ejecta processed by the very late thermal pulse, rather than in the pre-existing planetary nebula. We demonstrate the existence of 2.2 × 10−6≤MCO≤ 2.7 × 10−6 M⊙ of CO ejecta outside the dust, forming a high-velocity wind of 500 ± 80 km s−1. We find evidence for significant weakening of the CO band and cooling of the dust around the central star between 2003 and 2005. The gas and dust temperatures are implausibly high for stellar radiation to be the sole contributor
Relativistic Corrections to the Triton Binding Energy
The influence of relativity on the triton binding energy is investigated. The
relativistic three-dimensional version of the Bethe-Salpeter equation proposed
by Blankenbecler and Sugar (BbS) is used. Relativistic (non-separable)
one-boson-exchange potentials (constructed in the BbS framework) are employed
for the two-nucleon interaction. In a 34-channel Faddeev calculation, it is
found that relativistic effects increase the triton binding energy by about 0.2
MeV. Including charge-dependence (besides relativity), the final triton binding
energy predictions are 8.33 and 8.16 MeV for the Bonn A and B potential,

Exact 4He Spectral Function in a Semirealistic NN Potential Model
The spectral function of 4He is calculated with the Lorentz integral
transform method in a large energy and momentum range. The excitation spectrum
of the residual 3N-system is fully taken into account. The obtained spectral
function is used to calculate the quasi elastic longitudinal (e,e') response
R_l of 4He for q=300, 400, and 500 MeV/c. Comparison with the exact R_l shows a
rather sizeable disagreement except in the quasi elastic peak, where the
differences reduce to about 10% at q=500 MeV/c. It is shown as well that very
simple momentum distribution approximations for the spectral function provide

Strong-Segregation Theory of Bicontinuous Phases in Block Copolymers
We compute phase diagrams for starblock copolymers in the
strong-segregation regime as a function of volume fraction , including
bicontinuous phases related to minimal surfaces (G, D, and P surfaces) as
candidate structures. We present the details of a general method to compute
free energies in the strong segregation limit, and demonstrate that the gyroid
G phase is the most nearly stable among the bicontinuous phases considered. We
explore some effects of conformational asymmetry on the topology of the phase

Momentum and Coordinate Space Three-nucleon Potentials
In this paper we give explicit formulae in momentum and coordinate space for
the three-nucleon potentials due to and meson exchange, derived
from off-mass-shell meson-nucleon scattering amplitudes which are constrained
by the symmetries of QCD and by the experimental data. Those potentials have
already been applied to nuclear matter calculations. Here we display additional
terms which appear to be the most important for nuclear structure. The
potentials are decomposed in a way that separates the contributions of
different physical mechanisms involved in the meson-nucleon amplitudes. The
same type of decomposition is presented for the TM force: the

Individual variation in levels of haptoglobin-related protein in children from Gabon
Background: Haptoglobin related protein (Hpr) is a key component of trypanosome lytic factors (TLF), a subset of highdensity lipoproteins (HDL) that form the first line of human defence against African trypanosomes. Hpr, like haptoglobin (Hp) can bind to hemoglobin (Hb) and it is the Hpr-Hb complexes which bind to these parasites allowing uptake of TLF. This unique form of innate immunity is primate-specific. To date, there have been no population studies of plasma levels of Hpr, particularly in relation to hemolysis and a high prevalence of ahaptoglobinemia as found in malaria endemic areas. Methods and Principal Findings: We developed a specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to measure levels of plasma Hpr in Gabonese children sampled during a period of seasonal malaria transmission when acute phase responses (APR), malaria infection and associated hemolysis were prevalent. Median Hpr concentration was 0.28 mg/ml (range 0.03-1.1). This was 5-fold higher than that found in Caucasian children (0.049 mg/ml, range 0.002-0.26) with no evidence of an APR. A general linear model was used to investigate associations between Hpr levels, host polymorphisms, parasitological factors and the acute phase proteins, Hp, C-reactive protein (CRP) and albumin. Levels of Hpr were associated with Hp genotype, decreased with age and were higher in females. Hpr concentration was strongly correlated with that of Hp, but not CRP
