Comparison of Standard Triple Therapy Regimen with Sequential Therapy Regimen Containing Levofloxacin Used for The Eradication of Helicobacter Pylori in Patients with Gastrointestinal Infection Caused by Helicobacter Pylori
Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare
standard triple therapy regimen with sequential therapy
regimen containing levofloxacin used for the
eradication of H. pylori in patients with gastrointestinal
infection caused by H. pylori.
Methods: This single blind clinical trial study was
conducted on 96 patients with positive Rapid Urease
Test (RUT) who were referred to the Endoscopy
center of Hajar Hospital in Shahrekord city, located
in southwest of Iran. The patients were randomly assigned
into two treatment groups: sequential therapy
regimen and triple therapy regimen. The patients in
the first group received sequential therapy regimen
including omeprazole, amoxicillin, levofloxacin, and
tinidazole; the second group of patients received
a triple therapy regimen consisting of omeprazole,
amoxicillin, and clarithromycin. Four weeks after the
end of the treatment, using H. pylori Stool Antigen
(HpSA), a test was performed to prove the eradication
of H. pylori. The influences of patients’ age, gender
and eradication level were also investigated.
Results: There were significant differences between
the two groups in terms of age and education. While
H. pylori eradication rate was 67.3% in the sequential
therapy regimen, it was 66% in standard triple
therapy regimen. In addition, among patients receiving
triple therapy regimen, being aged older than 40
years had a significant relationship with eradication.
Moreover, in patients receiving sequential therapy
regimen, education level had a significant relationship
with eradication.
Conclusion: There was no statistically significant difference
between the two therapy groups in terms
of H. pylori eradication rate. However, given the
low rates of H. pylori eradication in both sequential
and triple therapy regimens observed in the present
study, it seems that it is necessary to conduct further
research on the bacterial resistance to the prescribed
antibiotic

Abdominal volume index: A predictive measure in relationship between depression/anxiety and obesity
Background: Obesity is a risk factor for mood disorder (such as depression and anxiety). We aimed to assess application of A Body Shape Index (ABSI) and abdominal volume index (AVI), as new indices of obesity to evaluate the relationship between obesity and depression/anxiety. Methods: This cross sectional study was conducted on 307 overweight and obese women (249 females, 58 males) 20-60 years in Iran in 2017-2018. The anthropometric measures including weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, body fat and derived values of body mass index, waisthip ratio, AVI and ABSI were evaluated. HADS questionnaire for depression and anxiety completed. Results: Prevalence of depression was 36.1 in women; men 24.1; overweight 28.1; obese 36.5 and central obesity 33.7. Anxiety was apparent in 27.1 of overweight 30.3 obese and 29.6 central obesity. People with depression and anxiety had higher WC, BF and AVI. ABSI had no significant correlation with depression/anxiety. The odds of depression (1.06; 95 CI, 1.02-1.12) and anxiety (1.06; 95 CI, 1.01-1.11) were elevated with increase AVI. Conclusion: Our results suggested that AVI as an indirect measure of abdominal obesity along with WC and BF could be useful in predicting the relationship between obesity and depression/anxiety. © 2020 Hadi S et al. Diversity, composition and distribution of aquatic insects in Liwagu water catchment, Tambunan, Sabah
A study was carried out from 10-14 November 2011 to determine the diversity, composition and distribution of aquatic insects in the streams of Kisolong, Molongis and Hatob waterfalls. Six stations were selected in each stream with one station located at the upper reach and another situated at the lower reach. A 100 metre reach of the stream was selected for each sampling site. Surber net measuring 500 micron mesh size rectangular quadrat of 30 cm X 30 cm (0.09 m2) was used. A total of 2163 individuals representing 61 families from eight orders were successfully recorded. Heptageniidae (Ephemeroptera), Perlidae and Peltoperlidae (Plecoptera) and Hydropsychidae (Trichoptera) were the most abundant families collected in each stream. Based on biotic indices, all streams were undisturbed and had good water quality
