Long-range correlation-induced effects at high-order harmonic generation on graphene quantum dots
This paper focuses on investigating high-order harmonic generation (HHG) in
graphene quantum dots (GQDs) under intense near-infrared laser fields. To model
the GQD and its interaction with the laser field, we utilize a mean-field
approach. Our analysis of the HHG power spectrum reveals fine structures and a
noticeable enhancement in cutoff harmonics due to the long-range correlations.
We also demonstrate the essential role of Coulomb interaction in determining of
harmonics intensities and cutoff position. Unlike atomic HHG, where the cutoff
energy is proportional to the pump wave intensity, in GQDs the cutoff energy
scales with the square root of the field strength amplitude. A detailed
time-frequency analysis of the entire range of HHG spectrum is presented using
a wavelet transform. The analysis reveals intricate details of the spectral and
temporal fine structures of HHG, offering insights into the various HHG
mechanisms in GQDs.Comment: 10 pages, 15 figure
A search for pulsations in the HgMn star HD 45975 with CoRoT photometry and ground-based spectroscopy
The existence of pulsations in HgMn stars is still being debated. To provide
the first unambiguous observational detection of pulsations in this class of
chemically peculiar objects, the bright star HD 45975 was monitored for nearly
two months by the CoRoT satellite. Independent analyses of the light curve
provides evidence of monoperiodic variations with a frequency of 0.7572 c/d and
a peak-to-peak amplitude of ~2800 ppm. Multisite, ground-based spectroscopic
observations overlapping the CoRoT observations show the star to be a
long-period, single-lined binary. Furthermore, with the notable exception of
mercury, they reveal the same periodicity as in photometry in the line moments
of chemical species exhibiting strong overabundances (e.g., Mn and Y). In
contrast, lines of other elements do not show significant variations. As found
in other HgMn stars, the pattern of variability consists in an absorption bump
moving redwards across the line profiles. We argue that the photometric and
spectroscopic changes are more consistent with an interpretation in terms of
rotational modulation of spots at the stellar surface. In this framework, the
existence of pulsations producing photometric variations above the ~50 ppm
level is unlikely in HD 45975. This provides strong constraints on the
excitation/damping of pulsation modes in this HgMn star.Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A, 14 pages, 15 colour figures (revised

Meso-substituted cationic 3- and 4-N-Pyridylporphyrins and their Zn(II) derivatives for antibacterial photodynamic therapy
Photodynamic inactivation of microorganisms known as antibacterial photodynamic therapy (APDT) is one of the most promising and innovative approaches for the destruction of pathogenic microorganisms. Among the photosensitizers (PSs), compounds based on cationic porphyrins/ metalloporphyrins are most successfully used to inactivate microorganisms. Series of meso-substituted cationic pyridylporphyrins and metalloporphyrins with various peripheral groups in the third and fourth positions of the pyrrole ring have been synthesized in Armenia. The aim of this work was to determine and test the most effective cationic porphyrins and metalloporphyrins with high photoactivity against Gram negative and Gram positive microorganisms. It was shown that the synthesized cationic pyridylporphyrins/metalloporphyrins exhibit a high degree of phototoxicity towards both types of bacteria, including the methicillin-resistant S. aureus strain. Zinc complexes of porphyrins are more phototoxic than metal-free porphyrin analogs. The effectiveness of these Zn-metalloporphyrins on bacteria is consistent with the level of singlet oxygen generation. It was found that the high antibacterial activity of the studied cationic porphyrins/metalloporphyrins depends on four factors: The presence in the porphyrin macrocycle of a positive charge (+4), a central metal atom (Zn2+) and hydrophobic peripheral functional groups as well as high values of quantum yields of singlet oxygen. The results indicate that meso-substituted cationic pyridylporphyrins/metalloporphyrins can find wider application in photoinactivation of bacteria than anionic or neutral PSs usually used in APD
Differential (2+1) Jet Event Rates and Determination of alpha_s in Deep Inelastic Scattering at HERA
Events with a (2+1) jet topology in deep-inelastic scattering at HERA are
studied in the kinematic range 200 < Q^2< 10,000 GeV^2. The rate of (2+1) jet
events has been determined with the modified JADE jet algorithm as a function
of the jet resolution parameter and is compared with the predictions of Monte
Carlo models. In addition, the event rate is corrected for both hadronization
and detector effects and is compared with next-to-leading order QCD
calculations. A value of the strong coupling constant of alpha_s(M_Z^2)=
0.118+- 0.002 (stat.)^(+0.007)_(-0.008) (syst.)^(+0.007)_(-0.006) (theory) is
extracted. The systematic error includes uncertainties in the calorimeter
energy calibration, in the description of the data by current Monte Carlo
models, and in the knowledge of the parton densities. The theoretical error is
dominated by the renormalization scale ambiguity.Comment: 25 pages, 6 figures, 3 tables, submitted to Eur. Phys.
