The Financial Crisis, Labor Market Transitions and Earnings: A Gendered Panel Data Analysis for Serbia

While results are starting to emerge, not much is known yet about the dynamics of the labor markets of the former Eastern economies, especially in the context of the current Financial Crisis. Arguably, this is mainly due to paucity of (panel) data. By examining labor market transitions, earnings levels, and earnings growth and their correlates using a recent panel data set for Serbia, this paper combines both of these issues. Estimation of gross transition probabilities reveals that females are disadvantaged in the Serbian labor market in terms of moving out of the two undesirable states, unemployment and economic inactivity, relative to males during the first year of the financial crisis – though males are harder hit than females in terms of the levels of unemployment. In terms of earnings, the picture is reversed, with females being worse off in terms of the levels of earnings, while they have experienced somewhat smaller earnings decreases than males (though, owing to the gender earnings gap, from a much lower base). Multinomial logit estimations of employment, unemployment, and inactivity transitions and OLS regressions of earnings and earnings growth reveal substantial gender differences related to individual, job, and firm characteristics. The overall results therefore hint at both males and females being hit in terms of employment and earnings, though in different ways. Finally, the paper discusses policy implications and provides suggestions for further research.financial crisis, gender, labor market flows, transition probabilities, earnings growth, panel data, Serbia

This study provides an update of the polarimetric tools currently used for optimal extraction of information from polarimetric SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar), INSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) and PALSAR (Phase Array L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar) imagery. The fundamentals of polarimetric theory are discussed in the context of synthetic aperture radar (SAR). Polarimetric SAR calibration, which is important for the extraction of subject information, is reviewed. Extraction of information using the received scattered wave is considered. Some schemes for ionospheric correction to synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and the wave interferometry (PolInSAR) are proposed. Temporal and spatial variations of the electronic density in the upper atmosphere affect radar pulse propagation and, thereby, result in distortion of the image. Due to distortions of focus, polarimetry and interferometry, the Total Electron Content (TEC) has been estimated by applying the Appleton-Hartree equation. We propose a combined estimator that reliably estimates of TEC differentials. We also discuss the effect of the vertical structure of the ionosphere from the interferometric phase and outline important avenues for future research.Fil: Rios, Victor Hugo. The aim of this work is to evaluate the potential of implantation of Dicksonia sellowiana population from different divisions of tips and diverse shading conditions. The experiment was set at the Experimental Farm of Centro of Ciências Agroveterinárias of Santa Catarina University (FECAV/UDESC), located in Lages, in the state of Santa Catarina. The evaluation was realized twelve months after the implantation, on November 17th¸ 2014. The variants evaluated were: survivor, total number of fronds, number of fronds, number of croziers, and number of dry fronds. The analysis of variance was realized, and the test SNK (α=0,05) was used for tests of mean separation. Among the treatments evaluated the entire tip one, combined both the shading treatment as sun, has showed to be the most efficient as to the development of the individuals of D. sellowiana, suggesting that these environments can be indicated as areas that favor the survivor of individuals of D. sellowiana

Syntheses related to some naturally occurring naphthopyranquinones

Bibliography: pages 248-257.The naphtho[2,3-c]pyran ring system occurs not infrequently in Nature as derivatives of the 5,10-quinone. Examples include the eleutherins, the nanaomycins and the protoaphins some of which have been shown to possess antibiotic activity. The synthesis of these natural products requires appropriate regiospecific aromatic oxygenation of 2- acetylnaphthoquinone. Syntheses of 3-acetyl-5-methoxy-1, 4- naphthoquinone and the corresponding 5,7-dimethoxy analogue are described and the use of these in the syntheses of several naturally occurring pyranquinones or their derivatives, has been investigated. In the course of this work, an unusual Fries rearrangement and a novel baseinduced cyclisation were discovered - the latter affording several naphtho[2,3-c]pyrans in high yield. Previous routes to (±)-isoeleutherin and (±)-deoxyquinone A dimethyl ether have been recorded, but they give rise to a mixture of eleutherin and isoeleutherin in the first case, and a mixture of deoxyquinone A dimethyl ether and its cisdimethyl isomer. The synthetic routes to isoeleutherin and deoxyquinone A dimethyl ether developed during this investigation are highly stereoselective. The formation of the dimethyl ethers of quinones A and A', which is also highly stereoselective represents the first reported synthesis of the degradation products of the aphid pigments, protoaphin-fb and protoaphin-s1. The synthesis of 7-methoxyeleutherin is also described. The reaction of trifluoroacetic anhydride with various naphthalene derivatives is described and the potential of some of these acylated naphthalenes to be employed in the syntheses of naphtho[2, 3-c]pyrans and naturally occurring quinones has been investigated
