Istraživanje značenja pojma slobodnog vremena među turskim studentima
Research about leisure and its meanings from cultural perspectives is receiving more and more attention. The purpose of this study is to explore the meanings of leisure and preferred recreational activities among Turkish students. A sample of 691 university students completed a survey about leisure meanings and preferred recreational activities. As a new concept in Turkey, leisure is found to be associated most with subscales related to work, perceived competence, social interaction, and perceived freedom. Particular activities are also associated with specific meanings subscales. Individuals participating in sports, social activities, and outdoor recreation are more likely to see perceived competence as important. Opportunities for active and passive activities are associated most often with sports, outdoor, cultural arts, and tourism activities. Results suggest that although broad meanings of leisure are important, specific activities may make the meanings more salient in a cultural context.Istraživanje slobodnog vremena i njegovih značenja iz kulturalne perspektive dobiva sve više pozornosti. Svrha ove studije jest istražiti značenja slobodnog vremena i rekreacijskih aktivnosti među turskim studentima.

Quiet and blessed: rural tourism experience and visitor satisfaction in the shadow of Covid-19 and beyond
Rural tourism has an increasing share of the country's tourism income and significantly contributes to the rural economy. Intensive research has been conducted on how Covid-19 affects the tourism industry and the challenges and opportunities the sector face. Although the rise of rural tourism is frequently highlighted post-Covid-19, research examining the satisfaction levels of visitors involved in rural tourism is almost nonexistent. The study's main aim is to determine customers' satisfaction levels from rural activities in and around the İznik District of Bursa province and to recommend improvement. We obtained data from a structured survey conducted with 408 people who visited İznik at least once. SPSS 23 program was also used to analyze the data obtained. Results show that visitors' satisfaction with nature and the environment is above average, and their satisfaction with the services provided is below average. The most critical dissatisfaction was the increasing environmental pollution, the loss of natural beauty, the local government's inability to do the necessary cleaning and maintenance work, and the lack of introductory information in places with historical and natural characteristics. Participants wanted to stay in caravans and tents rather than hotels and suggested expanding and improving those facilities. They suggested that local textures are preserved, and more local food and beverages are offered. The suggestion shows that visitors demand integrating more with nature, local life and historical texture
Exercise participation motives: A case of Turkish participants
WOS: 000300336900003The purpose of this study was to examine the factors that motivate individuals to participate in exercise and to test the differences in exercise participation motives with regard to selected demographic variables (i.e., gender, age, frequency of facility use, and level of education). One hundred and ninety male and 256 female exercisers participated in this study. The Recreational Exercise Motivation Measure (REMM) was administered to all participants. Descriptive analyses revealed that health, appearance and skill development were the three most important motives for all participants. The analyses indicated significant gender and age differences in health motives. Furthermore, results revealed significant differences in mean scores of the health and appearance subscales with regard to the frequency of facility use. As a result, it can be concluded that health, appearance and skill development were the most important motives for all participants
Management and re-organization of an academic library in continuously changing environment
As the proportion of library activities goes worldwide more digital, less work is needed for physical collection management and circulation, more work is related to digital resource management and navigation. Providing access to electronic resources has a big impact on library operations. A number of organizational changes have been implemented according to new library operations and services. Changes in workloads and work processes led to restructuring. On the other side the economic profile of the library is changing in direction of fewer acquisitions, more licensing, greater infrastructure costs, better equipped and multi skilled, flexible staff. Staff training and team working became more important than before. New responsibilities are delegated and team work was encouraged. In this talk, we present the impact of all these developments on the management of the Middle East Technical University Library and new ways of evaluating and assessing these changes

Work hard, play hard: Leisure satisfaction and work engagement among Turkish women
Gurbuz, Bulent/0000-0003-2424-2111WOS: 000494429100002PubMed: 31476192BACKGROUND: Previous studies have found physical activity to be associated with decreased organizational cynicism and low performance OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine work engagement and leisure satisfaction in Turkish women with regard to recreational physical activity participation and marital status, and to test the relationship between age and work experience, work engagement and leisure satisfaction. METHODS: Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) and Leisure Satisfaction Scale (LSS) were administered to assess women workers' work engagement and leisure satisfaction. The sample for this project consisted of 317 women workers living in Turkey Ankara. RESULTS: The analysis indicated that there were statistically significant differences in all sub-dimensions of UWES and LSS between single and married participants, with single participants having higher mean scores. There were also statistically significant differences in "vigor" and "dedication" sub-dimensions of UWES, and in all sub-dimensions of LSS regarding to recreational physical activity participation. The results demonstrated that the mean scores of physically active women are higher than the non-active group. CONCLUSIONS: As a result, the data points to exercise participation as a rich source of information about work engagement and leisure satisfaction, and the positive use of leisure counseling as a work engagement
Laparoscopic colon resection in patients with situs inversus totalis: Is it the same operation as in patients without situs inversus totalis?
Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is a rare condition. In this case, a patient who underwent laparoscopic anterior resection for repeated sigmoid colon diverticulitis with SIT was presented. Laparoscopy surgery in patients with this condition has some important technical differences than standard laparoscopic procedures. Therefore, it may be more appropriate to request surgical experience to perform safe laparoscopic surgery in patients with SIT
Laparoscopic Treatment of the Isolated Renal Hydatid Cyst: Long-Term Outcomes from a Single Institution
Objective: To determine the effectiveness of treatment via laparoscopic approach and to present the long-term outcomes in patients with isolated renal hydatid cyst. Materials and Methods: We reviewed the data of 11 patients who underwent laparoscopic treatment for isolated renal hydatid cyst between March 2004 and January 2017. Demographic characteristics and clinical, laboratory, and radiological findings of cases were examined. Mann-Whitney U and t-test were used in statistical analysis. Results: The mean age of the patients was 36.7 years (25-51). The common complaint of the patients was lumbar pain and 9 patients had a palpable mass. It was identified that serologic evaluation of Echinococcus granulosus was positive in 5 patients. The mean cyst size was determined as 72mm (40-150). The mean operation time was 128 minutes (120-150) while the length of hospital stay was 4 days (3-13). Perioperative major complication was not observed in any of the patients. The levels of hematocrit and creatinine were measured, 37.8 (26-43) and 0.93 (0.5-1.3), respectively, in the postoperative period, while these levels were 39 (26-45) and 0.90 (0.5-1.3) in the preoperative period and there was no statistically significant difference (P>.05). The mean follow-up time was 84 months (40-166). No relapses were observed in any patients. Conclusions: The treatment of renal hydatid cyst disease with laparoscopic approach is a safe and effective method. There was no recurrence in any of the patients in the long-term period. Further studies including a large series of patients are needed
