    An image reconstruction algorithm based on the semiparametric model for electrical capacitance tomography

    AbstractElectrical capacitance tomography (ECT) is considered as a promising tomography technology, and exactly reconstructing the original objects is highly desirable in real applications. In this paper, a generalized image reconstruction model that simultaneously considers the inaccurate property in the measured capacitance data and the linearization approximation error is presented. A generalized objective function, which has been developed using a combinational M-estimation and an extended stabilizing item, is proposed. The objective function unifies six estimation methods into a concise formula, where different estimation methods can be easily obtained by selecting different parameters. The homotopy method that integrates the beneficial advantages of the alternant iteration scheme is employed to solve the proposed objective function. Numerical simulations are implemented to evaluate the numerical performances and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, and the numerical results reveal that the proposed algorithm is efficient and overcomes the numerical instability in the process of ECT image reconstruction. For the reconstructed objects in this paper, a dramatic improvement in accuracy and spatial resolution can be achieved, which indicates that the proposed algorithm is a promising candidate for solving ECT inverse problems

    Applicability of perturbative QCD to Λb→Λc\Lambda_b \to \Lambda_c decays

    We develop perturbative QCD factorization theorem for the semileptonic heavy baryon decay Λb→Λclνˉ\Lambda_b \to \Lambda_c l\bar{\nu}, whose form factors are expressed as the convolutions of hard bb quark decay amplitudes with universal Λb\Lambda_b and Λc\Lambda_c baryon wave functions. Large logarithmic corrections are organized to all orders by the Sudakov resummation, which renders perturbative expansions more reliable. It is observed that perturbative QCD is applicable to Λb→Λc\Lambda_b \to \Lambda_c decays for velocity transfer greater than 1.2. Under requirement of heavy quark symmetry, we predict the branching ratio B(Λb→Λclνˉ)∼2B(\Lambda_b \to \Lambda_c l{\bar\nu})\sim 2%, and determine the Λb\Lambda_b and Λc\Lambda_c baryon wave functions.Comment: 12 pages in Latex file, 3 figures in postscript files, some results are changed, but the conclusion is the sam

    Investigation on wear and rolling contact fatigue of wheel-rail materials under various wheel/rail hardness ratio and creepage conditions

    The wear and rolling contact fatigue of wheel-rail materials were investigated through varying wheel/rail hardness ratios (Hw/Hr) and creepages. The results indicated that with the Hw/Hr increasing from 0.927 to 1.218, the wheel wear rate reduced significantly in the case of Hw/Hr = 1.218, the rail wear rate showed an increasing trend. Both the wheel and rail wear rates increased as the creepage enlarged. The synergistic results of Hw/Hr and creepage caused a transition of the wear and damage mechanisms on the wheel-rail steels. Besides, the fatigue damage of ER7 and CL60 wheel materials was dominated by slender multi-layer cracks, while the fatigue cracks were short and contained lots of interlayer broken materials on C-class wheel steel

    Crystal structure, impedance and broadband dielectric spectra of ordered scheelite-structured Bi(Sc1/3Mo2/3)O4 ceramic

    Bi(Sc 1/3 Mo 2/3 )O 4 ceramics were prepared via solid state reaction method. It crystallized with an ordered scheelite-related structure (a = 16.9821(9) Å, b = 11.6097(3) Å, c = 5.3099(3) Å and β = 104.649(2)°) with a space group C12/C1, in which Bi 3+ , Sc 3+ and Mo 6+ are -8, -6 and -4 coordinated, respectively. Bi(Sc 1/3 Mo 2/3 )O 4 ceramics were densifiedat 915 °C, giving a permittivity (ε r ) 24.4, quality factor (Qf, Q = 1/dielectric loss, f = resonant frequency) ~48, 100 GHz and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (TCF) -68 ppm/°C. Impedance spectroscopy revealed that there was only a bulk response for conductivity with activation energy (E a ) ~0.97 eV, suggesting the compound is electrically and chemically homogeneous. Wide band dielectric spectra were employed to study the dielectric response of Bi(Sc 1/3 Mo 2/3 )O 4 from 20 Hz to 30 THz. ε r was stable from 20 Hz to the GHz region, in which only ionic and electron displacive polarization contributed to the ε r

    We study cosmological solutions in the effective heterotic string theory with α′\alpha'-correction terms in string frame. It is pointed out that the effective theory has an ambiguity via field redefinition and we analyze generalized effective theories due to this ambiguity. We restrict our analysis to the effective theories which give equations of motion of second order in the derivatives, just as "Galileon" field theory. This class of effective actions contains two free coupling constants. We find de Sitter solutions as well as the power-law expanding universes in our four-dimensional Einstein frame.     Comparison of wear and rolling contact fatigue behaviours of bainitic and pearlitic rails under various rolling-sliding conditions

    Rolling-sliding wear experiments were performed to investigate the wear and rolling contact fatigue (RCF) behaviours of a premium pearlitic rail (PH), a carbon-free bainitic rail (BH) and two standard pearlitic rails (U71Mn and U75V). The wear regime and RCF damage evolution of the PH and BH materials in terms of Tγ/A (i.e. creepages and contact pressures) were compared and analyzed. The high-hardness BH steel presented a wear resistance similar to U71Mn and U75V rail materials, whereas lower wear rate was shown by the PH steel. Concerning the RCF performance, the damage of BH steel (comparable to U75V) was more severe than that of PH steel (comparable to U71Mn). Finally, with the increase in creepages and pressures, the wear and RCF damage of both PH and BH steels increased. These information could provide a guide in choosing rail materials and in development of bainitic rails

    We report on a search for the decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c., J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e + c.c., and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e- + c.c. in a sample of 5.8 * 10^7 J/Psi events collected with the BESII detector at the BEPC. No excess of signal above background is observed, and 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions are set: B(J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c.)<4.8*10^-5, B(J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e + c.c.)     Based on a sample of 5.8X 10^7 J/psi events taken with the BESII detector, the branching fractions of J/psi--> 2(pi+pi-)eta and J/psi-->3(pi+pi-)eta are measured for the first time to be (2.26+-0.08+-0.27)X10^{-3} and (7.24+-0.96+-1.11)X10^{-4}, respectively.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure

    The energy spectrum of all-particle cosmic rays around the knee region observed with the Tibet-III air-shower array

    We have already reported the first result on the all-particle spectrum around the knee region based on data from 2000 November to 2001 October observed by the Tibet-III air-shower array. In this paper, we present an updated result using data set collected in the period from 2000 November through 2004 October in a wide range over 3 decades between 101410^{14} eV and 101710^{17} eV, in which the position of the knee is clearly seen at around 4 PeV. The spectral index is -2.68 ±\pm 0.02(stat.) below 1PeV, while it is -3.12 ±\pm 0.01(stat.) above 4 PeV in the case of QGSJET+HD model, and various systematic errors are under study now.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures, accepted by Advances in space researc
