Could a Growth Spurt Cause Linear Focal Elastosis Like Striae Distensae?
Linear focal elastosis (LFE) is characterized by several asymptomatic, yellow, palpable, irregularly indurated, striae-like lines extending horizontally across the middle and lower back. A focal increase in elastic fibers is a hallmark of the disease as seen from biopsy specimens. The pathogenesis of LFE is unclear, as is the association between LFE and striae distensae (SD). However, the prevailing opinion is that LFE represents an excessive regenerative process of elastic fibers and is analogous to keloidal repair of SD. Although the timing of onset of LFE and SD was not synchronous in our patient, the triggering factor was the same, which was the growth spurt. This case is supporting the putative association between LFE and SD
Magnetic Behaviour of Disordered Ising Ferrimagnet in High Magnetic Field
The magnetic behaviour of a disordered ferrimagnetic system Ap B1-p where
both A and B represent the magnetic atoms with respective spin SA = 1/2 and SB
= 1 in presence of high magnetic field is treated theoretically.Assuming the
magnetic interaction can be described through Ising Hamiltonian the approximate
free energy is obtained using the cluster-variational method. The field
dependence of the magnetization is then obtained for different concentration p
and exchange parameters (JAA, JBB and JAB). For p = 0.5,the magnetization M in
ferrimagnetic state and in absence of compensation temperature Tcm vanishes at
TC.Field induced reversal of M is found at switching temperature TS (<TC) which
is decreasing function of field H.A maximum in M is found above TS and the
maximum value of M increases with field. In ferrimagnetic state M increases
almost linearly at high H region. For system with large ferromagnetic JAA,the
compensation temperature Tcm is increasing function of JBB and JAB .The
decrease in compensation temperature is linear at small field and tends to
saturate at higher field. The sharpness of the magnetization reversal is
increased with H.For fully compensated state of the system with p = 2/3,the
magnetization in presence of H also exhibits switching behaviour at TS .For p =
0.2 the field induced reversal of magnetization occurs more sharply. The
orientational switching of the sublattice magnetization MA and MB with field
increases the Zeeman energy and is the origin of magnetization reversal at TsComment: 12 pages,9 Figure
A comparative study of the economies of the Yemen Arab Republic and the People\u27s Democratic Republic of Yemen (1970-1988)
On May 22, 1990, the Yemen Arab Republic (YAR) and the People\u27s Democratic Republic of Yemen (PDRY) were reunited under one constitution and internationally recognized as the Republic of Yemen (ROY). The reunification marked a new era of hope for achieving, among other socioeconomic and political gains, rapid economic growth and development which might lead to a rising standard of living for all people of Yemen. Although both the YAR and the PDRY had pursued deliberate development policies with measurable success since the early 1970s, they continued to be underdeveloped economies characterized by low per-capita income, low average productivity, inefficient use of resources and low levels of investment in modern industry. But the modernization of unified Yemen will be built upon its natural resources, the economic progress that the country has already attained over the past two decades and the efficiency of the new country\u27s economic system in promoting growth and development. Four major results are obtained in this study. First, the two countries have achieved considerable economic progress since the early 1970s. Second, the Yemen Arab Republic\u27s economic achievements outweigh those of PDRY during this period. Third, the economic structure, strategies and policies of YAR were more conducive to economic development than of the People\u27s Democratic Republic of Yemen. And, finally, the study proposes a development strategy for the Republic of Yemen based on export-oriented industrialization with some emphasis on agricultural development
