    The reaction Δ+N→N+N+ϕ\Delta+N\to N+N+\phi in ion-ion collisions

    We study the threshold ϕ\phi-meson production in the process Δ+N→N+N+ϕ\Delta+N\to N+N+\phi, which appears as a possible important mechanism in high energy nuclei-nuclei collisions. The isotopic invariance of the strong interaction and the selection rules due to P-parity and total angular momentum result in a general and model independent parametrization of the spin structure of the matrix element in terms of three partial amplitudes. In the framework of one-pion exchange model these amplitudes can be derived in terms of the two threshold partial amplitudes for the process π+N→N+ϕ\pi+N\to N+\phi. We predict the ratio of cross sections for ϕ−\phi-meson production in pppp- and ΔN\Delta N-collisions and the polarization properties of the ϕ\phi-meson, in Δ+N→N+N+ϕ\Delta+N\to N+N+\phi, as a function of a single parameter, which characterizes the relative role of transversal and longitudinal ϕ\phi-meson polarizations in the process π+N→N+ϕ\pi+N\to N+\phi.Comment: 10 pages 3 figure

    Measurement of the Ds lifetime

    We report precise measurement of the Ds meson lifetime. The data were taken by the SELEX experiment (E781) spectrometer using 600 GeV/c Sigma-, pi- and p beams. The measurement has been done using 918 reconstructed Ds. The lifetime of the Ds is measured to be 472.5 +- 17.2 +- 6.6 fs, using K*(892)0K+- and phi pi+- decay modes. The lifetime ratio of Ds to D0 is 1.145+-0.049.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures submitted to Phys. Lett.

    Mass spectra of doubly heavy Omega_QQ' baryons

    We evaluate the masses of baryons composed of two heavy quarks and a strange quark with account for spin-dependent splittings in the framework of potential model with the KKO potential motivated by QCD with a three-loop beta-function for the effective charge consistent with both the perturbative limit at short distances and linear confinement term at long distances between the quarks. The factorization of dynamics is supposed and explored in the nonrelativistic Schroedinger equation for the motion in the system of two heavy quarks constituting the doubly heavy diquark and the strange quark interaction with the diquark. The limits of approach, its justification and uncertainties are discussed. Excited quasistable states are classified by the quantum numbers of heavy diquark composed by the heavy quarks of the same flavor.Comment: 14 pages, revtex4-file, 3 eps-figures, 5 tables, typos correcte

    Evading the CKM Hierarchy: Intrinsic Charm in B Decays

    We show that the presence of intrinsic charm in the hadrons' light-cone wave functions, even at a few percent level, provides new, competitive decay mechanisms for B decays which are nominally CKM-suppressed. For example, the weak decays of the B-meson to two-body exclusive states consisting of strange plus light hadrons, such as B\to\pi K, are expected to be dominated by penguin contributions since the tree-level b\to s u\bar u decay is CKM suppressed. However, higher Fock states in the B wave function containing charm quark pairs can mediate the decay via a CKM-favored b\to s c\bar c tree-level transition. Such intrinsic charm contributions can be phenomenologically significant. Since they mimic the amplitude structure of ``charming'' penguin contributions, charming penguins need not be penguins at all.Comment: 28 pages, 6 figures, published version.     Challenges for sustainable monitoring and evaluation of the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive in the Atlantic offshore waters: the iFADO project

    The European Atlantic Area in situ characterization/monitoring is challenging due to the high costs involved (24% of total EU waters for 12% of total population). The implementation of the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) is complex if the objective is to extend periodic monitoring programs to offshore waters. Remote sensing and modelling have been recognised by the Copernicus Marine Service as suitable methodologies to characterise the global ocean both for nowcast and forecast. iFADO (Innovation in the Framework of the Atlantic Deep Ocean, 2017-2021) is an Interreg Atlantic Area project which main objective is to integrate technologies, including remote sensing, numerical modelling and in situ monitoring, to ease management decisions from MSFD competent authorities.     Measurement of the Tau Branching Fractions into Leptons

    Using data collected with the L3 detector near the Z resonance, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 150pb-1, the branching fractions of the tau lepton into electron and muon are measured to be B(tau->e nu nu) = (17.806 +- 0.104 (stat.) +- 0.076 (syst.)) %, B(tau->mu nu nu) = (17.342 +- 0.110 (stat.) +- 0.067 (syst.)) %. From these results the ratio of the charged current coupling constants of the muon and the electron is determined to be g_mu/g_e = 1.0007 +- 0.0051. Assuming electron-muon universality, the Fermi constant is measured in tau lepton decays as G_F = (1.1616 +- 0.0058) 10^{-5} GeV^{-2}. Furthermore, the coupling constant of the strong interaction at the tau mass scale is obtained as alpha_s(m_tau^2) = 0.322 +- 0.009 (exp.) +- 0.015 (theory)

    Measurement of the Topological Branching Fractions of the tau lepton at LEP

    Using data collected with the L3 detector at LEP from 1992 to 1995 on the Z peak, we determine the branching fractions of the tau lepton into one, three and five charged particles to be: B(tau->(1-prong)) = 85.274 +- 0.105 +- 0.073 %, B(tau->(3-prong)) = 14.556 +- 0.105 +- 0.076 %, B(tau->(5-prong)) = 0.170 +- 0.022 +- 0.026 %. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The accuracy of these measurements alone is similar to that of the current world average

    Polarized Single Top Quark Production in e\gamma Collision and Anomalous Wtb Couplings

    We investigate the potential of eÎłe\gamma collisions to probe anomalous WtbWtb couplings via the polarized single top quark production process e+γ→tbˉΜeˉe^{+} \gamma \to t \bar{b} \bar{\nu_{e}}. We find 95% confidence level limits on the anomalous coupling parameters F2LF_{2L} and F2RF_{2R} with an integrated luminosity of 500fb−1500 fb^{-1} and s=0.5,1\sqrt{s}=0.5, 1 and 1.5 TeV energies. The effects of top quark spin polarization on the anomalous WtbWtb couplings are discussed. It is shown that polarization leads to a considerable improvement in the sensitivity limits.Comment: published versio

    Study of the Process e+ e- ---> eta gamma in c.m. Energy Range 600-1380 MeV at CMD-2

    The cross section of the process e+ e- ---> eta gamma has been measured in the 600-1380 MeV c.m. energy range with the CMD-2 detector. The following branching ratios have been determined: B(rho ---> eta gamma) = (3.28 +- 0.37 +- 0.23) 10^{-4}, B(omega ---> eta gamma) = (5.10 +- 0.72 +- 0.34) 10^{-4}, B(phi --> eta gamma) = (1.287 +- 0.013 +- 0.063) 10^{-2}.     Production of pizero and eta mesons at large transverse momenta in pp and pBe interactions at 530 and 800 GeV/c

    We present results on the production of high transverse momentum pizero and eta mesons in pp and pBe interactions at 530 and 800 GeV/c. The data span the kinematic ranges: 1 < p_T < 10 GeV/c in transverse momentum and 1.5 units in rapidity. The inclusive pizero cross sections are compared with next-to-leading order QCD calculations and to expectations based on a phenomenological parton-k_T model.Comment: RevTeX, 63 pages, 25 figures, to be submitted to Phys.
