    A Unified Account of Three Uses of Dou

    Get PDF
    This paper gives a unified account of the distributive, occasion andcumulative readings of dou in the framework of event semantics, the last of whichis rarely discussed in the literature. Previous analyses on dou will be shown tohave difficulties capturing the cumulative reading (Lin 1998; Liu 2017). Following Champollion's analysis of distance distributive items, I analyze dou as a distributorover events. What's inside the scope of dou is the description of the subevents and what's outside the scope of dou is the description of the mereological sum event.This analysis can capture the three uses of dou and adds dou to the category ofdistance distributive items surveyed in Champollion (2016)

    Supplement-Duo Modules

    In this note we consider a generalization of the notion of duo modules namely supplement duo modules. where an R module M is called a supplement duo module if every supplement submodule of M is a fully invariant. Many results about this concept are given. Also we study when the direct sum of supplement duo modules is supplement duo,and relationships between a supplement dou module and other modules

    Superconducting Gap and Pseudogap in Bi-2212

    Full text link
    We present results of Raman scattering experiments in differently doped Bi-2212 single crystals. Below Tc the spectra show pair-breaking features in the whole doping range. The low frequency power laws confirm the existence of a dx2−y2d_{x^2-y^2}-wave order parameter. In the normal state between Tc and T* = 200K we find evidence for a pseudogap in B2g symmetry. Upon doping its effect on the spectra decreases while its energy scale appears to be unchanged.Comment: 2 pages, 1 EPS figure; LT22 Proceedings to appear in Physica

    Mass renormalisation for improved staggered quarks

    Get PDF
    Improved staggered quark actions are designed to suppress flavour changing strong interactions. We discuss the perturbation theory for this type of actions and show the improvements to reduce the quark mass renormalisation compared to naive staggered quarks. The renormalisations are of similar size as for Wilson quarks.Comment: LaTeX, 3 pages, Lattice2001(spectrum

    Shoulder and hip joint for hard space suits

    Get PDF
    Shoulder and hip joints for hard space suits are disclosed which are comprised of three serially connected truncated spherical sections, the ends of which converge. Ball bearings between the sections permit relative rotation. The proximal end of the first section is connected to the torso covering by a ball bearing and the distal end of the outermost section is connected to the elbow or thigh covering by a ball bearing. The sections are equi-angular and this alleviates lockup, the condition where the distal end of the joint leaves the plane in which the user is attempting to flex. The axes of rotation of the bearings and the bearing mid planes are arranged to intersect in a particular manner that provides the joint with a minimum envelope. In one embodiment, the races of the bearing between the innermost section and the second section is partially within the inner race of the bearing between the torso and the innermost spherical section further to reduce bulk

    Low temperature specific heat of the heavy fermion superconductor PrOs4_4Sb12_{12}

    Full text link
    We report the magnetic field dependence of the low temperature specific heat of single crystals of the first Pr-based heavy fermion superconductor PrOs4_4Sb12_{12}. The low temperature specific heat and the magnetic phase diagram inferred from specific heat, resistivity and magnetisation provide compelling evidence of a doublet ground state and hence superconductivity mediated by quadrupolar fluctuations. This establishes PrOs4_4Sb12_{12} as a very strong contender of superconductive pairing that is neither electron-phonon nor magnetically mediated.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
