Methane hydrate: shifting the coexistence temperature to higher temperatures with an external electric field
In the present work, we used molecular dynamic simulations of the equilibrium NPT ensemble to examine the effect of an external electric field on the three-phase coexistence temperature of methane gas, liquid water and methane hydrate. For these simulations, we used the TIP4P/Ice rigid water model and a single-site model for methane. The simulations were implemented at two pressures, 400 and 250bar, over temperatures ranging from 285 to 320K and from 280 to 315K, respectively. The application of an external electric field in the range of 0.1-0.9caused the effect of the thermal vibrations of the water molecules to become attenuated. This resulted in a shift of the three-phase coexistence temperature to higher temperatures. Electric fields below this range did not cause a difference in the coexistence temperature, and electric fields above this range enhanced the thermal effect. The shift had a magnitude of 22.5K on average.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
Ultra Low-Power Analog Median Filters
The design and implementation of three analog median filter topologies, whose transistors operate in the deep weak-inversion region, is described. The first topology is a differential pairs array, in which drain currents are driven into two nodes in a differential fashion, while the second topology is based on a wide range OTA, which is used to maximize the dynamic range. Finally, the third topology uses three range-extended OTAs. The proposed weak-inversion filters were designed and fabricated in ON Semiconductor 0.5 micrometer technology through MOSIS. Experimental results of three-input fabricated prototypes for all three topologies are show, where power consumptions of 90nW in the first case, and 270nW in the other two cases can be noticed. A dual power supply +/-1.5 Volts were used
Capital allocation for credit portfolios with kernel estimators
Determining contributions by sub-portfolios or single exposures to
portfolio-wide economic capital for credit risk is an important risk
measurement task. Often economic capital is measured as Value-at-Risk (VaR) of
the portfolio loss distribution. For many of the credit portfolio risk models
used in practice, the VaR contributions then have to be estimated from Monte
Carlo samples. In the context of a partly continuous loss distribution (i.e.
continuous except for a positive point mass on zero), we investigate how to
combine kernel estimation methods with importance sampling to achieve more
efficient (i.e. less volatile) estimation of VaR contributions.Comment: 22 pages, 12 tables, 1 figure, some amendment
Spectroscopic evidence in solid and solution of a discrete copper(I) tetrahedral complex dimer supported by supramolecular interactions
The first study of the self-association of a copper(I) tetrahedral complex ([Cu(N-{4-nitrophenyl}pyridine-2-yl-methanimine)(PPh 3)Br]) has been performed. The formation of a discrete dimer supported by supramolecular π-π stacking and C-H·Br interactions was established by X-ray diffraction techniques. 1D- and 2D NMR techniques were used for the structural characterization of this compound in solution. Unexpected 1H- 1H NOE effects are coherent with the presence of a dimer in solution, whose structure replicates that found in the crystal. Dimerization constants obtained by VT- 1H NMR spectroscopy allowed the determination ofthe thermodynamic parameters for the self-association process, namely ΔS = -0.67±0.21 calmol -1K -1, ΔH = -2.00±0.05 kcalmol -1 and ΔG(298 K) = -1.79 kcalmol -1. Consequently, this association process is enthalpy driven.Fil: Jara, Danilo H.. Universidad de Santiago de Chile; ChileFil: Lemus, Luis. Universidad de Santiago de Chile; ChileFil: Farías, Liliana. Group Approach to the Quantization of the P\"oschl-Teller dynamics
The quantum dynamics of a particle in the Modified P\"oschl-Teller potential
is derived from the group by applying a Group Approach to
Quantization (GAQ). The explicit form of the Hamiltonian as well as the ladder
operators is found in the enveloping algebra of this basic symmetry group. The
present algorithm provides a physical realization of the non-unitary,
finite-dimensional, irreducible representations of the group. The
non-unitarity manifests itself in that only half of the states are
normalizable, in contrast with the representations of SU(2) where all the
states are physical.Comment: 17 pages, LaTe
