Complex Embeddings for Simple Link Prediction

    Get PDF
In statistical relational learning, the link prediction problem is key to automatically understand the structure of large knowledge bases. As in previous studies, we propose to solve this problem through latent factorization. However, here we make use of complex valued embeddings. The composition of complex embeddings can handle a large variety of binary relations, among them symmetric and antisymmetric relations. Compared to state-of-the-art models such as Neural Tensor Network and Holographic Embeddings, our approach based on complex embeddings is arguably simpler, as it only uses the Hermitian dot product, the complex counterpart of the standard dot product between real vectors. Our approach is scalable to large datasets as it remains linear in both space and time, while consistently outperforming alternative approaches on standard link prediction benchmarks.Comment: 10+2 pages, accepted at ICML 201

In this paper, we argue in favour of embedding struggles for recognition in struggles for appropriation. In the first section, we highlight the socio-economic antinomies of the Frankfurt’s School critique of capitalism. Then, through a presentation of Marx, we seek to anchor struggles for recognition in a socio-historical critique of capitalism. Lastly, we seek to present promising theoretical developments within Western Marxism to address the issue of recognition in advanced capitalism

On the diameter of random planar graphs

We show that the diameter D(G_n) of a random labelled connected planar graph with n vertices is equal to n^{1/4+o(1)}, in probability. More precisely there exists a constant c>0 such that the probability that D(G_n) lies in the interval (n^{1/4-\epsilon},n^{1/4+\epsilon}) is greater than 1-\exp(-n^{c\epsilon}) for {\epsilon} small enough and n>n_0(\epsilon). We prove similar statements for 2-connected and 3-connected planar graphs and maps.Comment: 24 pages, 7 figure

Using Software Metrics in the Evaluation of a Conceptual Component Model

International audienceEvery interactive system has a functional part and an interactive part. However the software engineering and the human-computer-interaction communities work separately in terms of methods, models and tools, which induces a work overhead for integrating the results of these efforts, as well as increased inconsistency risks. We endeavour to treat this problem by proposing a design method, which couples the functional kernel and the interaction design. In particular, this method proposes a specific way of structuring the interaction and the business spaces. The structure is based on components called Symphony Objects. In this article, we attempt to evaluate the technical aspect of a Symphony Object model issued from the method by measuring its implementations with software metrics

    Get PDF
We present here a technological study of a collection of 17 archaeological pearl-shell tattooing combs. They have been discovered in three archipelagoes of French Polynesia. The study offers a reconstitution of the manufacturing processes involved in the “chaîne opératoire”. Then, the combs are integrated to the existing typologies. For the first time, we also put them back in a diachronic perspective that allows new reflections about a model of regional development of these artifacts
