Physico-mathematical model for determining the direction in space to point sources of gamma radiation using spherical absorber

    No full text
Physico-mathematical model for determining the direction in space to point sources of gamma radiation using a spherical absorber was developed. CdTe detectors of appropriate sizes are placed in the regular pyramid tops under absorber. The physico-mathematical model allowed, taking into account the exponential attenuation of gamma radiation by the absorber, to find the distance from the location of any CdTe sensor to the surface of sphere in any direction in space. Calculated information and signal received from the detectors, correlate to each other. The ratios found depend on the angle to the source of gamma radiation and represent the ratio of transmittance coefficients for four sensors. A methodology for locating the developed device in space, which allowed to obtain dependence of the calculated ratios from the angle in space for θ = 90° and φ from 0° to 360° in increments of 15° was proposed. Each direction in space corresponds to a set of six respective ratios

The first lasing near the wavelength of 140 µm was achieved in April 2003 using a high-power free electron laser (FEL) constructed at the Siberian Center for Photochemical Research. In this paper we briefly describe the design of the FEL driven by an accelerator–recuperator. Characteristics of the electron beam and terahertz laser radiation, obtained in the first experiments, are also presented in the paper. A multi-country test of brief reappraisal interventions on emotions during the COVID-19 pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased negative emotions and decreased positive emotions globally. Left unchecked, these emotional changes might have a wide array of adverse impacts. To reduce negative emotions and increase positive emotions, we tested the effectiveness of reappraisal, an emotion-regulation strategy that modifies how one thinks about a situation. Participants from 87 countries and regions (n = 21,644) were randomly assigned to one of two brief reappraisal interventions (reconstrual or repurposing) or one of two control conditions (active or passive). Results revealed that both reappraisal interventions (vesus both control conditions) consistently reduced negative emotions and increased positive emotions across different measures. Reconstrual and repurposing interventions had similar effects. Importantly, planned exploratory analyses indicated that reappraisal interventions did not reduce intentions to practice preventive health behaviours. The findings demonstrate the viability of creating scalable, low-cost interventions for use around the world

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Psychological Science Accelerator coordinated three large-scale psychological studies to examine the effects of loss-gain framing, cognitive reappraisals, and autonomy framing manipulations on behavioral intentions and affective measures. The data collected (April to October 2020) included specific measures for each experimental study, a general questionnaire examining health prevention behaviors and COVID-19 experience, geographical and cultural context characterization, and demographic information for each participant. Each participant started the study with the same general questions and then was randomized to complete either one longer experiment or two shorter experiments. Data were provided by 73,223 participants with varying completion rates. Participants completed the survey from 111 geopolitical regions in 44 unique languages/dialects. The anonymized dataset described here is provided in both raw and processed formats to facilitate re-use and further analyses. The dataset offers secondary analytic opportunities to explore coping, framing, and self-determination across a diverse, global sample obtained at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which can be merged with other time-sampled or geographic data

In order to create high-durable, wear-resistant materials for a wide range of functional applications, comparative investigations of the structure and mechanical characteristics of ion-plasma Ti-W-B nano-crystalline condensates were carried out. The range of condensation rates 0.11÷0.25nm/s was found to be critical for the coatings obtained from the target with 80 vol% W2B5-20 vol% TiB2. Below this, a phase with a cubic lattice (W,Ti)B0.7…1.2(O,N,C)0.3…0.2 formed, while over this range, a solid solution (W,Ti)B2 with a hexagonal lattice and element composition close to the sputtered target was observed. The structure state of the material changed from cluster-crystalline (under low sputter potentials U=0.6…1.0 kV) to textured- crystalline (under U>2.2 kV). Structure perfection improvement with U increase results in higher hardness and elastic modulus of condensates. The conditions of cluster component formation and its effect on hardness and elastic modulus of condensates are discussed.

Alpha-, beta-, gamma-radiometric measurements using semiconductor detectors

Referring to shortcomings of modern radiation detection and monitoring devices, an operable prototype of the device for determination of the gamma radiation exposure dose rate within the range from 10 μ R/h to 1000 R/h, with the energy γ -radiation sensitivity range from 50 keV to 3 MeV, has been offered. The prototype is able to register the α-radiation and β-radiation flux density. The device operates using two detection units and a two-channel counting unit. Registration of the exposure dose rate is provided by using CdTe detector, and registration of the α-radiation and β-radiation flux density is provided by using Si detector

Osteosynthesis according to ilizarov as a self-sufficient method for treatment of shin bones fractures [

Shin fractures are the most common skeletal injuries. Practically all known types of osteosynthesis are used for treatment. The use of the Ilizarov method is associated with certain difficulties relating to the peculiarities of postoperative observation. Objective − to generalize the long-term experience of using the Ilizarov method in the treatment of diaphyseal fractures of the shin bones, to optimize the technique, analyze problems and assess the prospects for the development of the method. Materials and methods. The experience with treating 57 patients with diaphyseal fractures of the shin bones is presented. All patients underwent Ilizarov osteosynthesis using rod and spoke-rod devices. The dynamics of load recovery, the timing of dismantling the apparatus, the number and severity of complications were assessed. Results. The recovery times for the loads were as follows: 25 % − 5.4 + 1.4 days; 50 % − 34.7 + 11.2 days; 100 % − 76.2 + 17.6 days. The time for dismantling the apparatus is 155 + 37.3 days. The minimum period from osteosynthesis to the dismantling of the apparatus was 95 days, the maximum – 278 days. During the treatment of the group of patients under consideration, two types of complications were encountered: inflammation of the soft tissues at the points of exit of the wires in 24 (42.1 %) and delayed fusion in 1 (1.8 %) patient. Conclusion. The use of spoke-rod structures is optimal. The osteosynthesis operation involves performing a preliminary reduction. A feature of the postoperative period is constant monitoring and interaction between the doctor and the patient. Osteosynthesis according to Ilizarov in the treatment of patients with fractures of the shin bones is a self-sufficient method that provides accurate reposition, stable fixation and good anatomical and functional results. © 2021 The Charity Fund of Clinical Center of Miners' Health Protection.
