OBD-II access using a CAN to USB converter from Kvaser
This project aims to develop an application for PC that allows to connect, analyze and show data present on the OBD (On Board Diagnostic) CAN bus based system of any vehicle built since 2008. The final goal is to run this application connected with a real vehicle, equipped with a concrete OBD-II system.
It has been used an emulator from OZEN ELEKTRONIK to simulate the OBD system, combined with an adapter cable from KVASER and a USB – CAN converter from the same brand. The programming language chosen to develop the application was Visual Basic .NET.
In this thesis there is an initial introduction, with the objective and the goal of the project. After that, the history of the OBD and the state of art are explained; this chapter in particular wants to show the actual market supply, listing some examples of products already existent with a short description for each one. The text continues with the characterization of the instrumentation utilized and the specifications followed. Furthermore, there is an illustration about the structure of the application and the forms that constitute the latter. The results capitol speaks about the CAN messages exchanged between the device and the PC, with the explanation of the meaning of each byte of these messages. Finally, there is a discussion about economic costs and the environmental impact of the project. In the conclusions, a set of no-conformity of the device is listed, with the solutions adopted to solve each problemope
Time course of risk factors associated with mortality of 1260 critically ill patients with COVID-19 admitted to 24 Italian intensive care units
Purpose: To evaluate the daily values and trends over time of relevant clinical, ventilatory and laboratory parameters during the intensive care unit (ICU) stay and their association with outcome in critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19). Methods: In this retrospective–prospective multicentric study, we enrolled COVID-19 patients admitted to Italian ICUs from February 22 to May 31, 2020. Clinical data were daily recorded. The time course of 18 clinical parameters was evaluated by a polynomial maximum likelihood multilevel linear regression model, while a full joint modeling was fit to study the association with ICU outcome. Results: 1260 consecutive critically ill patients with COVID-19 admitted in 24 ICUs were enrolled. 78% were male with a median age of 63 [55–69] years. At ICU admission, the median ratio of arterial oxygen partial pressure to fractional inspired oxygen (PaO2/FiO2) was 122 [89–175] mmHg. 79% of patients underwent invasive mechanical ventilation. The overall mortality was 34%. Both the daily values and trends of respiratory system compliance, PaO2/FiO2, driving pressure, arterial carbon dioxide partial pressure, creatinine, C-reactive protein, ferritin, neutrophil, neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio, and platelets were associated with survival, while for lactate, pH, bilirubin, lymphocyte, and urea only the daily values were associated with survival. The trends of PaO2/FiO2, respiratory system compliance, driving pressure, creatinine, ferritin, and C-reactive protein showed a higher association with survival compared to the daily values. Conclusion: Daily values or trends over time of parameters associated with acute organ dysfunction, acid–base derangement, coagulation impairment, or systemic inflammation were associated with patient survival

On A-doping strategy for tuning the TWC catalytic performance of perovskite based catalysts
Several perovskites of the type La1-xAxCo0.5Cu0.5O3 (A = K, Sr, Ba; x = 0, 0.25, 0.5) and a Sr-doped understoichiometric one, havebeen preparedbycitrate methodaiming atapplication asnoble metals freecatalysts for automotive application. The catalysts have been characterized by BET, X-ray di\ufb00raction (XRD), Temperature Programmed Reduction (TPR), X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)andthee\ufb00ectofA-dopinghasbeeninvestigated.Thecatalyticactivitywasstudiedinmodelreactions(CO oxidation, CO assisted NO reduction), and in a complex three way catalysts (TWC) mixture approaching automotive exhaust composition at both stoichiometric and O2-limiting conditions and the obtained results are discussed inrelationwithcharacterization results.A-dopinginducestheformationofhighlydispersedcubicCuO particles, as observed in the understoichiometric samples. Doping also in\ufb02uences the surface segregation. La segregation is observed in the undoped LaCo0.5Cu0.5O3 sample whereas K is surface segregated in La0.75K0.25Co0.5Cu0.5O3; Co segregates in the Ba-doped perovskite and Sr in the understoichiometric La0.35Sr0.35Co0.5Cu0.5O3. The reducibility (TPR) is altered by A-doping. The reactivity results suggest that in simple CO + O2 and CO + NO mixturesthe activation temperature is increased byany doping, but at400 \ub0C the conversion in the CO assisted NO reduction is not signi\ufb01cantly di\ufb00erent with respect to the one obtained in the undoped catalyst. Activity with a more complex mixture, simulating actual engine exhaust, reveals the interesting activity of the Sr-doped catalysts, that outperform LaCo0.5Cu0.5O3 at both stoichiometric and O2-lean conditions. NO reduction can be achieved at lean O2 conditions, where it is quantitative from 400 \ub0C. The possibility to reach similar or better activity by replacing the use of La, which is a Rare Earth Element, by using Sr is particularly interesting. Stability at high temperatures and at fast \ufb02uctuations of O2 in inlet stream for 50% Sr-doped catalyst con\ufb01rms these results
A case of multiple sclerosis and necrotizing autoimmune myopathy with anti-SRP antibodies
Only few reports exist regarding the coexistence of multiple sclerosis (MS) and autoimmune myopathies. We describe the case of a man with a long history of undiagnosed left lower limb motor impairment who was hospitalized for subacute onset of a myopathic syndrome. In addition, neurological examination revealed sensory impairment and pyramidal signs in the left limbs. Muscle biopsy revealed a necrotizing myopathy and serum anti-signal recognition particle (SRP) antibodies were found. Brain and spinal cord MRI displayed several non-enhancing demyelinating lesions, and CSF-restricted oligoclonal bands were detected. Multimodal evoked potentials showed increased latency of central conduction. Total body PET-CT did not reveal malignancies. A final diagnosis of anti-SRP necrotizing autoimmune myopathy (NAM) and MS was made, and subsequent therapy with azathioprine resulted in a complete stability for both diseases during the follow up. To the best of our knowledge this is the first reported case of concomitant NAM and MS
