Neutrino-induced deuteron disintegration experiment
Cross sections for the disintegration of the deuteron via neutral-current
(NCD) and charged-current (CCD) interactions with reactor antineutrinos are
measured to be 6.08 +/- 0.77 x 10^(-45) cm-sq and 9.83 +/- 2.04 x 10^(-45)
cm-sq per neutrino, respectively, in excellent agreement with current
calculations. Since the experimental NCD value depends upon the CCD value, if
we use the theoretical value for the CCD reaction, we obtain the improved value
of 5.98 +/- 0.54 x 10^(-45) for the NCD cross section. The neutral-current
reaction allows a unique measurement of the isovector-axial vector coupling
constant in the hadronic weak interaction (beta). In the standard model, this
constant is predicted to be exactly 1, independent of the Weinberg angle. We
measure a value of beta^2 = 1.01 +/- 0.16. Using the above improved value for
the NCD cross section, beta^2 becomes 0.99 +/- 0.10.Comment: 22pages, 9 figure

Bunburra Rockhole: Exploring the geology of a new differentiated basaltic asteroid
Bunburra Rockhole (BR) is the first recovered meteorite of the Desert Fireball Network. It was initially classified as a basaltic eucrite, based on texture, mineralogy, and mineral chemistry but subsequent O isotopic analyses showed that BR's composition lies significantly far away from the HED group of meteorites. This suggested that BR was not a piece of the HED parent body (4 Vesta), but other explanations could also account for the observed oxygen signatures. Possible scenarios include contamination by components from other bodies (chondrites or other achondrites) or that 4 Vesta may not be as equilibrated as hypothesized. After examining multiple pieces with different instruments (CT scans and x-ray maps), no obvious evidence of contamination was found. If BR is not from Vesta, a conundrum exists as no unusual features were found in mineral and bulk trace element chemistry as exist for other anomalous basaltic achondrites such as Ibitira or Asuka 881394. These meteorites have distinct petrological and geochemical characteristics, in addition to their anomalous O isotope compositions, that set them apart from eucrites. Thus, early results provided a somewhat ambiguous picture of BR's petrogenesis and parentage. To clarify the nature of the relationship, if any, between BR and eucrites, we have performed a correlated stable isotope and bulk chemical study of several lithologic fragments
Normal levels of p27Xic1 are necessary for somite segmentation and determining pronephric organ size
The Xenopus laevis cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor p27Xic1 has been shown to be involved in exit from the cell cycle and differentiation of cells into a quiescent state in the nervous system, muscle tissue, heart and retina. We show that p27Xic1 is expressed in the developing kidney in the nephrostomal regions. Using over-expression and morpholino oligonucleotide (MO) knock-down approaches we show normal levels of p27Xic1 regulate pronephros organ size by regulating cell cycle exit. Knock-down of p27Xic1 expression using a MO prevented myogenesis, as previously reported; an effect that subsequently inhibits pronephrogenesis. Furthermore, we show that normal levels of p27Xic1 are required for somite segmentation also through its cell cycle control function. Finally, we provide evidence to suggest correct paraxial mesoderm segmentation is not necessary for pronephric induction in the intermediate mesoderm. These results indicate novel developmental roles for p27Xic1, and reveal its differentiation function is not universally utilised in all developing tissues
Graphite and Graphene Fairy Circles:A Bottom-Up Approach for the Formation of Nanocorrals
A convenient covalent functionalization approach and nanopatterning method of graphite and graphene is developed. In contrast to expectations, electrochemically activated dediazotization of a mixture of two aryl diazonium compounds in aqueous media leads to a spatially inhomogeneous functionalization of graphitic surfaces, creating covalently modified surfaces with quasi-uniform spaced islands of pristine graphite or graphene, coined nanocorrals. Cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry approaches are compared. The average diameter (45-130 nm) and surface density (20-125 corrals/μm 2 ) of these nanocorrals are tunable. These chemically modified nanostructured graphitic (CMNG) surfaces are characterized by atomic force microscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Mechanisms leading to the formation of these CMNG surfaces are discussed. The potential of these surfaces to investigate supramolecular self-assembly and on-surface reactions under nanoconfinement conditions is demonstrated. © 2019 American Chemical Society

Inorganic and Radiochemical Analysis of AW-101 and AN-107 ''Diluted Feed'' Materials
This report presents the inorganic and radiochemical analytical results for AW-101 and AN-107 diluted feed materials. The analyses were conducted in support of the BNFL Proposal No. 29952/29953 Task 2.1. The inorganic and radiochemical analysis results obtained from the diluted feed materials are used to provide initial characterization information for subsequent processing testing. Quality Assurance (QA) Plan MCS-033 provides the operational and quality control protocols for the analytical activities
Saturation of electrical resistivity
Resistivity saturation is observed in many metallic systems with a large
resistivity, i.e., when the resistivity has reached a critical value, its
further increase with temperature is substantially reduced. This typically
happens when the apparent mean free path is comparable to the interatomic
separations - the Ioffe-Regel condition. Recently, several exceptions to this
rule have been found. Here, we review experimental results and early theories
of resistivity saturation. We then describe more recent theoretical work,
addressing cases both where the Ioffe-Regel condition is satisfied and where it
is violated. In particular we show how the (semiclassical) Ioffe-Regel
condition can be derived quantum-mechanically under certain assumptions about
the system and why these assumptions are violated for high-Tc cuprates and
alkali-doped fullerides.Comment: 16 pages, RevTeX, 15 eps figures, additional material available at

Clan structure analysis and QCD parton showers in multiparticle dynamics. An intriguing dialog between theory and experiment
This paper contains a review of the main results of a search of regularities
in collective variables properties in multiparticle dynamics, regularities
which can be considered as manifestations of the original simplicity suggested
by QCD. The method is based on a continuous dialog between experiment and
theory. The paper follows the development of this research line, from its
beginnings in the seventies to the current state of the art, discussing how it
produced both sound interpretations of the most relevant experimental facts and
intriguing perspectives for new physics signals in the TeV energy domain.Comment: 118 pages, 48 figures; table of contents fixed for hyperre
