    Objective To explore any differences in efficacy and safety outcomes between European (EU) (n = 684) and North American (NA) (n = 395) patients in the AFFIRM trial (NCT00974311).Patients and Methods Phase III, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multinational AFFIRM trial in men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) after docetaxel. Participants were randomly assigned in a 2:1 ratio to receive oral enzalutamide 160 mg/day or placebo. The primary end point was overall survival (OS) in a post hoc analysis.Results Enzalutamide significantly improved OS compared with placebo in both EU and NA patients. The median OS in EU patients was longer than NA patients in both treatment groups. However, the relative treatment effect, expressed as hazard ratio and 95% confidence interval, was similar in both regions: 0.64 (0.50, 0.82) for EU and 0.63 (0.47, 0.83) for NA. Significant improvements in other end points further confirmed the benefit of enzalutamide over placebo in patients from both regions. The tolerability profile of enzalutamide was comparable between EU and NA patients, with fatigue and nausea the most common adverse events. Four EU patients (4/461 enzalutamide-treated, 0.87%) and one NA patient (1/263 enzalutamide-treated, 0.38%) had seizures. The difference in median OS was related in part to the timing of development of mCRPC and baseline demographics on study entry.Conclusion This post hoc exploratory analysis of the AFFIRM trial showed a consistent OS benefit for enzalutamide in men with mCRPC who had previously progressed on docetaxel in both NA- and EU-treated patients, although the median OS was higher in EU relative to NA patients. Efficacy benefits were consistent across end points, with a comparable safety profile in both regions. © 2014 The Authors. The B0B^0-Bˉ0\bar B^0 oscillation frequency has been measured with a sample of 23 million \B\bar B pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. In this sample, we select events in which both B mesons decay semileptonically and use the charge of the leptons to identify the flavor of each B meson. A simultaneous fit to the decay time difference distributions for opposite- and same-sign dilepton events gives Δmd=0.493±0.012(stat)±0.009(syst)\Delta m_d = 0.493 \pm 0.012{(stat)}\pm 0.009{(syst)} ps1^{-1}.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure, submitted to Physical Review Letter

    Measurement of the CP-Violating Asymmetry Amplitude sin2β\beta

    We present results on time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B decays to several CP eigenstates. The measurements use a data sample of about 88 million Y(4S) --> B Bbar decays collected between 1999 and 2002 with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We study events in which one neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in a final state containing a charmonium meson and the other B meson is determined to be either a B0 or B0bar from its decay products. The amplitude of the CP-violating asymmetry, which in the Standard Model is proportional to sin2beta, is derived from the decay-time distributions in such events. We measure sin2beta = 0.741 +/- 0.067 (stat) +/- 0.033 (syst) and |lambda| = 0.948 +/- 0.051 (stat) +/- 0.017 (syst). The magnitude of lambda is consistent with unity, in agreement with the Standard Model expectation of no direct CP violation in these modes

    Penguin Mediated B Decays at BABAR

    No full text
    We report on preliminary results of searches for penguin mediated B decays based on 20.7 fb^{-1} of data collected at the Y(4S) peak with the BABAR detector at PEP-II. The following branching fractions have been measured: BR(B+ --> phi K+) = (7.7^{+1.6}_{-1.4} +- 0.8)*10^{-6}, BR(B0 --> phi K0) = (8.1^{+3.1}_{-2.5} +- 0.8)*10^{-6}, BR(B+ --> phi K*+) = (9.7^{+4.2}_{-3.4} +- 1.7)*10^{-6}, BR(B0 --> phi K*0) = (8.7^{+2.5}_{-2.1} +- 1.1)*10^{-6}, BR(B+--> omega pi+) = (6.6^{+2.1}_{-1.8} +- 0.7)*10^{-6}, BR(B --> eta K^*0) = (19.8^{+6.5}_{-5.6} +-1.7)*10^{-6}, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. For several other modes we report upper limits on their branching fractions; for example for the following flavor-changing neutral current decays, BR(B--> K l+ l-) 0.6*10^{-6}, BR(B--> K* l+ l-) 2.5*10^{-6}, at 90% Confidence Level (C.L.)

    Measurement of B0Bˉ0B^0-\bar B^0 flavor oscillations in hadronic B0B^0 Decays

    We have studied the B^+/- --> J/psi pi^+/- and B^+/- --> J/psi K^+/- decays using a 20.7 fb-1 data set collected with the BABAR detector. We observe a signal of 51+/-10 B^+/- --> J/psi pi^+/- events and determine the ratio BF(B^+/- --> J/psi pi^+/-)/BF(B^+/- --> J/psi K^+/-) to be [3.91 +/- 0.78 (stat.) +/- 0.19 (syst.)]%. The CP-violating charge asymmetries for the B^+/- --> J/psi pi^+/- and B^+/- --> J/psi K^+/- decays are determined to be A_pi = 0.01 +/- 0.22 (stat.) +/- 0.01 (syst.) and A_K = 0.003 +/- 0.030 (stat.) +/- 0.004 (syst.)

    Search for the rare decays BKl+lB \to Kl^+l^- and BKl+lB \to K^*l^+l^-

    We present results from a search for the flavor-changing neutral current decays BK+B\to K\ell^+\ell^- and BK+B\to K^*\ell^+\ell^-, where +\ell^+\ell^- is either an e+ee^+e^- or μ+μ\mu^+\mu^- pair. The data sample comprises 22.7×10622.7\times 10^6 Υ(4S)BBˉ\Upsilon(4S)\to B\bar B decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II BB Factory. We obtain the 90% C.L. upper limits B(BK+)<0.50×106{\mathcal B}(B\to K\ell^+\ell^-)< 0.50\times 10^{-6} and B(BK+)<2.9×106{\mathcal B}(B\to K^*\ell^+\ell^-)<2.9\times 10^{-6}, close to Standard Model predictions for these branching fractions. We have also obtained limits on the lepton-family-violating decays BKe±μB\to Ke^{\pm}\mu^{\mp} and BKe±μB\to K^{*}e^{\pm}\mu^{\mp}

    Measurements of the mass and width of the ηc\eta_c meson and of an ηc(2S)\eta_c(2S) candidate

    No full text
    The mass and total width of the eta_c meson have been measured in two-photon interactions at the SLAC asymmetric B-Factory with the BABAR detector. With a sample of approximately 2500 reconstructed eta_c -> Ks K pi decays in 88 fb-1 of data, the measured eta_c mass and width are respectively 2982.5 +- 1.1 (stat) +- 0.9 (syst) MeV/c2 and 34.3 +- 2.3 (stat) +- 0.9 (syst) MeV/c2. Using the same decay mode, a second resonance with 112 +- 24 events is observed with a mass of 3630.8 +- 3.4 (stat) +- 1.0 (syst) MeV/c2 and width of 17.0 +- 8.3 (stat) +- 2.5 (syst) MeV/c2. This observation is consistent with expectations for the eta_c(2S) state

    Search for the radiative decays BργB\to\rho\gamma and BωγB\to\omega\gamma

    No full text
    A search for the exclusive radiative decays B --> rho(770) gamma and B0 --> omega(782) gamma is performed on a sample of about 84\times 10^{6} B\bar B events collected by the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- storage ring. No significant signal is seen in any of the channels. We set upper limits on the branching fractions of BR(B^0 -> rho^0 gamma) rho^+ gamma) omega gamma) rho gamma) = Gamma(B+ --> rho+ gamma) =2\times\Gamma(B0 --> rho0 gamma), we find the combined limit BR(B --> rho gamma) rho gamma)/\BR(B --> K* gamma) < 0.047 at 90% C.L
