Non-radial pulsations in the Be/X binaries 4U0115+63 and SAXJ2103.5+4545

The discovery of non-radial pulsations (NRP) in the Be/X binaries of the Magellanic Clouds (MC, eg. Fabrycky 2005, Coe et al. 2005, Schmidtke & Cowley 2005) provided a new approach to understand these complex systems, and, at the same time, favoured the synergy between two different fields: stellar pulsations and X-ray binaries. This breakthrough was possible thanks to the MACHO and OGLE surveys. However, in our Galaxy, only two Be/X have been reported to show NRP: GROJ2058+42 (Kiziloglu et al. 2007) and LSI+61 235 (Sarty et al. 2009). Our objective is to study the short-term variability of Galactic Be/X binaries, compare them to the Be/X of the MC and to the isolated Galactic Be observed with CoRoT and Kepler. Entre el discurso historiográfico y la escritura íntima: otra Javiera Carrera que emerge, vive y siente

The liberal historiography of the XIX built an imaginary around Javiera Carrera, which was limited to a pasive role, something very typical of the woman of this period and that lets out others behaviors. From this premise, and focused on History of Mentalities, this study has the aim to reconstruct the symbolic repertoire about the body of Javiera, as a woman absorbed in a national independence context. Through her letters it is possible to elucidate how she was placed or presented in front of the period's facts, mainly from the perspective of the body and emotions, as a woman who lives and feels.    La historiografía liberal del siglo XIX construyó un imaginario en torno a Javiera Carrera, limitado a un rol pasivo, propio de la mujer del periodo, dejando de lado otro tipo de accionar. A partir de esta primicia, y desde un enfoque de historia de las mentalidades, este estudio tiene por objetivo la reconstrucción del repertorio simbólico operante sobre el cuerpo de Javiera, como mujer inmersa en el contexto independista a través de sus cartas, para dilucidar cómo se posiciona o autorepresenta frente a los hechos del periodo, principalmente desde una perspectiva del cuerpo y las emociones, en cuanto mujer que vive y siente.  

Evaluating the Interest of Revamping Past Search Results

International audienceIn this paper we present two contributions: a method to construct simulated document collections suitable for information retrieval evaluation as well as an approach of information retrieval using past queries and based on result combination. Exponential and Zipf distribution as well as Bradford’s law are applied to construct simulated document collections suitable for information retrieval evaluation. Experiments comparing a traditional retrieval approach with our approach based on past queries using past queries show encouraging improvements using our approach

Conflicto armado, paz y género desde los discursos de la memoria histórica como estrategia didáctica para el desarrollo del pensamiento crítico en la educación media

El presente trabajo investigativo se centra en la elaboración y aplicación de una Unidad Didáctica conformada por tres secuencias que pretenden contribuir al desarrollo del pensamiento crítico en los estudiantes de la Educación Media, otorgando un papel preponderante a las nuevas formas de la enseñanza de la Historia en las aulas escolares. Para ello, se utilizan algunas temáticas asociadas al Conflicto Armado colombiano, teniendo en cuenta la perspectiva de género desde La Memoria Histórica y los procesos de paz, como herramientas didácticas en la enseñanza de las Ciencias Sociales. La actual experiencia transcurrió en tres instituciones educativas del departamento de Risaralda; dos (2) en el municipio de Santa Rosa De cabal y una (1) en Dosquebradas. Su importancia radicó en que, después de aplicadas las secuencias, se evidenciaron cambios paulatinos en la apropiación del pensamiento crítico social de los estudiantes, quienes dieron diversas perspectivas frente a temas relacionados con el conflicto armado colombiano: las víctimas, la memoria, la Cátedra de la Paz, la historia, las violencias y el género, temáticas presentes en los planes de área de los de grados Décimo y Undécimo (10° y 11°), respectivamente. Asimismo, se fueron desvelando cambios en los órdenes individuales y grupales, específicamente en temas relacionados con los derechos humanos, violencias, Conflicto armado, proceso de paz, género, autopercepciones y empoderamiento. De igual manera, hubo transformaciones más generales, en prácticas asociadas a las realidades de las aulas escolares, entre ellas la exclusión, el estigma y el bullying escolar frente a jóvenes con identidades sexuales diversas y a dinámicas sociales como el desplazamiento forzado o la discriminación. De igual forma tales como distintas violencias de género y conflictos barriales, a la vez el reconocimiento reflexivo de las violencias locales, como consecuencia de la historia del Conflicto Armado Colombiano

Non-radial Pulsations in the Open Cluster NGC 3766

Non-radial pulsations (NRPs) are a proposed mechanism for the formation of decretion disks around Be stars and are important tools to study the internal structure of stars. NGC 3766 has an unusually large fraction of transient Be stars, so it is an excellent location to study the formation mechanism of Be star disks. High resolution spectroscopy can reveal line profile variations from NRPs, allowing measurements of both the degree, l, and azimuthal order, m. However, spectroscopic studies require large amounts of time with large telescopes to achieve the necessary high S/N and time domain coverage. On the other hand, multi-color photometry can be performed more easily with small telescopes to measure l only. Here, we present representative light curves of Be stars and non-emitting B stars in NGC 3766 from the CTIO 0.9m telescope in an effort to study NRPs in this cluster.Comment: 4 pages, to appear in the proceedings of IAU Symposium 266: Star Cluster
