Critical exponents of a three dimensional O(4) spin model
By Monte Carlo simulation we study the critical exponents governing the
transition of the three-dimensional classical O(4) Heisenberg model, which is
considered to be in the same universality class as the finite-temperature QCD
with massless two flavors. We use the single cluster algorithm and the
histogram reweighting technique to obtain observables at the critical
temperature. After estimating an accurate value of the inverse critical
temperature \Kc=0.9360(1), we make non-perturbative estimates for various
critical exponents by finite-size scaling analysis. They are in excellent
agreement with those obtained with the expansion method with

Ownership mode, cultural distance, and the extent of parent firms’ strategic control over subsidiaries in the PRC
Previous studies often associated a specific type of ownership mode with the extent of control a parent firm may have over (strategic) decision-making in a foreign subsidiary, suggesting that parent firms should have higher control over wholly-owned subsidiaries (WoS) than international joint ventures (IJVs). Building on principal agent theory, we argue that in the Chinese context higher ownership levels do not necessarily have a positive effect on the extent of control over the foreign subsidiary. We further argue that cultural distance between the parent firm and the subsidiary moderates this relationship. We test our hypotheses using data from a sample of 156 foreign subsidiaries in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and find strong support for our arguments. Our findings show that in WoS parent firms reduce their extent of control, while in IJVs parent firms increase their extent of control. Moreover, we find that extent of control over WoS (IJVs) declines (increases) when cultural distance increases. Our results have significant theoretical implications for international business (IB) research as they challenge existing views with regard to the relationship between ownership mode and control as well as the moderating effect of cultural distance
Cluster Dynamics for Randomly Frustrated Systems with Finite Connectivity
In simulations of some infinite range spin glass systems with finite
connectivity, it is found that for any resonable computational time, the
saturatedenergy per spin that is achieved by a cluster algorithm is lowered in
comparison to that achieved by Metropolis dynamics.The gap between the average
energies obtained from these two dynamics is robust with respect to variations
of the annealing schedule. For some probability distribution of the
interactions the ground state energy is calculated analytically within the
replica symmetry assumptionand is found to be saturated by a cluster algorithm.Comment: Revtex, 4 pages with 3 figure
The 2-dimensional non-linear sigma-model on a random latice
The O(n) non-linear -model is simulated on 2-dimensional regular and
random lattices. We use two different levels of randomness in the construction
of the random lattices and give a detailed explanation of the geometry of such
lattices. In the simulations, we calculate the mass gap for and 8,
analysing the asymptotic scaling of the data and computing the ratio of Lambda
parameters . These ratios are in
agreement with previous semi-analytical calculations. We also numerically

Origin of the reduced exchange bias in epitaxial FeNi(111)/CoO(111) bilayer
We have employed Soft and Hard X-ray Resonant Magnetic Scattering and
Polarised Neutron Diffraction to study the magnetic interface and the bulk
antiferromagnetic domain state of the archetypal epitaxial
NiFe(111)/CoO(111) exchange biased bilayer. The combination of
these scattering tools provides unprecedented detailed insights into the still
incomplete understanding of some key manifestations of the exchange bias
effect. We show that the several orders of magnitude difference between the
expected and measured value of exchange bias field is caused by an almost
anisotropic in-plane orientation of antiferromagnetic domains. Irreversible
changes of their configuration lead to a training effect. This is directly seen
as a change in the magnetic half order Bragg peaks after magnetization
reversal. A 30 nm size of antiferromagnetic domains is extracted from the width
the (1/2 1/2 1/2) antiferromagnetic magnetic peak measured both by neutron and
x-ray scattering. A reduced blocking temperature as compared to the measured
antiferromagnetic ordering temperature clearly corresponds to the blocking of
antiferromagnetic domains. Moreover, an excellent correlation between the size
of the antiferromagnetic domains, exchange bias field and frozen-in spin ratio
is found, providing a comprehensive understanding of the origin of exchange

Polaron percolation in diluted magnetic semiconductors
We theoretically study the development of spontaneous magnetization in
diluted magnetic semiconductors as arising from a percolation of bound magnetic
polarons. Within the framework of a generalized percolation theory we derive
analytic expressions for the Curie temperature and the magnetization, obtaining
excellent quantitative agreement with Monte Carlo simulation results and good
qualitative agreement with experimental results.Comment: 5 page
