This is the author accepted manuscript. The final version is available from Springer Publishing Company via the DOI in this recordPurpose: The aim of this study was to validate a Persian version of the Cardiac Depression Scale (CDS) in Iranian patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI). This was a methodological study. Methods: A demographic survey and the CDS were used for data collection. The CDS was forward translated from English into Persian and back translated to English. Validity was assessed using face, content and construct validity. Results: The construct validity of the scale showed two factors with eigenvalues greater than one. The Cronbach’s alpha, Theta, McDonald, and construct reliability were greater than .70. Convergent and discriminant validity of the constructs were fulfilled. Conclusions: Given the importance of mental health in risk prevention in AMI patients, the Persian CDS is a useful screening tool for detection of depression in this patient cohort

    Russel-Silver syndrome

Russel-Silver syndrome is a pattern of malformations whose most characteristic features are intrauterine and postnatal growth retardation, a characteristic facial appearance and limb asymmetry. We report a 9-month-old male born at 37 weeks' gestation. Family history, pregnancy and delivery revealed no significant anomalies. The infant had no intrauterine growth retardation (birth weight and height ranging between the 25 th and 50 th percentile). The infant's head circumference was disproportionately large for the small facial mass. Clinical findings included a small triangular face with frontal bossing, blue sclerae, thin lips with down-turned corners, retromicrognathia, clinodactyly of the fifth finger in both hands and limb asymmetry with undergrowth of the right leg and the left arm. The patient presented postnatal growth deficiency with weight and height 5th percentile; his head circumference grew normally along the 90 th percentile. Psychomotor development was appropriate for his age (9 months) according to the Sheridan Scale. On the basis of this clinical evidence we diagnosed Russel-Silver syndrome, attributing particular relevance to the normal intrauterine growth and the crossed asymmetry of the limbs

Saliva Neurofilament Light Chain Is Not a Diagnostic Biomarker for Neurodegeneration in a Mixed Memory Clinic Population

    Get PDF
Neurodegeneration and axonal injury result in an increasing release of neurofilament light chain (NfL) into bodily fluids, including cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood. Numerous studies have shown that NfL levels in CSF and blood are increased in neurodegenerative disorders and monitor neurodegeneration. Saliva is an easily accessible biofluid that could be utilized as a biofluid measurement of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) biomarkers. In this study, for the first time, salivary NfL was measured and compared to plasma NfL in a consecutive cohort of patients referred to cognitive assessments. In two mixed memory clinic cohorts, saliva samples were taken from 152 patients, AD (n = 49), mild cognitive impairment (MCI) (n = 47), non-AD (n = 56), and also 17 healthy controls. In addition, 135 also had a matching plasma sample. All saliva and plasma samples were analyzed for NfL, and the association between saliva and plasma NfL and CSF levels of total tau (t-tau), phosphorylated tau (p-tau), and beta amyloid 1–42 (Ab42) were investigated. In total, 162/169 had quantifiable levels of salivary NfL by single molecule array (Simoa). No statistically significant differences were found in salivary NfL concentration across the diagnostic groups, but as expected, significant increases were found for plasma NfL in dementia cases (P < 0.0001). There was no association between saliva and plasma NfL levels. Furthermore, saliva NfL did not correlate with CSF Ab42, p-tau, or tau concentrations. In conclusion, NfL is detectable in saliva but does not reflect neurodegeneration in the brain

Comparative study on the diversity performance between different microstrip antenna arrays

Institution of Engineering and Technology. All rights reserved. In this paper, a unique systematic comparative study between different microstrip antennas array types is presented. The study includes a comparison based on the mutual coupling (S 21 ) and the envelope correlation coefficient between four different antennas array types: (a) PIFA antenna, (b) patch antenna, (c) monopole antenna, (d) slot antenna. All these different microstrip antennas have been designed and printed on a thin 1.6 mm FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant (ѓ r = 4.4), suitable for wireless PCS applications (1.9 GHz). Numerical simulations are carried out using HFSS ver 17.0 software. The mutual coupling and envelope correlation coefficient between these different microstrip antennas are studied for various antenna separations. Also, another brief comparison is presented which based on the obtained results particularly in inputs return and radiation characteristics loss at fixed antenna separation, by determining the primarily associated parameters such as the bandwidth, gain, directivity, radiation efficiency. However; it is found that separation between multiple antenna elements is the most critical and crucial parameter affecting on the antenna diversity performance such as both the mutual coupling and the envelope correlation coefficient (primarily it will decrease linearly with the distance increment). This comparative study would be very helpful for RF design engineers to select suitable microstrip antenna type while designing antenna arrays at frequency 1.9 GHz for wireless PCS applications

Patterns of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy among a multiracial population in a Malaysian hospital

Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) is a retinal disorder characterized by aneurismal polypoidal lesions in choroidal vasculature. PCV appears to preferentially affect pigmented individuals and is considerably high among Asians. Most reports on patterns of PCV around Asia are based on a homogenous race (e.g. Chinese, Japanese) and very few descriptions from a multiracial population like those seen in Malaysia. The present study aimed to describe the demographic features, clinical and investigative characteristics of PCV in a multiracial group at Universiti Kebangsaaan Malaysia Medical Centre (UKMMC). Ninety one eyes of 86 PCV patients, comprising of Chinese (65.1%), Malays (31.4%), Indians (2.3%) and Eurasian (1.2%) were retrospectively reviewed. All underwent complete ophthalmic examination and investigations. Mean patient age was 70.4 years with a male preponderance (59.3%), and mostly unilateral presentation (94.1%). The logMAR mean presenting visual acuity was 0.78 ± 0.64. Polypoidal vascular lesions were located generally within the macula area (86.8%), manifesting mainly as submacular hemorrhage (59.3%). Interestingly a number of eyes (43.9%) had associated drusen. Optical coherence tomography largely demonstrated exudative changes (75.9%) and almost all patients (97.7%) had loss of external limiting membrane (ELM) and IS/OS interface. On indocyanine green angiography, majority of eyes had multiple polyps (82.4%) with ‘cluster’ (58.2%) being the commonest configuration. In conclusion, although the patterns of PCV in UKMMC were mainly similar to other Asian patients, a number of our patients had associated drusen. This indicates that PCV in our population could be a variant of neovascular age related macular degeneration and not solely idiopathic in nature

The Noncommutative Harmonic Oscillator based in Simplectic Representation of Galilei Group

In this work we study symplectic unitary representations for the Galilei group. As a consequence the Schr\"odinger equation is derived in phase space. The formalism is based on the non-commutative structure of the star-product, and using the group theory approach as a guide a physical consistent theory in phase space is constructed. The state is described by a quasi-probability amplitude that is in association with the Wigner function. The 3D harmonic oscillator and the noncommutative oscillator are studied in phase space as an application, and the Wigner function associated to both cases are determined.Comment: 7 pages,no figure
