AGAPEROS: Searching for variable stars in the LMC Bar with the Pixel Method. I. Detection, astrometry and cross-identification

    Get PDF
We extend the work developed in previous papers on microlensing with a selection of variable stars. We use the Pixel Method to select variable stars on a set of 2.5 x 10**6 pixel light curves in the LMC Bar presented elsewhere. The previous treatment was done in order to optimise the detection of long timescale variations (larger than a few days) and we further optimise our analysis for the selection of Long Timescale and Long Period Variables (LT&LPV). We choose to perform a selection of variable objects as comprehensive as possible, independent of periodicity and of their position on the colour magnitude diagram. We detail the different thresholds successively applied to the light curves, which allow to produce a catalogue of 632 variable objects. We present a table with the coordinate of each variable, its EROS magnitudes at one epoch and an indicator of blending in both colours, together with a finding chart. A cross-correlation with various catalogues shows that 90% of those variable objects were undetected before, thus enlarging the sample of LT&LPV previously known in this area by a factor of 10. Due to the limitations of both the Pixel Method and the data set, additional data -- namely a longer baseline and near infrared photometry -- are required to further characterise these variable stars, as will be addressed in subsequent papers.Comment: 11 pages with 10 figure

The building, constructed on approximately 790 square meters, is devoted to a dining room and lodging for visitors in transit and is situated in Echarri-Aranaz, next to the highway, on a clearing in the woods, It possesses an extensive ground floor and two upper levéis covering smaller areas which rise, as a side body, over one of the building's sides. The overall structure houses a bar, dining room, kitchen, management office and a total of eight double rooms and two single rooms. An important double-pitch roof, which covers the two upper floors, together with another with several pitches which with its different planes conforms to the irregular perimeter of the structure on the ground floor, give the building the distinctive characteristics of the architecture typical of the region, in this way adaptedEl edificio, de aproximadamente 790 m2 construidos, se destina a comedor y hospedaje para personas en tránsito, estando emplazado en Echarri - Aranaz, junto a la carretera, en el calvero de un bosque.

Nasal carriage of Staphylococcus aureus in dairy sheep.

    Get PDF
International audienceThe purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus nasal carriage of dairy sheep in farms producing cheeses manufactured with raw ewe's milk. The study showed that 29% of ewes carried S. aureus in their nares. The genetic diversity of the 136 isolates recovered from the anterior nares of the ewes, from the ambient air of the milking parlour and from cheeses was investigated using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) of DNA SmaI digests. The genotyping results showed that 75 out of 106 isolates recovered from nasal carriage in dairy sheep belonged to a dominant pattern (previously named OV) and a genetically related pattern (named OV'). The same profile (OV or OV') was found in the ambient air and cheeses, suggesting a continuum between isolates within these different compartments

Conjugate 18cm OH Satellite Lines at a Cosmological Distance

We have detected the two 18cm OH satellite lines from the z0.247z \sim 0.247 source PKS1413+135, the 1720 MHz line in emission and the 1612 MHz line in absorption. The 1720 MHz luminosity is LOH354LL_{\rm OH} \sim 354 L_\odot, more than an order of magnitude larger than that of any other known 1720 MHz maser. The profiles of the two satellite lines are conjugate, implying that they arise in the same gas. This allows us to test for any changes in the values of fundamental constants, without being affected by systematic uncertainties arising from relative motions between the gas clouds in which the different lines arise. Our data constrain changes in Ggp[α2/y]1.849G \equiv g_p [\alpha^2/y]^{1.849}, where yme/mp y \equiv m_e/m_p; we find ΔG/G=2.2±3.8×105\Delta G/G = 2.2 \pm 3.8 \times 10^{-5}, consistent with no changes in α\alpha, gpg_p and yy.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure. Pharmacokinetics and dosage adjustment of cefotiam in renal impaired patients

    Get PDF
The pharmacokinetics of cefotiam were investigated after intravenous administration of 1 g to 2 healthy volunteers with normal renal function and to 16 patients whose creatinine clearance ranged from 4.7 to 0.11/h (78 to 1.66 ml/min). The elimination half-life varied from 1.1 h in normal subjects to 13 h in patients and the total plasma clearance from 21 to 0.6 1/h (350 to 10 ml/min). The urinary recovery decreased from 62% of the dose in normal subjects to 1.1% in patients, and the renal clearance from 15 to 0.03 l/h (250 to 0.5 ml/min). Plasma and renal clearances of cefotiam correlated well with the creatinine clearance. The dosage schedule for cefotiam in patients with normal renal function can be used in the presence of renal failure when the creatinine clearance is equal to or greater than 1 1/h (16.6 ml/min). For patients whose creatinine clearance is less than 1 1/h, the dose must be decreased to 75% of that for a patient with normal renal function only when it is given every 6 or 8

An analysis of gamma-ray burst spectral break models

Typical gamma-ray burst spectra are characterized by a spectral break, Ep, which for bright BATSE bursts is found to be narrowly clustered around 300 keV. Recently identified X-ray flashes, which may account for a significant portion of the whole GRB population, seem to extend the Ep distribution to a broader range below 40 keV. Positive correlations among Ep and some other observed parameters have been noticed. On the other hand, within the cosmological fireball model, the issues concerning the dominant energy ingredient of the fireball as well as the location of the GRB emission site are still unsettled, leading to several variants of the fireball model. Here we analyze these models within a unified framework, and critically reexamine the Ep predictions in the various model variants. Attention is focused on the predictions of the narrowness of the Ep distribution in different models, and the correlations among Ep and some other measurable observables. These model properties may be tested against the current and upcoming GRB data, through which the nature of the fireball as well as the mechanism and site of the GRB emission will be identified. In view of the current data, various models are appraised through a simple Monte-Carlo simulation, and a tentative discussion about the possible nature of X-ray flashes is presented.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures, emulateapj style, accepted for publication in ApJ. Survey for Emission-Line Galaxies: Universidad Complutense de Madrid List 3

    Get PDF
A new low-dispersion objective-prism search for low-redshift (z<0.045) emission-line galaxies (ELG) has been carried out by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid with the Schmidt Telescope at the Calar-Alto Observatory. This is a continuation of the UCM Survey, which was performed by visual selection of candidates in photographic plates via the presence of the Halpha+[NII]6584 blend in emission. In this new list we have applied an automatic procedure, fully developed by us, for selecting and analyzing the ELG candidates on the digitized images obtained with the MAMA machine. The analyzed region of the sky covers 189 square degrees in nine fields near R.A.=14h & 17h, Dec=25 deg. The final sample contains 113 candidates. Special effort has been made to obtain a large amount of information directly from our uncalibrated plates by using several external calibrations. The parameters obtained for the ELG candidates allow for the study of the statistical properties for the sample.Comment: 13 pages, 18 PostScript figures, 6 JPEG figures, Table 2 corrected. Examining the role of wine brand love on brand loyalty: a multi-country comparison

    Get PDF
This study develops and tests a model through a multi-country study that considers consumer wine knowledge and wine experience, wine brand trust and wine brand satisfaction as antecedents of wine brand love, and wine brand loyalty as a consequence of wine brand love. Data were collected in five wine-producing countries (Australia, Chile, France, Mexico and Portugal) with a final sample of 3462 completed surveys. Hypotheses were tested with structural equation modeling and the findings confirm the importance of brand love as both a mediator and direct influence on brand loyalty for wine consumers. Furthermore, brand satisfaction was positively and significantly related to brand love. In addition, wine experience, rather than wine knowledge, positively influenced brand trust and satisfaction. Finally, results also identify differences between countries thereby providing insights into how companies should focus their marketing strategies internationally.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
