Analysis of scientific production in handball in journals of web of science

El objetivo de esta investigación fue analizar las contribuciones científicas cuyo objeto de estudio era el balonmano publicadas en revistas indexadas en la Web of Science. La búsqueda se realizó durante el mes de mayo de 2014. Las variables analizadas fueron: a) Año de publicación; b) Área de investigación; c) Categorías de Web Science; d) Revista dónde se publica; e) Países de origen de los autores; y f) Instituciones a las que pertenece al autor. Se recogieron 366 artículos. La producción en balonmano ha ido creciendo anualmente. España es el país que más aportaciones realiza, sitúa a dos Universidades nacionales entre las más productivas y una revista de edición española está entre la que más artículos ha publicado. La orientación de las revistas que más publican está diversificada, existiendo publicaciones con un carácter médico y otras más específicas en deporte.The aim of this research was to analyze the scientific contributions whose subject of study was handball and which were published in journals index-linked in Web of Science. The search was conducted in May 2014. The variables analyzed were: a) year of publication; b) research area; c) Web Science categories; d) Journal in which it is published; e) authors' country of origin; and f) Institutions to which the authors belong. 366 articles were compiled. The handball research publication has been growing yearly. Spain is the country which contributes the most and two of their universities are among the most productive ones. A Spanish journal is among the ones which have published most of the articles. The standpoint of the journals which publish the most is diversified: there are journals that have a medical approach and others that are more sport-focused.peerReviewe

Determination of the home advantage in handball Olympic Games and European Championships

Home advantage (HA) has typically been focused in competitions in which the same number of home games and away games are played, but it should be noted that there are other competitions that take place at the home of only one organizer. In this study, 2,758 games of handball were analyzed. The variables registered were the number of games won, the number of games drawn, the number of games lost, the number of goals scored, the number of goals against and the gender of the competitors. The significance of the level of advantage in playing at home was calculated for the variable of points obtained, assuming the null hypothesis that playing at home has no advantage. The Wilcoxon signed rank was used to contrast home advantage signification. The advantage of playing at home and the advantage of playing away in male and female competitions were compared using the Mann–Whitney test. The significance of the difference between the goals (both scored by and scored against) when a team played at home or played away from home was determined using t tests. Pearson and Spearman bivariate correlations were used to establish the level of association between the classification of a team and the number of points obtained as a result of the advantage of playing at home. No significant advantage to playing at home in the Olympic Games or European Championships was found for either gender. However, a direct association exists between playing at home and the points obtained in a competition. There is also a significant inverse association between playing at home and the final classification of a team

Validation of the questionnaire "focus of attention for handball trainers in video analysis"

El uso del método Delphi es indicado para la elaboración de cuestionarios sobre un tema objeto de estudio en el que no hay mucho conocimiento anterior. Partiendo de una idea inicial, un grupo de 10 expertos en balonmano realizaron una serie de propuestas de modificación hasta llegar a un cuestionario final consensuado de 34 ítems, con preguntas relacionadas con las cuatro fases del juego existente en balonmano. Dicho estudio se pasó a una muestra de 134 entrenadores de cuatro países, verificando la validación del cuestionario. Los entrenadores de balonmano dan mayor importancia en los análisis con vídeo a las fases del juego de ataque y defensa organizada.The use of the Delphi method is indicated for the elaboration of questionnaires on a subject of study, which until now has little known information about it. Starting on an initial proposal, a group of 10 experts in handball made a series of modification proposals until a final questionnaire was agreed of 34 items, with questions related with the four phases of the game that exist in handball. The questionnaire was given to 134 trainers from four different countries, verifying the validation of the questionnaire. Influencia del año de nacimientode una jugadora en las posibilidades de ser captada como talento en el balonmano femenino internacional

Los Campeonatos del Mundo de balonmano los organiza la International Handball Federation (IHF). En las categorías júnior y juvenil establece los grupos de participantes basándose en la adscripción de los deportistas nacidos en dos años seguidos a una misma categoría, iniciando el corte en los nacidos en año par y debiendo permanecer durante dos años en la misma categoría. La muestra la componen 1.049 jugadoras de balonmano que disputaron el Campeonato del Mundo de su categoría, disputado en el 2009 en categoría sénior y en el 2010 en categoría júnior y juvenil. Las variables registradas fueron el año de nacimiento, el género y el nivel de la competición. El estudio tomó como referencia si el deportista nació en año par o impar. Las diferencias entre la proporción de deportistas nacidos en año par o en año impar se calculó mediante la prueba binomial contrastando la proporción del 50 %. No se encontraron diferencias significativas en las categorías sénior. En la categoría júnior y juvenil se encontraron más jugadoras nacidas en año par que en año impar, con diferencias muy significativas

Constituent year effect in international handball at high level

The criterion used by the International Handball Federation for the admission of participants in the Championships at junior levels is based on the ascription of players born during two consecutive years in the same category, moving afterwards this period of two years have finished, all together to next category. The sample is composed of 2,117 handball players. The data collected for the analysis were taken in base to the gender, born date and the level of the competition. Differences among this two has been calculated through the binomial test, comparing equal proportion. There weren’t significant differences found between male and female senior categories, although in all categories more players have been found, with very significant differences, born in even-numbered years than in odd years

Use of the effectiveness of the game situations in inequality numerical in handball as predictive value of the final score

El objetivo de este estudio es valorar la influencia de las acciones ofensivas desarrolladas en el marco situacional de desigualdad numérica en el resultado final de un partido de balonmano, para lo que se calculó la eficacia de las mismas aplicando tres coeficientes de eficacia para la fase ofensiva y tres para la fase defensiva en una muestra de 20 partidos de máximo nivel, correspondientes a los Campeonatos de Europa de Balonmano celebrados en Suecia (2002) y Eslovenia (2004) y el Campeonato del Mundo celebrado en Portugal (2003). Para encontrar diferencias significativas se aplicó una prueba T para muestras relacionadas, calculando las diferencias entre los valores de las dos variables. Para cada pareja de variables se midió la correlación y la diferencia promedio entre las medias. Ninguno de los coeficientes mostró una diferencia significativa en las situaciones de superioridad numérica, por lo que se podría decir que las acciones desarrolladas en este marco situacional no parecen tener influencia en el resultado final de un partido de balonmano masculino de alto nivel. En las situaciones de inferioridad numérica, tanto los coeficientes de eficacia ofensiva (CEOINET, CROINET) como los coeficientes de eficacia defensiva (CEDSNET y CRDSNET), son predictores de la condición de ganador.The aim of this study is to assess the influence of offensive actions taken under situational numerical inequality in the final score of a game of handball, for which efficacy was calculated using three coefficients of efficiency on the offensive phase and three on the defense phase in a sample of 20 games at the highest level, played in the European Handball Championship held in Sweden (2002) and in Slovenia (2004) and in the World Handball Championship held in Portugal (2003). To find significant differences was applied test T-samples, calculating the differences between the values of the two variables and for each pair of variables measured the correlation and the average difference between the means. None of the rates used showed a significant difference in position of superior numbers, so you could say that the actions in this situational context does not seem to influence the outcome of a game of high-level male handball. In numerical disadvantage both offensive efficiency ratios (CEOINET, CROINET) and defensive effectiveness ratios (CEDSNET and CRDSNET) are predictors of winning status.peerReviewe

Integrated tsunami vulnerability and risk assessment: application to the coastal area of El Salvador

ABSTRACT. Advances in the understanding and prediction of tsunami impacts allow for the development of risk reduction strategies for tsunami-prone areas. This paper presents a tsunami vulnerability and risk assessment for the case study of El Salvador, the applied methodology dealing with the complexity and variability of coastal zones by means of (i) an integral approach to cover the entire risk-related process from the hazard, vulnerability and risk assessments to the final risk management; (ii) an integrated approach to combine and aggregate the information stemming from the different dimensions of coupled human and natural systems; and (iii) a dynamic and scale-dependent approach to integrate the spatiotemporal variability considerations. This work also aims at establishing a clear connection to translate the vulnerability and risk assessment results into adequate target-oriented risk reduction measures, trying to bridge the gap between science and management for the tsunami hazard. The approach is applicable to other types of hazards, having been successfully applied to climate-change-related flooding hazard
