Double-Peaked Narrow-Line Active Galactic Nuclei. II. The Case Of Equal Peaks
Active galactic nuclei (AGNs) with double-peaked narrow lines (DPAGNs) may be caused by kiloparsec-scale binary AGNs, bipolar outflows, or rotating gaseous disks. We examine the class of DPAGNs in which the two narrow-line components have closely similar intensity as being especially likely to involve disks or jets. Two spectroscopic indicators support this likelihood. For DPAGNs from Smith et al., the "equal-peaked" objects (EPAGNs) have [Ne V]/[O III] ratios lower than for a control sample of non-double-peaked AGNs. This is unexpected for a pair of normal AGNs in a galactic merger, but may be consistent with [O III] emission from a rotating ring with relatively little gas at small radii. © 2019 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. Eleutherococcus senticosus Maxim. belongs to the Araliaceae family. Phytochemical studies reveal that E. senticosus leaves contain triterpene glycosides along with organic acid derivatives and flavonoid compounds. It is believed that E. senticosus is similar to ginseng because they come from same family and both contain triterpene saponins. E. senticosus leaves have been developed as a functional beverage called ci-wu-jia tea in recent years. Triterpene glycosides are difficult to identify by ultraviolet (UV) detection and contents of these compounds are low in E. senticosus leaves. In this study, a sensitive ultra-high performance liquid chromatographic (UHPLC) method combining UV and tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) was developed to characterize the triterpene glycosides from E. senticosus leaves and related commercial products. Fragmentation patterns of three sub-groups of triterpene glycosides in E. senticosus leaves were investigated. Additionally, fragmentation pathways and UV characteristics of organic acid derivatives and flavonoids were also characterized. A compound screening library, including 241 compounds reported in the literature, was created and used to confirm the compounds in the samples. In this study, a total of 24 samples, including 13 plant samples of E. senticosus and 11 ci-wu-jia tea products, were analyzed. Out of the 11 commercial products, three products were discovered to contain green tea (Camellia sinensis) that was considered to be an adulterant since it was not an ingredient on the labels. The developed UHPLC-UV-MS/MS analytical method combined with the UNIFI processing method can simultaneously characterize organic acid derivatives, flavonoids, and triterpene saponins from E. senticosus. It provides a simple and sensitive way to perform quality control of E. senticosus and related ci-wu-jia tea products
High Frequency Peakers: young radio sources or flaring blazars?
We present new, simultaneous, multifrequency observations of 45 out of the 55
candidate High Frequency Peakers (HFP) selected by Dallacasa et al. (2000),
carried out 3 to 4 years after a first set of observations. Our sub-sample
consists of 10 galaxies, 28 stellar objects (``quasars'') and 7 unidentified
sources. Both sets of observations are sensitive enough to allow the detection
of variability at the 10% level or lower. While galaxies do not show
significant variability, most quasars do. Seven of them no longer show the
convex spectrum which is the defining property of Gigahertz Peaked Spectrum
(GPS)/HFP sources and are interpreted as blazars caught by Dallacasa et al.
(2000) during a flare, when a highly self-absorbed component dominated the
emission. In general, the variability properties (amplitude, timescales,
correlation between peak luminosity and peak frequency of the flaring
component) of the quasar sub-sample resemble those of blazars. We thus conclude

ETV6 germline mutations cause HDAC3/NCOR2 mislocalization and upregulation of interferon response genes
ETV6 is an ETS family transcription factor that plays a key role in hematopoiesis and megakaryocyte development. Our group and others have identified germline mutations in ETV6 resulting in autosomal dominant thrombocytopenia and predisposition to malignancy; however, molecular mechanisms defining the role of ETV6 in megakaryocyte development have not been well established. Using a combination of molecular, biochemical, and sequencing approaches in patient-derived PBMCs, we demonstrate abnormal cytoplasmic localization of ETV6 and the HDAC3/NCOR2 repressor complex that led to overexpression of HDAC3-regulated interferon response genes. This transcriptional dysregulation was also reflected in patient-derived platelet transcripts and drove aberrant proplatelet formation in megakaryocytes. Our results suggest that aberrant transcription may predispose patients with ETV6 mutations to bone marrow inflammation, dysplasia, and megakaryocyte dysfunction
Nonexistence of marginally trapped surfaces and geons in 2+1 gravity
We use existence results for Jang's equation and marginally outer trapped
surfaces (MOTSs) in 2+1 gravity to obtain nonexistence of geons in 2+1 gravity.
In particular, our results show that any 2+1 initial data set, which obeys the
dominant energy condition with cosmological constant \Lambda \geq 0 and which
satisfies a mild asymptotic condition, must have trivial topology. Moreover,
any data set obeying these conditions cannot contain a MOTS. The asymptotic
condition involves a cutoff at a finite boundary at which a null mean convexity
condition is assumed to hold; this null mean convexity condition is satisfied
by all the standard asymptotic boundary conditions. The results presented here
strengthen various aspects of previous related results in the literature. These
results not only have implications for classical 2+1 gravity but also apply to
quantum 2+1 gravity when formulated using Witten's solution space quantization.Comment: v3: Elements from the original two proofs of the main result have

Drought as an emergent driver of ecological transformation in the twenty-first century
Under climate change, ecosystems are experiencing novel drought regimes, often in combination with stressors that reduce resilience and amplify drought\u27s impacts. Consequently, drought appears increasingly likely to push systems beyond important physiological and ecological thresholds, resulting in substantial changes in ecosystem characteristics persisting long after drought ends (i.e., ecological transformation). In the present article, we clarify how drought can lead to transformation across a wide variety of ecosystems including forests, woodlands, and grasslands. Specifically, we describe how climate change alters drought regimes and how this translates to impacts on plant population growth, either directly or through drought\u27s interactions with factors such as land management, biotic interactions, and other disturbances. We emphasize how interactions among mechanisms can inhibit postdrought recovery and can shift trajectories toward alternate states. Providing a holistic picture of how drought initiates long-term change supports the development of risk assessments, predictive models, and management strategies, enhancing preparedness for a complex and growing challenge
