    An improved bipolar-type AC-AC converter topology based on non-differential dual-buck PWM AC choppers

    A novel single-phase pulse width modulation (PWM) direct ac-ac converter based on two-level non-differential dual-buck ac chopper legs with inverting and non-inverting operations is first proposed in this paper. It has the ability to resolve both voltage sag and swell problems at the same time when used as distributed flexible voltage conditioner (DFVC).Compared to the traditional ac-ac converter, it has much enhanced system reliability thanks to no shoot-through problems even when all switches of each ac chopper legs are turned on, and therefore, the PWM dead-time is not needed leading to improving the utilization of the duty cycles. Only half of the switches in the proposed converter are switched at high frequency during a switching period at most, which significantly reduces the total switching loss. In particularly, the converter has two greatest advantages that it retains the common sharing ground of the input and output and has the same buck/boost operation process for non-inverting and inverting modes. In order to fully testify the performance of the proposed converter, a 500W experimental prototype is built and tested at different conditions

    Optimal Multi-Stage Arrhythmia Classification Approach

    Arrhythmia constitutes a problem with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat, and an early diagnosis is essential for the timely inception of successful treatment. We have jointly optimized the entire multi-stage arrhythmia classification scheme based on 12-lead surface ECGs that attains the accuracy performance level of professional cardiologists. The new approach is comprised of a three-step noise reduction stage, a novel feature extraction method and an optimal classification model with finely tuned hyperparameters. We carried out an exhaustive study comparing thousands of competing classification algorithms that were trained on our proprietary, large and expertly labeled dataset consisting of 12-lead ECGs from 40,258 patients with four arrhythmia classes: atrial fibrillation, general supraventricular tachycardia, sinus bradycardia and sinus rhythm including sinus irregularity rhythm. Our results show that the optimal approach consisted of Low Band Pass filter, Robust LOESS, Non Local Means smoothing, a proprietary feature extraction method based on percentiles of the empirical distribution of ratios of interval lengths and magnitudes of peaks and valleys, and Extreme Gradient Boosting Tree classifier, achieved an F1-Score of 0.988 on patients without additional cardiac conditions. The same noise reduction and feature extraction methods combined with Gradient Boosting Tree classifier achieved an F1-Score of 0.97 on patients with additional cardiac conditions. Our method achieved the highest classification accuracy (average 10-fold cross-validation F1-Score of 0.992) using an external validation data, MIT-BIH arrhythmia database. The proposed optimal multi-stage arrhythmia classification approach can dramatically benefit automatic ECG data analysis by providing cardiologist level accuracy and robust compatibility with various ECG data sources

    The Genome of Ganderma lucidum Provide Insights into Triterpense Biosynthesis and Wood Degradation

    BACKGROUND: Ganoderma lucidum (Reishi or Ling Zhi) is one of the most famous Traditional Chinese Medicines and has been widely used in the treatment of various human diseases in Asia countries. It is also a fungus with strong wood degradation ability with potential in bioenergy production. However, genes, pathways and mechanisms of these functions are still unknown. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: The genome of G. lucidum was sequenced and assembled into a 39.9 megabases (Mb) draft genome, which encoded 12,080 protein-coding genes and ∼83% of them were similar to public sequences. We performed comprehensive annotation for G. lucidum genes and made comparisons with genes in other fungi genomes. Genes in the biosynthesis of the main G. lucidum active ingredients, ganoderic acids (GAs), were characterized. Among the GAs synthases, we identified a fusion gene, the N and C terminal of which are homologous to two different enzymes. Moreover, the fusion gene was only found in basidiomycetes. As a white rot fungus with wood degradation ability, abundant carbohydrate-active enzymes and ligninolytic enzymes were identified in the G. lucidum genome and were compared with other fungi. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: The genome sequence and well annotation of G. lucidum will provide new insights in function analyses including its medicinal mechanism. The characterization of genes in the triterpene biosynthesis and wood degradation will facilitate bio-engineering research in the production of its active ingredients and bioenergy

    How Does Government Accounting Supervision Affect Earnings Management?

     This paper explores the effectiveness of supervision in curbing local firms' earnings management and its underlying mechanism. It was found that the impact is particularly pronounced in provinces with severe GDP exacerbation, provincial governors facing impending promotion, firms controlled by the government, and firms with weak external monitoring. The findings of this study highlight the importance of addressing the agency problem between the central and local governments in authoritarian regimes in the context of curbing firms’ earnings manipulation to improve capital market efficiency. We recommend the implementation of a more comprehensive strategy to improve the reliability of firms' financial reporting quality with the aim of improving the efficiency of capital markets in the long run. On the other hand, since external monitoring plays a significant role in preventing local firms from engaging in earnings management, we recommend that new policies be introduced to encourage more institutional investment in listed firms

    Investigation on steady and unsteady performance of a SCO2 centrifugal compressor with splitters

    Supercritical carbon dioxide (SCO2 ) is widely concerned with its excellent physical properties. Its high density helps to achieve a compact mechanical structure, especially in all kinds of turbomachinery. In this paper, a SCO2 centrifugal compressor with splitter blades is displayed and numerically investigated. A thorough numerical analysis of the steady and unsteady performance of this SCO2 centrifugal compressor is performed in ANSYS-CFX with SST turbulence model. Streamlines, pressure and temperature under steady- and unsteady-state are compared and analyzed. Moreover, the trans-critical phenomenon at the leading edge of the rotor blade and the aerodynamic performance are covered. The results in this paper provide the foundation for the design and numerical investigation of SCO2 centrifugal compressors
