Exploiting Cognitive Structure for Adaptive Learning

Adaptive learning, also known as adaptive teaching, relies on learning path recommendation, which sequentially recommends personalized learning items (e.g., lectures, exercises) to satisfy the unique needs of each learner. Although it is well known that modeling the cognitive structure including knowledge level of learners and knowledge structure (e.g., the prerequisite relations) of learning items is important for learning path recommendation, existing methods for adaptive learning often separately focus on either knowledge levels of learners or knowledge structure of learning items. To fully exploit the multifaceted cognitive structure for learning path recommendation, we propose a Cognitive Structure Enhanced framework for Adaptive Learning, named CSEAL. By viewing path recommendation as a Markov Decision Process and applying an actor-critic algorithm, CSEAL can sequentially identify the right learning items to different learners. Specifically, we first utilize a recurrent neural network to trace the evolving knowledge levels of learners at each learning step. Then, we design a navigation algorithm on the knowledge structure to ensure the logicality of learning paths, which reduces the search space in the decision process. Finally, the actor-critic algorithm is used to determine what to learn next and whose parameters are dynamically updated along the learning path. Extensive experiments on real-world data demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of CSEAL.Comment: Accepted by KDD 2019 Research Track. In this paper, we address the problem of image retrieval by learning images representation based on the activations of a Convolutional Neural Network. We present an end-to-end trainable network architecture that exploits a novel multi-scale local pooling based on NetVLAD and a triplet mining procedure based on samples difficulty to obtain an effective image representation. Extensive experiments show that our approach is able to reach state-of-the-art results on three standard datasets.Comment: Accepted at ICMR 202

During the tractor advancement, with being attached to the stoppage-system exercise preparedness over Rough raid surfaces oscillation of the machine take abode. These oscillations are a reason of impression pulsations in the hydraulic hook-system. The compression pulse reduction in the tractor Hitch-system is momentous for incremental of the system components lifetime. Pressure oscillation moisture in the tractor hydraulic defend-system can impair everywhere system oscillations and ameliorate the driving pilot. The show of spring in interrupt system is very serious. In this protrude a shock absorber is purpose and a 3D counterfeit are quiet worn Solid toil. The fontanel is also deviate by turn the stratum of the bound. Structural analysis and modal analysis are done on the intermission system by varying external for emerge, Spring Steel and Beryllium Copper. The analysis is done by considering a thing or two, bike weight, spotless impersonate and 2 persons. Structural analysis is done to establish the strength and formal analysis is done to arrange the displacements for dissimilar frequencies for multitude of modes. Comparison is done for two materials to realize essential for inducement in stop system. Analysis done in ANSYS

Cultures of conflict:Protests, violent repression, and community values

    Get PDF
What are the cultural origins of societal conflicts that revolve around democratization, women’s rights, and modern libertarian values? We propose that deep-seated differences in community-based collective values (at the micro-level) may be related to why people support anti-government protest and why they support repression of such protests (at the macro-level). The hypothesis was examined among residents of Turkey (N = 500). Cultural values, measured at the individual level and community level with the community collectivism scale, correlated with political orientation and emotions, as well as with subsequent support for anti-governmental protest or its repression. The main conclusions are that both support for protest and support for repression are related to the cultural values people hold and their subsequent political orientations and emotions. Micro-level cultural values in local communities may thus play a role in explaining macro-level socio-political divides

In now’s prosperous business education, with the manifold design of products and reduction of conjunction bike, wanted speed machining technology has been extensively adopted by manufacturers. With the educement of the form and technology, the high frequency spindles has been taken place of the Norma automatic grow more and more, and also be manner of the numerary direction dress with enormous effects. The geometric property of lofty-nicety capability is highly dependent on the dynamic offspring of the fair machining system, which is inclination by the interrelated dynamics of velocipede puppet mechanist building and cutting prosecute. This war is of immense object in advanced, proud-precision manufacturing preserver. The heroics-of-the-dexterity in bicycle gun main axis one is parallel on motorized axis one for superior-hurry and contemptuous movement cutting. In this offer, lofty haste motorized axis is intend and analyzed under the given enjoin conditions. They become fashion in this thesis is that used in a milling thrust bike. The 3D fork of spindle is designed in Pro/Engineer. The corporeal haunt for axis is Steel. In this composition, different materials are analysed for accrue. Aluminium subtility 6061 and 7075 are replace with harden. By repay the stiffen with aluminium calm, the efficacy of the grow decreases. Structural and Dynamic analyses is done assistant-action Ansys software. Modal analysis also is done to settle the frequencies

Asymmetric intergroup bullying: the enactment and maintenance of societal inequality at work

    Get PDF
What does inequality mean for dysfunctional organizational behaviours, such as workplace bullying? This article argues that workplace bullying can be understood as a manifestation of intergroup dynamics originating beyond the organization. We introduce the construct of asymmetric intergroup bullying: the disproportionate mistreatment of members of low status groups, with the intended effect of enhancing the subordination of that group in society at large. Analysis of data from 38 interviews with public and private sector workers in Turkey depicts a pattern of asymmetric intergroup bullying, undertaken to achieve organizational and broader sociopolitical goals. Respondents reported bullying acts used to get rid of unwanted personnel, with the goal of avoiding severance pay, or of removing supporters of the former government from positions of political and economic influence. Bullying was also described as working towards the dominance of the sociocultural worldview of one political group over another. We discuss asymmetric intergroup bullying as one mechanism through which acute intergroup hierarchy in the broader society corrupts management practice and employee interactions, in turn exacerbating economic inequality along group lines

Importance of the Fermi-surface topology to the superconducting state of the electron-doped pnictide Ba(Fe1-xCox)(2)As-2

    Get PDF
We used angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and thermoelectric power to study the poorly explored, highly overdoped side of the phase diagram of Ba(Fe1−xCox)2As2 high-temperature superconductor. Our data demonstrate that several Lifshitz transitions—topological changes of the Fermi surface—occur for large x. The central hole barrel changes to ellipsoids that are centered at Z at x∼0.11 and subsequently disappear around x∼0.2; changes in thermoelectric power occur at similar x values. Tc decreases and goes to zero around x∼0.15—between the two Lifshitz transitions. Beyond x=0.2 the central pocket becomes electron-like and superconductivity does not exist. Our observations reveal the importance of the underlying Fermiology in electron-doped iron arsenides. We speculate that a likely necessary condition for superconductivity in these materials is the presence of the central hole pockets rather than nesting between central and corner pockets
