Effect of Community Education on Community Knowledge of Premature Rupture of Membranes

    Get PDF
Premature rupture of membranes (PROM) is still a health problem with a reasonably high incidence among pregnant women in Indonesia. The PROM is defined as the rupture of membranes before signs of labor are observed. Better knowledge on the causes, signs, symptoms, and complications of PROM is believed to help in reducing maternal and infant mortality caused by PROM. This was a cross-sectional, analytic observational study conducted in Cipacing Village, Sumedang, West Java, Indonesia during the period of June-July 2022. . Community education was held to give better knowledge about PROM for women with an obstetric and gynecology specialist and fetomaternal consultant as the resource person. Total sampling was obtained from 62 women. Data were collection using pre-test and post-tests before and after the education session. The mean pre-test score was 6.48, while the mean post-test score was 7.96. A dependent T-test was used to determine the relationship between scores before and after the community education with a p-value of 0.0001. There was a significant increase in knowledge about PROM after the education session compared to before the session. This means community education is effective and impactful to increase the level of knowledge about PROM among women

Anemia and iron homeostasis in a cohort of HIV-infected patients in Indonesia

Contains fulltext : 97632.pdf (publisher's version ) (Open Access)BACKGROUND: Anemia is a common clinical finding in HIV-infected patients and iron deficiency or redistribution may contribute to the development of low hemoglobin levels. Iron overload is associated with a poor prognosis in HIV and Hepatitis C virus infections. Iron redistribution may be caused by inflammation but possibly also by hepatitis C co-infection. We examined the prevalence of anemia and its relation to mortality in a cohort of HIV patients in a setting where injecting drug use (IDU) is a main mode of HIV transmission, and measured serum ferritin and sTfR, in relation to anemia, inflammation, stage of HIV disease, ART and HCV infection. METHODS: Patient characteristics, ART history and iron parameters were recorded from adult HIV patients presenting between September 2007 and August 2009 in the referral hospital for West Java, Indonesia. Kaplan-Meier estimates and Cox's regression were used to assess factors affecting survival. Logistic regression was used to identity parameters associated with high ferritin concentrations. RESULTS: Anemia was found in 49.6% of 611 ART-naive patients, with mild (Hb 10.5 -12.99 g/dL for men; and 10.5-11.99 g/dL for women) anemia in 62.0%, and moderate to severe anemia (Hb < 10.5 g/dL) in 38.0%. Anemia remained an independent factor associated with death, also after adjustment for CD4 count and ART (p = 0.008). Seroprevalence of HCV did not differ in patients with (56.9%) or without anemia (59.6%). Serum ferritin concentrations were elevated, especially in patients with anemia (p = 0.07) and/or low CD4 counts (p < 0.001), and were not related to hsCRP or HCV infection. Soluble TfR concentrations were low and not related to Hb, CD4, hsCRP or ART. CONCLUSION: HIV-associated anemia is common among HIV-infected patients in Indonesia and strongly related to mortality. High ferritin with low sTfR levels suggest that iron redistribution and low erythropoietic activity, rather than iron deficiency, contribute to anemia. Serum ferritin and sTfR should be used cautiously to assess iron status in patients with advanced HIV infection

This study aims to determine the literacy level of the assessment of prospective teachers at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Unkhair. Respondents in this study were 3rd, 5th, and 7th semester students spread over 10 FKIP study programs, respondents were asked to fill out an assessment literacy test instrument which was developed based on the Assessment Literacy Standard. There are seven assessment literacy standards that can be used to measure the assessment literacy of prospective teachers, including: choosing assessment methods, developing assessment methods, managing and interpreting assessment results, using assessment results, developing assessment procedures, communicating assessment results and recognizing unethical assessment methods, illegal, and inappropriate. The instrument was given to respondents through the googleform application. The collected data was then analyzed with descriptive statistics. The results of this research analysis can reveal the level of literacy skills in the assessment of prospective teachers in 10 study programs as follows: Indonesian Language and Literature Education 73% high category, English Language Education 72% high category, Pancasila and Citizenship education 74% high category, Geography Education 75% category High category, Chemistry Education 77% high category, Physics Education 78% high category, Biology Education 78% high category, Early Childhood Education 76% high category and Elementary School Teacher Education 78% high category. Based on the results of the data analysis, it can be concluded that the average assessment literacy ability for prospective teachers in FKIP is in the high category, this happens because the content of the learning evaluation courses in each FKIP study program has given a good understanding to prospective teacher students as a provision for later becoming teachers who are professional in assessing and evaluating students in schools
