Knowledge-based Virtual Reconstruction of Museum Artifacts

    Get PDF
Within the framework of heritage preservation, 3D scanning and modeling for heritage documentation has increased significantly in recent years, mainly due to the evolution of laser and image-based techniques, modeling software, powerful computers and virtual reality. 3D laser acquisition constitutes a real development opportunity for 3D modeling based previously on theoretical data. The representation of the object information rely on the knowledge of its historic and theoretical frame to reconstitute a posteriori its previous states. This project proposes an approach dealing with data extraction based on architectural knowledge and Laser statement informing measurements, the whole leading to 3D reconstruction. The experimented Khmer objects are exposed at Guimet museum in Paris. The purpose of this digital modeling meets the need of exploitable models for simulation projects, prototyping, exhibitions, promoting cultural tourism and particularly for archiving against any likely disaster and as an aided tool for the formulation of virtual museum concept

Estudios sobre la cinética de secado del orujo

The olive foot cake is a very important by-product of olive oil industry since it can contain until 12 % of oil which can be extracted using solvent. The used solvent is often immiscible with water. This is the reason why its effect is limited by the moisture of olive foot cake making its drying imperative. In this paper, we present the behaviour of olive foot cake subjected to convective drying. The experimental results show that the drying rate versus moisture presents only one period of decreasing rate. The influence of the main parameters on drying kinetics is studied.

Interaction of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Beam with Carbon Collimators

The LHC will operate at an energy of 7 TeV with a luminosity of 1034cm-2s-1. This requires two beams, each with 2808 bunches. The energy stored in each beam of 362 MJ. In a previous paper the mechanisms causing equipment damage in case of a failure of the machine protection system was discussed, assuming that the entire beam is deflected into a copper target [1, 2]. Another failure scenario is the deflection of beam into carbon material. Carbon collimators and beam absorbers are installed in many locations around the LHC to diffuse or absorb beam losses. Since the collimator jaws are close to the beam, it is very likely that they are hit first when the beam is accidentally deflected. Here we present the results of two-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations of the heating of a solid carbon cylinder irradiated by the LHC beam with nominal parameters, carried out using the BIG-2 computer code [3] while the energy loss of the 7 TeV protons in carbon is calculated using the well known FLUKA code [4]. Our calculations suggest that the LHC beam may penetrate up to about 10 m to 15 m in solid carbon, resulting in a substantial damage of collimators and beam absorbers

Respiratory function and bronchial responsiveness among industrial workers exposed to different classes of occupational agents: a study from Algeria

Occupational exposures play a role in the onset of several chronic airway diseases. We investigated, in a cross-sectional study, lung function parameters and bronchial hyper-responsiveness to histamine in workers exposed to different airborne compounds

Eight designed chalcones, named [1(p-benzenesulphonamidophenyl)-3-p-chloro-2-propene-1-one][2], [1(p-benzenesulphonamidophenyl)-3-p-nitro-2-propene-1-one][3], [1(4-Ureido)phenyl-3-p-chlorophenyl-2-propene-1-one][5], [1(4-Ureido)phenyl-3-p-nitroophenyl-2-propene-1-one][6], [1(4(p-N-methylaminophenyl)azophenyl-3-p-chlorophenyl-2-propene-1-one][8], [1(4(p-N-methylaminophenyl)azophenyl-3-p-nitroophenyl-2-propene-1-one][9], [1(p-aminophenyl)-3-p-chlorophenyl-2-propene-1-one][10] and [1(p-aminophenyl)-3-p-nitrophenyl-2-propene-1-one][11], were synthesised by condensation of synthesised p-acetylphenylbenzene- sulphonamide, p-acetylphenylurea and p-acetyl-p'-(N-methylamino)azobenzene, with p-chlorobenzaldehyde and p nitrobenzaldehyde in basic media respectively. All synthesised compounds are characterized by its melting points, FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and Mass spectral analysis. All synthesised compounds are examined their antimicrobial activities against Gram-Ve bactria (Serratia marcescens, Pseudmonas aeroginosa) and Gram+Ve bacterial (Stphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes), and Candida albicans fungi. Result showed good to moderate inhibition effect against some bacteria and fungi, in comparison with some pharmaceutical antibiotic and antifungal treatments like Cephalexin, Amoxicillin, Tetracycline, Lincomycine, Nystatine and Fluconazole respectively

Climate and vegetation structure determine plant diversity in Quercus ilex woodlands along an aridity and land use gradient in Northern Algeria

We studied the influence of environmental factors relating to climate, soil and vegetation cover on total species richness, species richness of different life-forms and species composition of plant communities occurring in Quercus ilex woodlands, across a 450-km long transect in Northern Algeria constituting a gradient of aridity and human use. We sampled vegetation and collected environmental data in 81 10 m × 10 m plots in five zones representing the largest Q. ilex woodlands throughout the study area, analysing them within an a priori hypothesis framework with the use of Path Analysis. Changes in plant diversity were mainly influenced by environmental factors related to precipitation and temperature regimes, as well as by total plant cover. In particular, changes in species composition were determined by factors associated with the temperature regime through their influence on both woody and annual herbaceous plant richness, and by factors related to the precipitation regime through their influence on perennial herbaceous plant richness, likely due to the differential tolerances of these functional groups to cold and water stress. Our results emphasize the importance of differences in environmental adaptability of the most important life-forms with regard to explaining compositional change (beta diversity) along aridity gradients, and the mediator role of total plant cover in relation to the effects of soil conditions on plant diversity.Ministerio de Ciencia y EducaciónComunidad de MadridUniversité des Sciences et de la Technologie Houari Boumedienn
