    Study on relationship between microsatellite polymorphism and producing ability on litter size trait of Hu sheep in China

    Four microsatellite loci (OarAE101, BM1329, BM143 and OarHH55) linked to FecB gene on chromosome 6 and one microsatellite locus (OarHH55) on chromosome 4 were selected to study their correlation with litter size of Hu sheep breed. The results showed that the average polymorphism information content (PIC), heterozygosity (He) and effective allele number (Ne) were 0.7214, 0.7558 and 4.4094, respectively, and all 5 microsatellite loci reached high polymorphism (PIC > 0.5), and the five microsatellite loci can be used for genetic diversity evaluation in Hu sheep breed. The result of variance analysis showed that there were extreme significant differences among the different genotypes for the producing ability of litter size in OarAE101 locus and BM143 locus (P < 0.01), and OarHH35 locus (0.01 < P < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference among the different genotypes for the producing ability of litter size in BM1329 and OarHH55 loci (P > 0.05). Choosing by combining producing ability and special gene (gene type) will play an great role in improving selecting accuracy and breeding progress, and it is a wonderful and new analyzed thought in repeatable characters with low heritability which is affected by measuring frequencies. And this study will have an important role in MAS (marker-assistant selection) and molecular breeding in Hu sheep in future.Keywords: Hu sheep, microsatellite markers, litter size trait, producing ability of ewe

    Recurrent acute heart failure caused by sliding hiatus hernia

    The case is reported of a 75 year old woman who presented with recurrent nocturnal episodes of acute pulmonary oedema. The cause was uncertain as she had normal cardiothoracic ratio on chest radiography and normal left ventricular systolic and diastolic function by transthoracic echocardiogram. Another transthoracic echocardiogram was repeated when she was recumbent for an hour and had a full stomach. It showed a striking finding of severe left atrial compression by an external structure. Computed tomography of the thorax showed an intrathoracic mass behind the left atrium causing external compression of the left atrium suggestive of a sliding hiatus hernia. Cardiac catheterisation confirmed the diagnosis by showing a pronounced rise of pulmonary capillary wedge pressure in the recumbent position compared with the sitting up position.published_or_final_versio

    Ocean temperature and salinity components of the Madden-Julian oscillation observed by Argo floats

    New diagnostics of the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) cycle in ocean temperature and, for the first time, salinity are presented. The MJO composites are based on 4 years of gridded Argo float data from 2003 to 2006, and extend from the surface to 1,400 m depth in the tropical Indian and Pacific Oceans. The MJO surface salinity anomalies are consistent with precipitation minus evaporation fluxes in the Indian Ocean, and with anomalous zonal advection in the Pacific. The Argo sea surface temperature and thermocline depth anomalies are consistent with previous studies using other data sets. The near-surface density changes due to salinity are comparable to, and partially offset, those due to temperature, emphasising the importance of including salinity as well as temperature changes in mixed-layer modelling of tropical intraseasonal processes. The MJO-forced equatorial Kelvin wave that propagates along the thermocline in the Pacific extends down into the deep ocean, to at least 1,400 m. Coherent, statistically significant, MJO temperature and salinity anomalies are also present in the deep Indian Ocean

    Establishing dynamic impact function for house pricing based on surrounding multi-attributes: Evidence from Taipei City

    [[abstract]]The objective of the research is aimed for a solution that is to establish the dynamic impact function of surrounding multi-attribute for house pricing. It is also able to measure the ripple effect and allows the hedonic parameter estimates to vary from point-to-point. A comprehensive literature review is carried out to obtain an adequate theoretical basis for the corresponding hypothesis and concepts. The proposed dynamic impact function for multi- attributes is then constructed based on the characteristics of surrounding facilities. Adopting the convenience sampling criteria of 95% confidence level on the data sampling and 10% limit of error in a 5−95% proportion, we collect the empirical data of 39 yearly house sales in the investigated urban areas of Taipei city focusing on housing prices and then utilize them for evaluating and adjusting the function. The actual house price and that of proposed function affected by Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations are analysed, resulting in the correlation coefficient at 0.946 (single attribute) and 0.944 (multi-attribute), respectively.     A new CYP21A1P/CYP21A2 chimeric gene identified in an Italian woman suffering from classical congenital adrenal hyperplasia form

    Background: More than 90% of Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) cases are associated with mutations in the 21-hydroxylase gene (CYP21A2) in the HLA class III area on the short arm of chromosome 6p21.3. In this region, a 30 kb deletion produces a non functional chimeric gene with its 5′ and 3′ ends corresponding to CYP21A1P pseudogene and CYP21A2, respectively. To date, five different CYP21A1P/CYP21A2 chimeric genes have been found and characterized in recent studies. In this paper, we describe a new CYP21A1P/CYP21A2 chimera (CH-6) found in an Italian CAH patient. Methods Southern blot analysis and CYP21A2 sequencing were performed on the patient. In addition, in order to isolate the new CH-6 chimeric gene, two different strategies were used. Results: The CYP21A2 sequencing analysis showed that the patient was homozygote for the g.655C/A<G mutation and heterozygote for the p.P30L missense mutation. In addition, the promoter sequence revealed the presence, in heterozygosis, of 13 SNPs generally produced by microconversion events between gene and pseudogene. Southern blot analysis showed that the woman was heterozygote for the classic 30-kb deletion producing a new CYP21A1P/CYP21A2 chimeric gene (CH-6). The hybrid junction site was located between the end of intron 2 pseudogene, after the g.656C/A<G mutation, and the beginning of exon 3, before the 8 bp deletion. Consequently, CH-6 carries three mutations: the weak pseudogene promoter region, the p.P30L and the g.655C/A<G splice mutation. Conclusion: We describe a new CYP21A1P/CYP21A2 chimera (CH-6), associated with the HLA-B15, DR13 haplotype, in a young Italian CAH patient. © 2009 Concolino et al; licensee BioMed Central Ltd

    Security Analysis of Sensor Networks

    Wireless sensor networks distribute a common sensing and computing task within the large number of participants that use wireless communication. Such networks require a self-organizing and energy-aware set of protocols. Several protocols have beed designed for such environments, however to make certain proof of their secureness, their formal analysis is required. In our article, we show an analysis framework capable of proving security properties of such protocols. Our methodology is based on the CSP process algebra. We will demonstrate its power by giving an attack possibility for an existing protocol, and the extensibility of the model will also be pointed

    Postnatal expression of myostain (MSTN) and myogenin (MYoG) genes in Hu sheep of China

    The study of candidate genes is an important tool to identify genes associated with economic traits. Skeletal muscle development is an important physiological process in meat animals, and it directly affects meat production. The expression of myostain (MSTN) and myogenin (MYoG) genes in longissimus dorsi, during the early growth stage of Hu sheep, was studied by semi-quantitative Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The results demonstrate that age and gender were playing a very important role in the expression of sheep muscle. MSTN and MYOG genes showed similar variation pattern for the male and female. The expression level of the MSTN and MYoG genes all showed a positive correlation with live weight, carcass weight and meat percentage, but only showed a significant relationship with meat percentage.
