Anthropologies, arts and politics

No presente artigo, o nosso objetivo foi produzir sob um olhar antropológico um estado da arte relativo a práticas artísticas de compromisso político introduzindo interlocuções com pesquisas que discutissem várias relações estabelecidas entre os fenômenos, experiências, práticas e conceitos acerca de gestos artísticos de fundo político, tendo como eixos as transformações ocorridas recentemente. Entendemos a relação entre arte, política e antropologia a partir de uma não hierarquização ou não dependência de um dos campos sobre o(s) outro(s). E, por isso, convocamos nossas leitoras e leitores para um olhar o mais horizontal possível deste triângulo conceitual: advogamos a existência de possibilidades diversas de pensar antropologicamente, de praticar arte ou de fazer política.In this paper, our proposal was to produce a state of art on the anthropological reflection about artistic practices with political engagement, and to generating dialogues with research projects that engage with the several forms of relation that can be established between the phenomena, experiences, practices, and concepts on artistic political-based gestures, starting from recent events. We understand the relationship between art, politics, and anthropology from a non-hierarchization or non-dependency of one field upon another. We propose to our readership a horizontal look at this conceptual triangle: we understand there are different possibilities to think anthropologically, to practice art, and to make politics

Dwellings, jabuticabas, and affections — trajectories with Sylvia Caiuby Novaes

Sylvia Caiuby Novaes é professora do Departamento de Antropologia da Universidade de São Paulo (USP) e dedica-se há cerca de 50 anos à pesquisa e ao ensino em antropologia. Entre outras realizações, ela é uma das pioneiras da antropologia visual no Brasil, é fundadora do Laboratório de Imagem e Som da Antropologia (LISA) e editora responsável pela revista Gesto, Imagem e Som. Revista de Antropologia (GIS). Nesta entrevista, realizada por mais de 30 orientandos de diferentes gerações, Sylvia fala sobre sua trajetória, projetos, visão de mundo, suas diversas viagens, o fascínio pelas pesquisas de campo e a universidade. Ao contar sobre sua trajetória acadêmica e pessoal, Sylvia traz reflexões sobre sua relação com a fotografia e a produção de imagens.  Sylvia Caiuby Novaes is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of São Paulo (USP) and has been dedicated to research and teaching in anthropology for nearly 50 years. Among other accomplishments, she is one of the pioneers of visual anthropology in Brazil, is the founder of the Laboratory of Image and Sound of Anthropology (LISA) and the editor in charge of the Gesture, Image and Sound.  Journal of Anthropology (GIS). Terrorisms and bridges of local music: Linn da Quebrada and her artivism of resistance and disidentification

Este artigo se insere em um conjunto de elucubrações sobre arte e política que venho realizando ao longo da última década. Diversamente de outras publicações, meu foco aqui é a relação entre música e política ou, antes, o musicar terrorista de uma artista específica, Linn da Quebrada. Interessa-me como esse musicar afeta a construção de uma localidade e é construído mutuamente por ela, criando coalizões que servem de semente para comunidades imaginadas dissidentes que são também comunidades de prática. Posteriormente, utilizo tanto desidentificação, tal como conceituada por José Estebán Muñoz, quanto a noção de reXistência (nossa, política, cotidiana) para refletir sobre algumas motivações inerentes a esse musicar, atentando de que maneira a aproximação entre música e política faz qualquer sentido formalista de estilo musical hesitar. Por fim, em minhas alucinações finais, aciono questões relacionadas à colonialidade do pensamento e dos corpos para pensar que musicar e localidade confluem na criação de esferas públicas éticas e estéticas na qual a lógica dominante do CIStema colonial e necropolítico não é régua comum.This article is part of a set of elaborations on art and politics that I have been carrying out over the last decade. Unlike other publications, my focus here is the relationship between music and politics or, rather, the terrorist musicking of a specific artist, Linn da Quebrada. I am interested in how this musicking affects the construction of a locality and is mutually constructed by it, creating coalitions that serve as seed for imagined dissident communities that are also communities of practice. Subsequently, I use both disidentification, as conceptualized by José Estebán Muñoz, and the notion of reXistence (ours, political, daily) to reflect on some motivations inherent in this musicking, paying attention to how the approximation between music and politics makes any formalist sense of musical style falter. Finally, in my final hallucinations, I bring questions related to the coloniality of thought and bodies to think that musicking and locality converge in the creation of ethical and aesthetic public spheres in which the dominant logic of the necropolitical colonial CIStem is not a common rule
