Computing Strong and Weak Permissions in Defeasible Logic
In this paper we propose an extension of Defeasible Logic to represent and
compute three concepts of defeasible permission. In particular, we discuss
different types of explicit permissive norms that work as exceptions to
opposite obligations. Moreover, we show how strong permissions can be
represented both with, and without introducing a new consequence relation for
inferring conclusions from explicit permissive norms. Finally, we illustrate
how a preference operator applicable to contrary-to-duty obligations can be
combined with a new operator representing ordered sequences of strong
permissions which derogate from prohibitions. The logical system is studied
from a computational standpoint and is shown to have liner computational
complexity
Strategic Argumentation is NP-Complete
In this paper we study the complexity of strategic argumentation for dialogue
games. A dialogue game is a 2-player game where the parties play arguments. We
show how to model dialogue games in a skeptical, non-monotonic formalism, and
we show that the problem of deciding what move (set of rules) to play at each
turn is an NP-complete problem
Applications of Linear Defeasible Logic: combining resource consumption and exceptions to energy management and business processes
Linear Logic and Defeasible Logic have been adopted to formalise different
features of knowledge representation: consumption of resources, and non
monotonic reasoning in particular to represent exceptions. Recently, a
framework to combine sub-structural features, corresponding to the consumption
of resources, with defeasibility aspects to handle potentially conflicting
information, has been discussed in literature, by some of the authors. Two
applications emerged that are very relevant: energy management and business
process management. We illustrate a set of guide lines to determine how to

This paper presents a new version of the sequence semantics presented at DEON 2014. This new version allows us for a capturing the distinction between logic of obligations and logic of norms. Several axiom schemata are discussed, while soundness and completeness results are proved
Neuropsychiatric manifestations associated with anti-endothelial cell antibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by multisystem involvement due to immune dysregulation. Neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE) includes neurological syndromes involving the central, peripheral and autonomic nervous system, as well as psychiatric syndromes observed in patients with SLE in which other causes have been excluded. The pathogenesis of NPSLE has been attributed to many different mechanisms. In particular, autoantibody-mediated vasculopathy seems to play a major role in the pathogenesis of the clinical features. Several autoantibody specificities have been reported in the serum and cerebrospinal fluid of NPSLE patients. Recently, we demonstrated an association between serum antiendothelial antibodies (AECA) and psychosis or depression in SLE patients, strengthening the notion of a possible role of this class of autoantibodies in the pathogenesis of the disease. The study of these autoantibodies could be a useful diagnostic and prognostic tool in patients with NPSLE
Urothelial bladder carcinoma metastasizing to the eye: a systematic review and case report
The eye is a rare site for disseminated malignancies; nevertheless, several tumors may metastasize to ocular structures. Few cases of urothelial and bladder cancer with eye involvement have been described in the literature thus far. The rarity of metastatic ocular localization implies an accurate differential diagnosis among the possible primary tumor sites. However, a specific diagnostic algorithm is not currently available, nor a defined therapeutic approach. Eye metastases are associated with advanced disease and poor prognosis. Physicians should be made aware of the possibility of eye involvement in patients with a past medical history of urothelial bladder cancer associated with ocular symptoms. The present case reports discusses the first documented case, to the best of our knowledge, of an urothelial bladder cancer metastasizing to the retro bulbar region that infiltrates the lacrimal gland. Furthermore, the report provides a systematic qualitative review of the current literature on eye metastases from urothelial bladder cancer using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analyses
Mercadeo y comercialización de la leche en la ciudad de Santa Marta
La investigación tuvo lugar en el municipio de Santa Marta, situado al norte del departamento del Magdalena, para obtener mejores resultados se tomaron como complemento los municipios de Ciénaga, Pueblo Viejo -Aracataca y Fundación. En cuanto al consumo de leche, demostramos que éste es bastante bajo y que la mayor población consumidora es la adulta. A través de los canales de comercialización, demostramos que son pocos los intermediarios por los que tiene que pasar la leche para llegar al consumidor final, mediante cuadros estadísticos, se determinó el número de individuos componentes de cada una de las familias investigadas. Por último, demostramos que, casi en su totalidad, la población del municipio estudiado consume el preciado líquido
Risk factors for infections due to carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae after open heart surgery
OBJECTIVES Patients undergoing major surgery are at increased risk of developing infections due to resistant organisms, including carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CR-Kp). In this study, we assessed risk factors for CR-Kp infections after open heart surgery in a teaching hospital in northern Italy. METHODS A retrospective study was conducted from January to December 2014. The primary outcome measure was postoperative CR-Kp infection, defined as a time-to-event end-point. The effect of potentially related variables was assessed by univariable and multivariable analyses. Secondary end-points were in-hospital mortality and 180-day postoperative mortality. RESULTS Among 553 patients undergoing open heart surgery, 32 developed CR-Kp infections (6%). In the final multivariable model, CR-Kp colonization [hazard ratio (HR) 227.45, 95% confidence intervals (CI) 67.13-1225.20, P < 0.001], cardiopulmonary bypass time in minutes (HR 1.01, 95% CI 1.01-1.02, P < 0.001), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (HR 3.99, 95% CI 1.61-9.45, P = 0.004), SOFA score (HR 1.29, 95% CI 1.08-1.53, P = 0.007), preoperative mechanical ventilation (HR 8.10, 95% CI 1.31-48.57, P = 0.026), prolonged mechanical ventilation (HR 2.48, 95% CI 1.08-6.15, P = 0.032) and female sex (HR 2.08, 95% CI 1.00-4.36, P = 0.049) were associated with the development of CR-Kp infection. Increased in-hospital mortality and 180-day mortality were observed in patients who developed CR-Kp infections in comparison with those who did not. CONCLUSIONS In our cohort, CR-Kp colonization was an important predictor of CR-Kp infection after open heart surgery. CR-Kp infection after surgery significantly affected survival.
