Hydatid cyst of ovary: an unusual site
Discovering a hydatid cyst in pelvic region, especially as primary localization, is a rare event; as a matter of fact according to data provided by literature the incidence is between 0.2 and 2.25%. The ovarian involvement is often secondary to a cyst's dissemination localized in a different site. When possible the optimal treatment is represented by radical laparotomic cystectomy. We report a case of an old postmenopausal woman presented with intermittent dull aching pain with 16 weeks cystic pelvic mass which mimicked the ovarian malignancy even after imaging techniques. Salmonella Dublin associated with abortion in dairy cattle in Algiers and comparison of different diagnostic methods
Background: In cattle, many serotypes of Salmonella enterica are responsible for a wide variety of clinical manifestations, which can cause considerable economic loss. Some serotypes can cause cows to abort sporadically, such as the Dublin serotype. This study was carried out on different cattle farms in the Algiers region to determine the prevalence of Salmonella Dublin using bacteriological and immunological methods.Methodology: The prevalence of Salmonella was determined by bacteriological analysis in accordance with the reference method AFNOR NF U 47-100 on faecal samples collected from 184 cattle belonging to 19 different farms, and serotyping for S. Dublin. Immunological analysis by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for S. Dublin was carried out on milk samples collected from 91 cattle. A survey of case (n=5) and control (n=14) farms for comparative analysis was performed to demonstrate a link between abortion in cows and prevalence of S. Dublin with both bacteriological and immunological methods. Sensitivity, specificity, Cohen Kappa coefficient, McNemar test odds ratios, and confidence intervals were calculated using Winepiscope 2.0 and StatA 9.1 software,and p<0.05 was considered as statistically significant.Results: The bacteriological results showed a prevalence of 7.6% (95%CI: 3-10), for Salmonella and serotyping revealed a prevalence for S. Dublin of 2.7%. The immunological analysis of milk by the ELISA technique revealed a prevalence of 13.2% (95%CI: 5-20) for S. Dublin. The comparative study between immunological results from milk and bacteriological results from faeces for detecting S. Dublin showed poor agreement between the two tests (k=0.25), with enzyme immunoassay being significantly more sensitive than the bacteriological test (p<0.05). The results of the survey did not demonstrate a clear association between bacteriological detection of S. Dublin in faeces and abortion in cows (OR=8.66, 95%CI: 0.58-130.12). However, with the immunological analysis of milk for S. Dublin, there was a significant positive association (OR=62.33, 95%CI: 2.13-18.22) between a positive antibody response to S. Dublin in milk and the presence of abortions on the farm.Conclusion: In view of these results, we can conclude that Salmonella infections should systematically feature in the differential diagnosis of abortions in dairy cattle in Algeria.

A study of frequency and pulses for stepper motor controller system by using programmable logic controller
The stepper motor movement process produced different frequency and pulses. This research explained about the frequency and pulses for the stepper motor movement by using Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) as research method. The study was done to find the suitable frequency and pulses for stepper motor movement by developing a prototype stepper motor controller system. The pulse frequency used did not affected the distance of moving load in the stepper motor operations. The increasing number of pulse frequency only will affect the time taken for the stepper motor to complete its operations. The result showed that number of pulse frequency at high operation was 5000 Hz. Pulse number reacted as a manipulated variable that affected both factor which is time taken of stepper motor operation and the distance of moving load

Co(II), Ni(U), Cu(II), Ru(III) , Rh(III), Pd(II), Pt(IV), Zn(II), Cd(II)
and Hg(II) have been prepared and characterized by chemical
analysis, IR - and reflectance spectral studies and magnetic
susceptibili ty measurements. In all these complexes the dithiocarbamato
moiety acts as a chelate. The Ni(II), Cu(II) and Pd(Il)
complexes have been found to be square planar while those of
Ru(III), Rh(III) and Pt(IV) were proposed to be octahedral in
nature. The Co(II) ion seems to have a tetrahedral geometry, unlike
the other known square planar dithiocarbamato complexes of
Co(II). No definite structure, however, could be proposed for Zn(II),
Cd(II) and Hg(II) on the basis of limited studies

Why do families of sick newborns accept hospital care? a community-based cohort study in Karachi, Pakistan
Objective: Sick young infants are at high risk of mortality in developing countries, but families often decline hospital referral. Our objective was to identify the predictors of acceptance of referral for hospital care among families of severely ill newborns and infants Karachi, Pakistan. Study Design: A cohort of 541 newborns and infants referred from home by community health workers conducting household surveillance, and diagnosed with a serious illness at local community clinics between 1 January and 31 December 2007, was followed-up within 1 month of referral to the public hospital. Result: Only 24% of families accepted hospital referral. Major reasons for refusal were financial difficulties (67%) and father/elder denying permission (65%). Religious/cultural beliefs were cited by 20% of families. Referral acceptance was higher with recognition of severity of the illness by mother (odds ratio = 12.7, 95% confidence interval = 4.6 to 35.2), family\u27s ability to speak the dominant language at hospital (odds ratio = 2.0, 95% confidence interval = 1.3-3.1), presence of grunting in the infant (odds ratio = 3.3, 95% confidence interval = 1.2-9.0) and infant temperature Conclusion: Refusal of hospital referral for sick young infants is very common. Interventions that encourage appropriate care seeking, as well as community-based management of young infant illnesses when referral is not feasible are needed to improve neonatal survival in low-income countries
Numerical investigation on flame propagation in vented gas explosion
Explosion venting technology is one of the effective and widely used methods in protection measures against accidental internal gas explosions by relieving the pressure generated within the volume. Extensive studies have been carried out to investigate factors governing to the explosion development i.e. ignition position and vent burst pressure. However, the physical and dynamic process of explosion development during the venting to ambient air is yet not well understood. The primary motivation of this research was to gain improved understanding of turbulent flame propagation in vented gas explosion, with a view to develop improved models and methods for assessing explosion risks in the process industries. Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) analyses using FLUENT is adopted to study the phenomenology underlying vented gas explosions. Computations were run on deflagrating turbulent flames in small-scale combustion chambers with two different volumes (0.02 m3 and 0.0065 m3), with both closed at the rear end and open at the opposite face, in order to replicate the experimental work. All cases are initialised from stagnation. Only stoichiometric concentration of propane and methane-Air mixtures was considered with different ignition positions and vent static burst pressure, Pv. From the finding, end ignition gave higher reduced overpressure on both experimental and simulation results, compared to central ignition. The inclusion of vents in the enclosures provides significant reduction on the peak overpressures. However, it has been recognised on a tendency to a less effective reduction as the vent burst pressure, Pv was further increased. The competition between combustion rate and venting rate allows the explanation on both number and intensity of the overpressure peaks observed in propane-Air explosion
Is metal artefact reduction mandatory in cardiac PET/CT imaging in the presence of pacemaker and implantable cardioverter defibrillator leads?
Abstract Purpose Cardiac PET/CT imaging is often performed in patients with pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) leads. However, metallic implants usually produce artefacts on CT images which might propagate to CTbased attenuation-corrected (CTAC) PET images. The impact of metal artefact reduction (MAR) for CTAC of cardiac PET/ CT images in the presence of pacemaker, ICD and ECG leads was investigated using both qualitative and quantitative analysis in phantom and clinical studies. Methods The study included 14 patients with various leads undergoing perfusion and viability examinations using dedicated cardiac PET/CT protocols. The PET data were corrected for attenuation using both artefactual CT images and CT images corrected using the MAR algorithm. The severity and magnitude of metallic artefacts arising from these leads were assessed on both linear attenuation coefficient maps (μ-maps) and attenuation-corrected PET images. CT and PET emission data were obtained using an anthropomorphic thorax phantom and a dedicated heart phantom made in-house incorporating pacemaker and ICD leads attached at the right ventricle of the heart. Volume of interest-based analysis and regression plots were performed for regions related to the lead locations. Bull's eye view analysis was also performed on PET images corrected for attenuation with and without the MAR algorithm. Results In clinical studies, the visual assessment of PET images by experienced physicians and quantitative analysis did not reveal erroneous interpretation of the tracer distribution or significant differences when PET images were corrected for attenuation with and without MAR. In phantom studies, the mean differences between tracer Nucl Med Mol Imaging (2011) 38:252-262 DOI 10.1007/s00259-010-1635 uptake obtained without and with MAR were 10.16±2.1% and 6.86±2.1% in the segments of the heart in the vicinity of metallic ICD or pacemaker leads, and were 4.43±0.5% and 2.98±0.5% in segments far from the leads. Conclusion Although the MAR algorithm was able to effectively improve the quality of μ-maps, its clinical impact on the interpretation of PET images was not significant. Therefore cardiac PET images corrected for attenuation using CTAC in the presence of metallic leads can be interpreted without correction for metal artefacts. It should however be emphasized that in some special cases with multiple ICD leads attached to the myocardium wall, MAR might be useful for accurate attenuation correction. Eur
Analysis on Wearable Antenna Performance on Different Radiating Elements for GPS Application
This paper presents a study on the performance of self-manufactured electro-textile (SME-T) antenna that was designed at 1.575 GHz based on the allocated spectrum for Global Positioning System (GPS) application. However, due to its known low-conductivity characteristic, the ability of the newly developed material to perform as a good antenna shall be verified. Therefore, the performance of the antennas are compared and studied with respect to established materials such as adhesive copper tape and commercial conductive fabric named SHIELDITTM as the radiating elements. Here, four e-textile antennas having approximately the same size are fabricated and tested. The performance of all antennas, in terms of return loss, radiation pattern, gain, and efficiency; manufactured by using different radiating elements, such as copper, SHIELDITTM and SME-T fabricated on polyester fabric as the substrate are analyzed. The measured return loss and radiation pattern of SME-T antenna has proven that the antenna is well suited for wearable application. The measured antenna gain and efficiency of 0.61 dB and 25.95% are obtained and it is proven that the fabricated SME-T antenna can act as a receiving antenna designed for GPS applications which requires low gain antenna for passive monitoring
