    Antecedents of Firm’s Performance: A Conceptual Model

    This paper has been remained as evidence from the creative industry of China where it builds a conceptual framework on antecedents of organizational performance. A systematic literature review was conducted to study the possible antecedents of the performance. It found a number of factors that affect the performance of the creative Chinese industry; the major focus was on absorptive capacity, entrepreneurial orientation and market orientation. The study provides a conceptual framework, to elaborate the combination with a significant effect on performance of the firms and it is a unique contribution to literature and practice

    ADGym: Design Choices for Deep Anomaly Detection

    Deep learning (DL) techniques have recently found success in anomaly detection (AD) across various fields such as finance, medical services, and cloud computing. However, most of the current research tends to view deep AD algorithms as a whole, without dissecting the contributions of individual design choices like loss functions and network architectures. This view tends to diminish the value of preliminary steps like data preprocessing, as more attention is given to newly designed loss functions, network architectures, and learning paradigms. In this paper, we aim to bridge this gap by asking two key questions: (i) Which design choices in deep AD methods are crucial for detecting anomalies? (ii) How can we automatically select the optimal design choices for a given AD dataset, instead of relying on generic, pre-existing solutions? To address these questions, we introduce ADGym, a platform specifically crafted for comprehensive evaluation and automatic selection of AD design elements in deep methods. Our extensive experiments reveal that relying solely on existing leading methods is not sufficient. In contrast, models developed using ADGym significantly surpass current state-of-the-art techniques.Comment: NeurIPS 2023. The first three authors contribute equally.     Unraveling the diversity of sedimentary sulfate-reducing prokaryotes (SRP) across Tibetan saline lakes using epicPCR

    Sulfate reduction is an important biogeochemical process in the ecosphere; however, the major taxa of sulfate reducers have not been fully identified. Here, we used epicPCR (Emulsion, Paired Isolation, and Concatenation PCR) technology to identify the phylogeny of sulfate-reducing prokaryotes (SRP) in sediments from Tibetan Plateau saline lakes. A total of 12,519 OTUs and 883 SRP-OTUs were detected in ten lakes by sequencing of 16S rRNA gene PCR amplicons and epicPCR products of fused 16S rRNA plus dsrB gene, respectively, with Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Bacteroidetes being the dominant phyla in both datasets. The 120 highly abundant SRP-OTUs (>1% in at least one sample) were affiliated with 17 described phyla, only 7 of which are widely recognized as SRP phyla. The majority of OTUs from both the whole microbial communities and the SRPs were not detected in more than one specific lake, suggesting high levels of endemism. The -diversity of the entire microbial community and SRP sub-community showed significant positive correlations. The pH value and mean water temperature of the month prior to sampling were the environmental determinants for the whole microbial community, while the mean water temperature and total nitrogen were the major environmental drivers for the SRP sub-community. This study revealed there are still many undocumented SRP in Tibetan saline lakes, many of which could be endemic and adapted to specific environmental conditions.Peer reviewe

    Genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 screening for drug resistance in tumors

    Genome-wide clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR associated nuclease 9 (Cas9) screening is a simple screening method for locating loci under specific conditions, and it has been utilized in tumor drug resistance research for finding potential drug resistance-associated genes. This screening strategy has significant implications for further treatment of malignancies with acquired drug resistance. In recent years, studies involving genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 screening have gradually increased. Here we review the recent application of genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 screening for drug resistance, involving mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway inhibitors, poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPi), alkylating agents, mitotic inhibitors, antimetabolites, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), and cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors (CDKI). We summarize drug resistance pathways such as the KEAP1/Nrf2 pathway MAPK pathway, and NF-κB pathway. Also, we analyze the limitations and conditions for the application of genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 screening techniques

    A comprehensive census of microbial diversity in hot springs of Tengchong, Yunnan Province China using 16S rRNA gene pyrosequencing

    The Rehai and Ruidian geothermal fields, located in Tengchong County, Yunnan Province, China, host a variety of geochemically distinct hot springs. In this study, we report a comprehensive, cultivation-independent census of microbial communities in 37 samples collected from these geothermal fields, encompassing sites ranging in temperature from 55.1 to 93.6°C, in pH from 2.5 to 9.4, and in mineralogy from silicates in Rehai to carbonates in Ruidian. Richness was low in all samples, with 21–123 species-level OTUs detected. The bacterial phylum Aquificae or archaeal phylum Crenarchaeota were dominant in Rehai samples, yet the dominant taxa within those phyla depended on temperature, pH, and geochemistry. Rehai springs with low pH (2.5–2.6), high temperature (85.1–89.1°C), and high sulfur contents favored the crenarchaeal order Sulfolobales, whereas those with low pH (2.6–4.8) and cooler temperature (55.1–64.5°C) favored the Aquificae genus Hydrogenobaculum. Rehai springs with neutral-alkaline pH (7.2–9.4) and high temperature (>80°C) with high concentrations of silica and salt ions (Na, K, and Cl) favored the Aquificae genus Hydrogenobacter and crenarchaeal orders Desulfurococcales and Thermoproteales. Desulfurococcales and Thermoproteales became predominant in springs with pH much higher than the optimum and even the maximum pH known for these orders. Ruidian water samples harbored a single Aquificae genus Hydrogenobacter, whereas microbial communities in Ruidian sediment samples were more diverse at the phylum level and distinctly different from those in Rehai and Ruidian water samples, with a higher abundance of uncultivated lineages, close relatives of the ammonia-oxidizing archaeon “Candidatus Nitrosocaldus yellowstonii”, and candidate division O1aA90 and OP1. These differences between Ruidian sediments and Rehai samples were likely caused by temperature, pH, and sediment mineralogy. The results of this study significantly expand the current understanding of the microbiology in Tengchong hot springs and provide a basis for comparison with other geothermal systems around the world

    Comparative genomics reveals adaptive evolution of Asian tapeworm in switching to a new intermediate host

    Taenia saginata, Taenia solium and Taenia asiatica (beef, pork and Asian tapeworms, respectively) are parasitic flatworms of major public health and food safety importance. Among them, T. asiatica is a newly recognized species that split from T. saginata via an intermediate host switch ∼1.14 Myr ago. Here we report the 169- and 168-Mb draft genomes of T. saginata and T. asiatica. Comparative analysis reveals that high rates of gene duplications and functional diversifications might have partially driven the divergence between T. asiatica and T. saginata. We observe accelerated evolutionary rates, adaptive evolutions in homeostasis regulation, tegument maintenance and lipid uptakes, and differential/specialized gene family expansions in T. asiatica that may favour its hepatotropism in the new intermediate host. We also identify potential targets for developing diagnostic or intervention tools against human tapeworms. These data provide new insights into the evolution of Taenia parasites, particularly the recent speciation of T. asiatica

    Microbial production of long-chain n-alkanes: Implication for interpreting sedimentary leaf wax signals

    Relative distributions as well as compound-specific carbon and hydrogen isotope ratios of long-chain C-25 to C-33 n-alkanes in sediments provide important paleoclimate and paleoenvironmental information. These compounds in aquatic sediments are generally attributed to leaf waxes produced by higher plants. However, whether microbes, such as fungi and bacteria, can make a significant contribution to sedimentary long-chain n-alkanes is uncertain, with only scattered reports in the early 1960s to 1970s that microbes can produce long-chain n-alkanes. Given the rapidly expanding importance of leaf waxes in paleoclimate and paleoenvironmental studies, the impact of microbial contribution to long-chain n-alkanes in sediments must be fully addressed. In this study, we performed laboratory incubation of peat-land soils under both anaerobic and aerobic conditions in the absence of light with deuterium-enriched water over 1.5 years and analyzed compound-specific hydrogen isotopic ratios of n-alkanes. Under aerobic conditions, we find n-alkanes of different chain length display variable degrees of hydrogen isotopic enrichments, with short-chain (C-18-C-21) n-alkanes showing the greatest enrichment, followed by long-chain "leaf wax" (C-27-C-31) n-alkanes, and minimal or no enrichment for mid-chain (C-22-C-25) n-alkanes. In contrast, only the shorter chain (C-18 and C-19) n-alkanes display appreciable isotopic enrichment under anaerobic conditions. The degrees of isotopic enrichment for individual n-alkanes allow for a quantitative assessment of microbial contributions to n-alkanes. Overall our results show the microbial contribution to long-chain n-alkanes can reach up to 0.1% per year in aerobic conditions. For shorter chain n-alkanes, up to 2.5% per year could be produced by microbes in aerobic and anaerobic conditions respectively. Our results indicate that prolonged exposure to aerobic conditions can lead to substantial accumulation of microbially derived long-chain n-alkanes in sediments while original n-alkanes of leaf wax origin are degraded; hence caution must be exercised when interpreting sedimentary records of long-chain n-alkanes, including chain length distributions and isotopic ratios.     This document presents a method of on-line fault diagnosis for iron core of induction motor stator based on adaptive observer. Due to the equivalent resistance is directly affected by the stator core fault, while the iron loss is considered in the series iron loss model of the induction motor, so we can determine the core fault state by identifying equivalent iron consumption resistance. In this paper, Matlab LMI toolbox is employed to calculate the feedback gain matrix of adaptive observer, which can makes up the deficiency of other method such as pole assignment. Finally, the experimental results confirm the validity of the proposed approach

    Construction and reform of art design teaching mode under the background of the integration of non-linear equations and the internet

    In the continuous application and development of network technology, the reform in Internet information will inevitably bring about major changes in college education and teaching. Based on this background, the paper puts forward the influence of ‘Internet+’ on art design education. At the same time, the article explores the influence factors of the Internet on art design teaching based on the non-linear equation model. We use the parameterised cubic clipping algorithm to find the roots of non-polynomial equations. Through performance analysis and comparison, it is found that the root-finding algorithm proposed by us has better parallelism and lower-storage requirements. This algorithm has certain advantages in solving the weight of the factors that influence the Internet to art design teaching
