Towards a Mg lattice clock: Observation of the transition and determination of the magic wavelength
We optically excite the electronic state in Mg atoms,
laser-cooled and trapped in a magic-wavelength lattice. An applied magnetic
field enhances the coupling of the light to the otherwise strictly forbidden
transition. We determine the magic wavelength, the quadratic magnetic Zeeman
shift and the transition frequency to be 468.463(207)nm,
-206.6(2.0)MHz/T and 655 058 646 691(101)kHz, respectively. These
are compared with theoretical predictions and results from complementary
experiments. We also developed a high-precision relativistic structure model
for magnesium, give an improved theoretical value for the blackbody radiation
shift and discuss a clock based on bosonic magnesium.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
Fetal leg posture in uncomplicated breech and cephalic pregnancies
Background The objective of our study was to determine differences in prenatal leg posture development between breech and cephalic-born babies. Materials and methods Ten healthy fetuses in breech and ten healthy fetuses in cephalic presentation were observed by means of weekly ultrasounds from 33 weeks gestational age until birth to assess leg posture. Results The breech fetuses showed a clear preference for an extended leg position; they spent significantly more time with their knees in extension than the cephalic fetuses (p<0.001). The cephalic fetuses showed significantly more leg-crossing than the breech fetuses (p<0.01). For both findings, no significant change over time could be observed in either group. Conclusion These findings show that the intra-uterine position does influence the fetal postural and motor development. However, it seems unlikely that intra-uterine movement restriction can solely be held accountable for the observed differences in leg position between breech and cephalic fetuses. © 2008 The Author(s)

Design of Human-Machine-Interfaces for DAS
Interaction between human and machine occurs via interfaces that provide the driver with information and are meant to assist the driver in the task of driving safely, effectively, and efficiently. The following is an explanation of how displays and controls must be designed in the course of product development and which aspects deserve the most attention from the standpoint of the interaction between human and machine. Firstly, a working model is presented in order to explain human information processing and the action process. This model can be regarded as the foundation for designing an HMI. This is followed by various methods of systematizing displays and controls best suited for approaching the issues involved in
driving a vehicle. However, the human being should be at the center of the design process, which is the reason why design guidelines and principles are listed, in order to explain the underpinnings of the
approach while focusing on user-oriented implementation
Gestaltung von Mensch-Maschine-Schnittstellen
Die Interaktion zwischen Mensch und Maschine
erfolgt über Schnittstellen, die dem Fahrer Informationen
liefern und ihm behilflich sein sollen, die
Fahraufgabe sicher, effektiv und effizient zu bewältigen.
Wie die Gestaltung von Anzeigen und Bedienelementen
vorgenommen werden muss und worauf
während des Entwicklungsprozesses in Bezug
auf die Interaktion zwischen Mensch und Maschine
Rücksicht genommen werden muss, soll hier geklärt
werden.
So wird zunächst ein Arbeitsmodell zur Erklärung
der menschlichen Informationsverarbeitung
und des Handlungsprozesses geliefert, das als Basis
der Gestaltung von MMS angesehen werden kann.
Darauf folgen unterschiedliche Systematisierungen
von Anzeigen und Bedienelementen, die sich der
Problematik des Fahrens am ehesten annähern. Im
Mittelpunkt des Gestaltungsprozesses soll jedoch
der Mensch stehen, weshalb Gestaltungsleitsätze
und Prinzipien angeführt werden, um die Grundlage
des Vorgehens – fokussiert auf benutzerorientierte
Umsetzung – zu erläutern
