    A quantum approach to Laplace operators

    In this paper, a theory of stochastic processes generated by quantum extensions of Laplacians is developed. Representations of the associated heat semigroups are discussed by means of suitable time shifts. In particular the quantum Brownian motion associated to the Levy-Laplacian is obtained as the usual Volterra-Gross Laplacian using the Cesaro Hilbert space as initial space of our process as well as multiplicity space of the associated white noise

    In the present paper we extend the notion of quantum time shift, and the related results obtained in \cite{[abo06]}, from representations of current algebras of the Heisenberg Lie algebra to representations of current algebras of the Oscillator Lie algebra.\\ This produces quantum extensions of a class of classical L\'evy processes much wider than the usual Brownian motion. In particular this class processes includes the Meixner processes and, by an approximation procedure, we construct quantum extensions of all classical L\'evy processes with a L\'evy measure with finite variance. Finally we compute the explicit form of the action, on the Weyl operators of the initial space, of the generators of the quantum Markov processes canonically associated to the above class of L\'evy processes. The emergence of the Meixner classes in connection with the renormalized second order white noise, is now well known. The fact that they also emerge from first order noise in a simple and canonical way, comes somehow as a surprise

    Influence of manufacturing parameters of knitted compression fabric on interface pressure

    The influence of various parameters, such as knitted structure, elastane percentage, elastane yarn count and stitch length,on the interface pressure generated by compression knitted garment has been studied. An experimental device has beendeveloped to measure interface pressure by using a FlexiForce® sensor. The obtained result shows that the pressuregenerated by compression garment depends on the considered parameters. It is observed that plain knitted fabric causes highpressures on leg, generating a high value of interface pressure. Moreover, the increase in elastane percentage and elastaneyarn count cause an increase in interface pressure. Contrariwise, the increase in stitch length generates a decrease ininterface pressure. Mathematical models based on ANOVA analysis are also developed. The validity of these models hasbeen demonstrated using χ2-test

    Macro-and Micro-Expressions Facial Datasets: A Survey

    Automatic facial expression recognition is essential for many potential applications. Thus, having a clear overview on existing datasets that have been investigated within the framework of face expression recognition is of paramount importance in designing and evaluating effective solutions, notably for neural networks-based training. In this survey, we provide a review of more than eighty facial expression datasets, while taking into account both macro-and micro-expressions. The proposed study is mostly focused on spontaneous and in-the-wild datasets, given the common trend in the research is that of considering contexts where expressions are shown in a spontaneous way and in a real context. We have also provided instances of potential applications of the investigated datasets, while putting into evidence their pros and cons. The proposed survey can help researchers to have a better understanding of the characteristics of the existing datasets, thus facilitating the choice of the data that best suits the particular context of their application

    Anatomy of the fruit of the halophyte Crithmum maritimum L. with emphasis on the endosperm structure and histochemistry

    The halophytes are plants that can survive and reproduce under high salinity. They show high potentiality as new crops plant for biosaline agriculture. Crithmum maritimum L. (Apiaceae) is one of the promising halophytes. In this paper, the endosperm structure of the fruit of this oilseeds halophyte was investigated using scanning electrons microscopy (SEM), light microscopy (LM) and fluorescence microscopy (FM). The fruit was composed of a spongy outer coat, a secretory envelope, a thin endocarp reduced to a unicellular layer delimiting the endosperm and an embryo. The endosperm cell appeared limited by thick cell wall and filled with numerous reserve globoids. The histochemical test showed that the cell wall of the endosperm was rich of carbohydrates as revealed by PAS (periodic acid-schiffs). Within the endosperm cells, there were mainly lipid bodies and protein bodies. The starch grains were less abundant. The protein bodies enclose crystal globoids. The x-ray microanalysis revealed that the reserve globoids accumulated mostly Mg, K, Ca, S and P. Taken together, these results highlight the structural features, the biochemical composition and confirm the nutritional quality of C. maritimum L. fruit.Keys words: C. maritimum L., crystal globoids, the endosperm cells, histochemical test, protein bodies, x-ray microanalysis

Son traitement se base essentiellement sur la chirurgie lorsque cela est possible. La radiothérapie est réservée aux formes inopérables localement évoluées et métastatiques.     Low energy measurement of the 7Be(p,gamma)8B cross section

    We have measured the cross section of the 7Be(p,gamma)8B reaction for E_cm = 185.8 keV, 134.7 keV and 111.7 keV using a radioactive 7Be target (132 mCi). Single and coincidence spectra of beta^+ and alpha particles from 8B and 8Be^* decay, respectively, were measured using a large acceptance spectrometer. The zero energy S factor inferred from these data is 18.5 +/- 2.4 eV b and a weighted mean value of 18.8 +/- 1.7 eV b (theoretical uncertainty included) is deduced when combining this value with our previous results at higher energies.Comment: Accepted for publication in Phys.     Nck enables directional cell migration through the coordination of polarized membrane protrusion with adhesion dynamics

    Directional migration requires the coordination of cytoskeletal changes essential for cell polarization and adhesion turnover. Extracellular signals that alter tyrosine phosphorylation drive directional migration by inducing reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton. It is recognized that Nck is an important link between tyrosine phosphorylation and actin dynamics; however, the role of Nck in cytoskeletal remodeling during directional migration and the underlying molecular mechanisms remain largely undetermined. In this study, a combination of molecular genetics and quantitative live cell microscopy was used to show that Nck is essential in the establishment of front-back polarity and directional migration of endothelial cells. Time-lapse differential interference contrast and total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy showed that Nck couples the formation of polarized membrane protrusions with their stabilization through the assembly and maturation of cell-substratum adhesions. Measurements by atomic force microscopy showed that Nck also modulates integrin α5β1-fibronectin adhesion force and cell stiffness. Fluorescence resonance energy transfer imaging revealed that Nck depletion results in delocalized and increased activity of Cdc42 and Rac. By contrast, the activity of RhoA and myosin II phosphorylation were reduced by Nck knockdown. Thus, this study identifies Nck as a key coordinator of cytoskeletal changes that enable cell polarization and directional migration, which are crucial processes in development and disease

    CD81 is dispensable for hepatitis C virus cell-to-cell transmission in hepatoma cells

    Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infects cells by the direct uptake of cell-free virus following virus engagement with specific cell receptors such as CD81. Recent data have shown that HCV is also capable of direct cell-to-cell transmission, although the role of CD81 in this process is disputed. Here, we generated cell culture infectious strain JFH1 HCV (HCVcc) genomes carrying an alanine substitution of E2 residues W529 or D535 that are critical for binding to CD81 and infectivity. Co-cultivation of these cells with naïve cells expressing enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) resulted in a small number of cells co-expressing both EGFP and HCV NS5A, showing that the HCVcc mutants are capable of cell-to-cell spread. In contrast, no cell-to-cell transmission from JFH1ΔE1E2-transfected cells occurred, indicating that the HCV glycoproteins are essential for this process. The frequency of cell-to-cell transmission of JFH1W529A was unaffected by the presence of neutralizing antibodies that inhibit E2–CD81 interactions. By using cell lines that expressed little or no CD81 and that were refractive to infection with cell-free virus, we showed that the occurrence of viral cell-to-cell transmission is not influenced by the levels of CD81 on either donor or recipient cells. Thus, our results show that CD81 plays no role in the cell-to-cell spread of HCVcc and that this mode of transmission is shielded from neutralizing antibodies. These data suggest that therapeutic interventions targeting the entry of cell-free HCV may not be sufficient in controlling an ongoing chronic infection, but need to be complemented by additional strategies aimed at disrupting direct cell-to-cell viral transmission
