    Get PDF
Elemental analysis of waste samples collected from steel products manufacturing plant (SPS) located at industrial city of Jeddah, Saudi-Arabia has been carried out using Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS). The 1064 nm laser radiations from a Nd:YAG laser at an irradiance of 7.6  1010 W cm –2 were used. Atomic emission spectra of the elements present in the waste samples were recorded in the 200 – 620 nm region. Elements such as Fe, W, Ti, Al, Mg, Ca, S, Mn, and Na were detected in these samples. Quantitative determination of the elemental concentration was obtained for these metals against certified standard samples. Parametric dependences of LIBS signal intensity on incident laser energy and time delay between the laser pulse and data acquisition system were also carried out

Testing surface area with arbitrary accuracy

Recently, Kothari et al.\ gave an algorithm for testing the surface area of an arbitrary set A⊂[0,1]nA \subset [0, 1]^n. Specifically, they gave a randomized algorithm such that if AA's surface area is less than SS then the algorithm will accept with high probability, and if the algorithm accepts with high probability then there is some perturbation of AA with surface area at most κnS\kappa_n S. Here, κn\kappa_n is a dimension-dependent constant which is strictly larger than 1 if n≥2n \ge 2, and grows to 4/π4/\pi as n→∞n \to \infty. We give an improved analysis of Kothari et al.'s algorithm. In doing so, we replace the constant κn\kappa_n with 1+η1 + \eta for η>0\eta > 0 arbitrary. We also extend the algorithm to more general measures on Riemannian manifolds.Comment: 5 page

E-government: a new vision for success.

    Get PDF
One of the most important emerging applications of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is e-government. Perceived as providing benefits to the community by overcoming the complexity of bureaucracy, increasing the efficiency of the economy, reducing services' time, and permitting businesses and citizens to connect to government information, it is likely to become a part of life for citizens and businesses. However, the initial push to implement e-government projects resulted in a number of projects that failed, either partially or completely (Heeks, 2003a). A major reason offered for these failures is that governments were applying the conventional ICT project formula to e-government, without consideration of other features that are particular to e-government. E-government has its unique combination of features and characteristics that should be taken into consideration at design and implementation stages to determine its success. The primary aim of this paper is to identify the main characteristics of e-government in order to assess the range of aspects that are likely to affect the success or failure of an e-government project. We begin by setting out the concept of e-government, and its importance in an esociety. Noting the failure rate of e-government projects, we follow with a discussion of Critical Success Factors (CSF’s) – i.e. aspects that must be taken into account to ensure the success of a project. We identify the range of aspects of e-government, and align these to CSF’s. Finally, we argue that current CSF’s in e-government do not take into account the full range of characteristics that apply to this sector, and that new e-government CSF’s are needed in order to improve the success rate of e-government projects

The main elements of the Osiris legend with reference to Plutarch and certain folk-tales

The significance of the figure of Osiris cannot be overemphasized. Architectural remains witness to his importance in the past, and stories about him to the interest he has aroused throughout the Ages. Calris was a historical personage, a king who defied after his death. Osiris, the creator sun-god rules supreme. is a god, Osiris took over the functions of the other created gods of nature. He was water, the 'life of the Soul', or Nun; and earth, the nourieher of the body, or the Primaval Hill. Both created by the Sun ‘at the first time’. With Osiris, Nun became the inuniation or his exudations, and the Hill the land of Egypt or his burial-place. His death was a violent one: by murder and dismemberment, but followed by resurrection, which gave hope to every Osirlan believer. Water was used, which could ritually rejoin the scattered limbs of the deceased, and provide him with the efflux to live again. In the case of be water led sorely to rebirth. Osiris’ death and resurrection are reformed to in the such Osirian narratives as the tale of the two brothers and the story of the blinding of truth, which were in vogue in Pharaonic times. In course of time Osiris won a prominent place in the Egyptian pantheon. When finally Christianity vanquished the ancient religion, certain observances of the Osirian cult were still practices by some Christians in Egypt. The Osiris legend was also interpreted anew by the all-pervading philosophy of Plato. Features of the legend can be traced in certain folk-tales all over the world. These contain the moral: good remains, while evil vanishes. To the Egyptians, Osiris’ death meant Nature’s death, and his revival her revival, and these two vicissitudes were mythopocically understood as the struggle between Osiris and Seth. The conflict was enacted in myster-plays and ritual in ancient and modern Egypt and Greece, and even in Great Britain. If such folk-tales and customs are carefully scrutinized, their patterns reveal the main Osirian elements of death by mutilation, retreat in vegetation and final resurrection by water

The present study examined the morphological features, histological and histochemical aspect of the tongue of two reptilian species, Tarentola annularis (family: Gekkonidae) and Crocodylus niloticus (family: Crocodylidea), with different habitats, feeding patterns and behaviours, by light and scanning electron microscope. It was observed, that the bifurcation of the tongue was more visible in Tarentola annularis. Conical and filamentous papillae were observed on the lingual body of Tarentola annularis, while in Crocodylus niloticus both mechanical filiform and gustatory papillae appeared. The lingual mucosa in Tarentola annularis is covered by stratified squamous epithelium and keratinised but in Crocodylus niloticus it is highly folded and more heavily keratinised in the folded region and have a localised thickenings structure resembling taste buds. Mucous glands appeared in Tarentola annularis and compound tubular glands in Crocodylus niloticus. At scanning electron microscopy, abundant microridges and microvilli in both species were exhibited on papillae surface facilitated feeding habits. Histochemically, the tongue of two species is strongly positive for carbohydrate stain but with variable degree with others stains. In conclusion, there is a marked correlation between the structure of the tongue of the present reptilian species, habitats and feeding mechanism of the two species.

Visualization for Information Retrieval based on Fast Search Technology

    Get PDF
The core of search engine is information retrieval technique. Using information retrieval system backs more retrieval results, some of them more relevant than other, and some is not relevant. While using search engine to retrieve information has grown very substantially, there remain problems with the information retrieval systems. The interface of the systems does not help them to perceive the precision of these results. It is therefore not surprising that graphical visualizations have been employed in search engines to assist users. The main objective of Internet users is to find the required information with high efficiency and effectiveness. In this paper we present brief sides of information visualization's role in enhancing web information retrieval system as in some of its techniques such as tree view, title view, map view, bubble view and cloud view and its tools such as highlighting and Colored Query Result

Implementing of RCPs scenarios to estimate the population density of parlatoria date scale insect, Parlatoria blanchardii (Targioni-Tozzetti) (Hemiptera: Diaspididae) infesting date palm trees in Luxor Governorate, Egypt

    Get PDF
The present work was carried out to study the effect of some climatic factors on the population density of the white date palm scale insect, Parlatoria blanchardii on date palm trees during three time series (2011-2040, 2041-2070 and 2071-2100) under four Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) scenarios (2.6, 4.5, 6.0 and 8.5) as compared with the current population of the pest (average of population density from 2009 to 2013 years) at Esna district, Luxor Governorate, Egypt. Results showed that monthly observations of total population of P. blanchardii had three to four peaks of seasonal activity per year. The mean minimum temperature was the most effective variable in population changes by 18.9, 20.9 and 19.9% for nymphs, adult females and total population of P. blanchardii during the base year data, respectively. The obtained results revealed the all expected values for number of nymphs, adult females and total population of insect during the all different time series under all different RCPs scenarios were smaller in comparison to the current population of insect. Expected total population of insect will be smaller at time series of (2071-2100) as compared with the two time series of (2041-2070) and (2011-2040) under the scenarios of (RCP 4.5, RCP 6 and RCP 8.5). Also, the time series of (2071-2100) exhibited the highest percentage of decreasing of the number of nymphs, adult females and total population with an average of (25.84, 23.76 and 24.91%) as compared to the time series of 2040-2071 (24.68, 22.44 and 23.68%) and the time series of 2011-2040 (10.43, 10.17 and 10.31%), respectively. Furthermore, the RCP 8.5 scenario exhibit the highest population density of nymphs, adult females and total population P. blanchardii and the lowest decreasing percentage of population density of P. blanchardii as compared with the different RCPs during all different time series.

Sharp estimates on the first eigenvalue of the p-Laplacian with negative Ricci lower bound

We complete the picture of sharp eigenvalue estimates for the p-Laplacian on a compact manifold by providing sharp estimates on the first nonzero eigenvalue of the nonlinear operator Δp\Delta_p when the Ricci curvature is bounded from below by a negative constant. We assume that the boundary of the manifold is convex, and put Neumann boundary conditions on it. The proof is based on a refined gradient comparison technique and a careful analysis of the underlying model spaces.Comment: Sign mistake fixed in the proof of the gradient comparison theorem (theorem 5.1 pag 10), and some minor improvements aroun
