Practical Implementations of Twirl Operations
Twirl operations, which convert impure singlet states into Werner states,
play an important role in many schemes for entanglement purification. In this
paper we describe strategies for implementing twirl operations, with an
emphasis on methods suitable for ensemble quantum information processors such
as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) quantum computers. We implement our twirl
operation on a general two-spin mixed state using liquid state NMR techniques,

1/T_1 nuclear relaxation time of \kappa-(BEDT-TTF)_ 2 Cu [N(CN)_2] Cl : effects of magnetic frustration
We study the role played by the magnetic frustration in the antiferromagnetic
phase of the organic salt \kappa-(BEDT-TTF)_ 2 Cu [N(CN)_2] Cl. Using the
spatially anisotropic triangular Heisenberg model we analyze previous and new
performed NMR experiments. We compute the 1/T_1 relaxation time by means of the
modified spin wave theory. The strong suppression of the nuclear relaxation
time observed experimentally under varying pressure and magnetic field is
qualitatively well reproduced by the model. Our results suggest the existence

Dynamical heterogeneities in a supercooled Lennard-Jones liquid
We present the results of a large scale molecular dynamics computer
simulation study in which we investigate whether a supercooled Lennard-Jones
liquid exhibits dynamical heterogeneities. We evaluate the non-Gaussian
parameter for the self part of the van Hove correlation function and use it to
identify ``mobile'' particles. We find that these particles form clusters whose
size grows with decreasing temperature. We also find that the relaxation time
of the mobile particles is significantly shorter than that of the bulk, and
that this difference increases with decreasing temperature.Comment: 8 pages of RevTex, 4 ps figure
Relaxation in the glass-former acetyl salicylic acid studied by deuteron magnetic resonance and dielectric spectroscopy
Supercooled liquid and glassy acetyl salicylic acid was studied using
dielectric spectroscopy and deuteron relaxometry in a wide temperature range.
The supercooled liquid is characterized by major deviations from thermally
activated behavior. In the glass the secondary relaxation exhibits the typical
features of a Johari-Goldstein process. Via measurements of spin-lattice
relaxation times the selectively deuterated methyl group was used as a
sensitive probe of its local environments. There is a large difference in the
mean activation energy in the glass with respect to that in crystalline acetyl
salicylic acid. This can be understood by taking into account the broad energy

Late Stages of Phase Separation in a Binary Polymer Blend Studied by Rheology, Optical and Electron Microscopy, and Solid State NMR
Transitions/relaxations in polyester adhesive/PET system
The correlations between the transitions and the dielectric relaxation processes of the oriented poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) pre-impregnated of the polyester thermoplastic adhesive have been investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic dielectric spectroscopy (DDS). The thermoplastic polyester adhesive and the oriented PET films have been studied as reference samples. This study evidences that the adhesive chain segments is responsible for the physical structure evolution in the PET-oriented film. The transitions and dielectric relaxation modes’ evolutions in the glass transition region appear characteristic of the interphase between adhesive and PET film, which is discussed in terms of molecular mobility. The storage at room temperature of the adhesive tape involves the heterogeneity of the physical structure, characterized by glass transition dissociation. Thus, the correlation between the transitions and the dielectric relaxation processes evidences a segregation of the amorphous phases. Therefore, the physical structure and the properties of the material have been linked to the chemical characteristics
Dynamic heterogeneities in the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of simple spherical spin models
The response of spherical two-spin interaction models, the spherical
ferromagnet (s-FM) and the spherical Sherrington-Kirkpatrick (s-SK) model, is
calculated for the protocol of the so-called nonresonant hole burning
experiment (NHB) for temperatures below the respective critical temperatures.
It is shown that it is possible to select dynamic features in the
out-of-equilibrium dynamics of both models, one of the hallmarks of dynamic
heterogeneities. The behavior of the s-SK model and the s-FM in three
dimensions is very similar, showing dynamic heterogeneities in the long time
behavior, i.e. in the aging regime. The appearence of dynamic heterogeneities
in the s-SK model explicitly demonstrates that these are not necessarily
related to {\it spatial} heterogeneities. For the s-FM it is shown that the
nature of the dynamic heterogeneities changes as a function of dimensionality.
With incresing dimension the frequency selectivity of the NHB diminishes and
the dynamics in the mean-field limit of the s-FM model becomes homogeneous.Comment: 16 pages, 8 figure
The Heidelberg-Moscow double beta decay experiment with enriched 76Ge. First results
Abstract The status of the Heidelberg-Moscow ββ-experiment using isotopically enriched 76Ge is reported. The results of 14.8 mol yr (or 1.29 kg yr) of operation are presented. From these data a new half life time for the ββ0v-decay of 76Ge to the ground state of 76Se of T 1 2 1.4 (2.5) X 10 24 yr with 90% (68%) CL can be deduced. For a possible neutrinoless decay to the first excited state a half life of 4.3(8.2)X1023 yr can be excluded with 90% (68%) CL
