    Another look at anomalous J/Psi suppression in Pb+Pb collisions at P/A = 158 GeV/c

A new data presentation is proposed to consider anomalous J/ΨJ/\Psi suppression in Pb + Pb collisions at P/A=158P/A=158 GeV/c. If the inclusive differential cross section with respect to a centrality variable is available, one can plot the yield of J/Psi events per Pb-Pb collision as a function of an estimated squared impact parameter. Both quantities are raw experimental data and have a clear physical meaning. As compared to the usual J/Psi over Drell-Yan ratio, there is a huge gain in statistical accuracy. This presentation could be applied advantageously to many processes in the field of nucleus-nucleus collisions at various energies.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, submitted to The European Physical Journal C; minor revisions for final versio

Linear semigroups with coarsely dense orbits

Let SS be a finitely generated abelian semigroup of invertible linear operators on a finite dimensional real or complex vector space VV. We show that every coarsely dense orbit of SS is actually dense in VV. More generally, if the orbit contains a coarsely dense subset of some open cone CC in VV then the closure of the orbit contains the closure of CC. In the complex case the orbit is then actually dense in VV. For the real case we give precise information about the possible cases for the closure of the orbit.Comment: We added comments and remarks at various places. 14 page

LpL^p-Spectral theory of locally symmetric spaces with QQ-rank one

We study the LpL^p-spectrum of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on certain complete locally symmetric spaces M=Γ\XM=\Gamma\backslash X with finite volume and arithmetic fundamental group Γ\Gamma whose universal covering XX is a symmetric space of non-compact type. We also show, how the obtained results for locally symmetric spaces can be generalized to manifolds with cusps of rank one

Arithmeticity vs. non-linearity for irreducible lattices

We establish an arithmeticity vs. non-linearity alternative for irreducible lattices in suitable product groups, such as for instance products of topologically simple groups. This applies notably to a (large class of) Kac-Moody groups. The alternative relies on a CAT(0) superrigidity theorem, as we follow Margulis' reduction of arithmeticity to superrigidity.Comment: 11 page

On the cohomology of some exceptional symmetric spaces

This is a survey on the construction of a canonical or "octonionic K\"ahler" 8-form, representing one of the generators of the cohomology of the four Cayley-Rosenfeld projective planes. The construction, in terms of the associated even Clifford structures, draws a parallel with that of the quaternion K\"ahler 4-form. We point out how these notions allow to describe the primitive Betti numbers with respect to different even Clifford structures, on most of the exceptional symmetric spaces of compact type.Comment: 12 pages. Arbitrarily large families of spaces of the same volume

In any connected non-compact semi-simple Lie group without factors locally isomorphic to SL_2(R), there can be only finitely many lattices (up to isomorphism) of a given covolume. We show that there exist arbitrarily large families of pairwise non-isomorphic arithmetic lattices of the same covolume. We construct these lattices with the help of Bruhat-Tits theory, using Prasad's volume formula to control their covolumes.Comment: 9 pages. Syntax corrected; one reference adde

    Elevages caprins en Guadeloupe

    Get PDF

    Knaster's problem for (Z2)k(Z_2)^k-symmetric subsets of the sphere S2k1S^{2^k-1}

We prove a Knaster-type result for orbits of the group (Z2)k(Z_2)^k in S2k1S^{2^k-1}, calculating the Euler class obstruction. Among the consequences are: a result about inscribing skew crosspolytopes in hypersurfaces in R2k\mathbb R^{2^k}, and a result about equipartition of a measures in R2k\mathbb R^{2^k} by (Z2)k+1(Z_2)^{k+1}-symmetric convex fans

Quantum Pieri rules for isotropic Grassmannians

We study the three point genus zero Gromov-Witten invariants on the Grassmannians which parametrize non-maximal isotropic subspaces in a vector space equipped with a nondegenerate symmetric or skew-symmetric form. We establish Pieri rules for the classical cohomology and the small quantum cohomology ring of these varieties, which give a combinatorial formula for the product of any Schubert class with certain special Schubert classes. We also give presentations of these rings, with integer coefficients, in terms of special Schubert class generators and relations.Comment: 59 pages, LaTeX, 6 figure
