L’enseignement technique et professionnel masculin en Belgique : Aux sources d’une identité

En renouant les fils de l'histoire, l'autrice situe l'origine de la tradition de l'enseignement technique masculin en Belgique, dans l'enseignement industriel du XIXe siècle et sa figure emblématique de l'ouvrier-technicien. Elle montre comment, durant l'entre-deux-guerres, cette tradition donne sa cohérence éducative et structurelle à une filière unifiée d'enseignement technique de jour. Après 1945, la Belgique, comme d'autres pays européens, a mis en chantier un enseignement secondaire intégré au sein duquel, progressivement, l'identité positive forte issue de la tradition de l'enseignement technique masculin s'est en quelque sorte dissoute. La perspective sociohistorique qui guide l'article enrichit notre compréhension du terreau structurel et culturel dans lequel prennent racine les différents projets élaborés au fil du temps pour l'enseignement technique et professionnel. Finalement, nous sommes conduits à nous interroger au sujet des figures emblématiques et des valeurs porteuses pour l'avenir de cet enseignement, en quête d'une nouvelle identité.The author presents a historical description of the origins of technical training for males in Belgium particularly with the context of 19th century industrial training. The author shows how these traditions offer an educational and structural coherence to a unified approach to technical teaching. After 1945, Belgium, as well as other European countries, implemented an integrated secondary level school system which progressively lost the strong identity associated with the tradition of male technical teaching. The socio-historic perspective which provides the framework for the article permits an understanding of the structural and cultural moulds with which has developed technical and professional teaching. Finally, the author questions those values which will influence the future of this teaching area as it seeks a new identityReanudando los hilos de la historia, la autora situa el origen de la tradicion de la ensenanza técnica masculina en Bélgica, en la ensenanza industrial del siglo XIX y su figura emblemàtica, el obrero técnico. Ella muestra como, entre las dos guerras, esta tradicion otorgo coherencia educativa y estructural a una lfnea unificada de ensenanza técnica diurna. Después de 1945, en Bélgica, como en muchos otros paises europeos, se inicio una ensenanza secundaria integrada en la cual, progresivamente, la fuerte identidad positiva salida de la tradicion de la ensenanza técnica masculina se ha disuelto de cierta manera. La perspectiva sociohistorica que guia el articulo enriquece nuestra comprension del terreno estructural y cultural en el cual se arraigan los distintos proyectos habidos en ensenanza técnica y profesional. En fin, nos interrogamos a propôsito del papel de las figuras emblemàticas y los valores transmitidos para el porvenir de esta ensenanza, en bûsqueda de una nueva identidad.Auf Grund ihrer geschichtlichen Uberlegungen fiïhrt die Autorin die belgische Tradition der mànnlichen technischen Ausbildung zuriick auf die gewerbliche Ausbildung des 19. Jahrhunderts und deren emblematische Figur des Technikers als Arbeiter. Sie zeigt, wie sich zwischen den beiden Weltkriegen die schulische und strukturelle Kohârenz dieser Tradition zu einem einheitlichen Lehrplan der technischen Tagesschule entwickelt hat. Wie andere europàische Lander hat Belgien nach 1945 die technische Ausbildung progressiv in die allgemeine Mittelschule integriert, wodurch die herkômmliche starke Figur des mànnlichen Technikers allmâhlich verloren ging. Durch die soziohistorische Perspektive dieses Artikels gelangt man zu einem tieferen Verstandnis des strukturellen undkulturellen Bodens, aufwelchem die verschiedenen, im Laufe der Zeit fur den technischen und den Fachschulunterricht formulierten Projekte fuf?en. SchlieElich wird die Frage der emblematischen Figuren und der Werte untersucht, die fur die Zukunft dieser Ausbildung ausschlaggebend sind, auf der Suche nach einer neuen Identitât

Loss of ZBTB24 impairs nonhomologous end-joining and class-switch recombination in patients with ICF syndrome

The autosomal recessive immunodeficiency, centromeric instability, and facial anomalies (ICF) syndrome is a genetically heterogeneous disorder. Despite the identification of the underlying gene defects, it is unclear how mutations in any of the four known ICF genes cause a primary immunodeficiency. Here we demonstrate that loss of ZBTB24 in B cells from mice and ICF2 patients affects nonhomologous end-joining (NHEJ) during immunoglobulin class-switch recombination and consequently impairs immunoglobulin production and isotype balance. Mechanistically, we found that ZBTB24 associates with poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1) and stimulates its auto-poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation. The zinc-finger in ZBTB24 binds PARP1-associated poly(ADP-ribose) chains and mediates the PARP1-dependent recruitment of ZBTB24 to DNA breaks. Moreover, through its association with poly(ADP-ribose) chains, ZBTB24 protects them from degradation by poly(ADP-ribose) glycohydrolase (PARG). This facilitates the poly(ADP-ribose)-dependent assembly of the LIG4/XRCC4 complex at DNA breaks, thereby promoting error-free NHEJ. Thus, we uncover ZBTB24 as a regulator of PARP1-dependent NHEJ and class-switch recombination, providing a molecular basis for the immunodeficiency in ICF2 syndrome
