    PECULIARITIES OF ECONOMIC SOCIALIZATION OF SCHOOL STUDENTS IN RUSSIA AND CHINA

    Different countries have started to recognize the importance of economic socialization of youth. The article describes how Russia and China at the state level encourage school students to be economically socialized. The article describes peculiarities of economic socialization of school students in Russia and China. The attention is paid to secondary schools in both countries which play a great role in economic socialization of school students. The article highlights the common features and differences of the economic socialization of school students in Russia and in China. It is shown that the common features of this kind of socialization in both countries are the following. Russia and China respect the importance of economic socialization of school students. They introduce a variety of measures into real life: organize special entrepreneurial theoretical trainings in schools, deliver lectures, workshops, discuss money and financial issues. As for the differences, they are as follows. In Russia school students are more theoretically oriented in terms of economics and entrepreneurship. Chinese school students have more practical training because most of schools in China have mini-enterprises in forms of farms, restaurants and etc. In other words, school students obtain practical knowledge and skills of economics on the business sites

    A P-type ATPase importer that discriminates between essential and toxic transition metals

    Transition metals, although being essential cofactors in many physiological processes, are toxic at elevated concentrations. Among the membrane-embedded transport proteins that maintain appropriate intracellular levels of transition metals are ATP-driven pumps belonging to the P-type ATPase superfamily. These metal transporters may be differentiated according to their substrate specificities, where the majority of pumps can extrude either silver and copper or zinc, cadmium, and lead. In the present report, we have established the substrate specificities of nine previously uncharacterized prokaryotic transition-metal P-type ATPases. We find that all of the newly identified exporters indeed fall into one of the two above-mentioned categories. In addition to these exporters, one importer, Pseudomonas aeruginosa Q9I147, was also identified. This protein, designated HmtA (heavy metal transporter A), exhibited a different substrate recognition profile from the exporters. In vivo metal susceptibility assays, intracellular metal measurements, and transport experiments all suggest that HmtA mediates the uptake of copper and zinc but not of silver, mercury, or cadmium. The substrate selectivity of this importer ensures the high-affinity uptake of essential metals, while avoiding intracellular contamination by their toxic counterparts

    Design, implementation, evaluation and application of a 32-channel radio frequency signal generator for thermal magnetic resonance based anti-cancer treatment

    Thermal Magnetic Resonance (ThermalMR) leverages radio frequency (RF)-induced heating to examine the role of temperature in biological systems and disease. To advance RF heating with multi-channel RF antenna arrays and overcome the shortcomings of current RF signal sources, this work reports on a 32-channel modular signal generator (SG(PLL)). The SG(PLL) was designed around phase-locked loop (PLL) chips and a field-programmable gate array chip. To examine the system properties, switching/settling times, accuracy of RF power level and phase shifting were characterized. Electric field manipulation was successfully demonstrated in deionized water. RF heating was conducted in a phantom setup using self-grounded bow-tie RF antennae driven by the SG(PLL). Commercial signal generators limited to a lower number of RF channels were used for comparison. RF heating was evaluated with numerical temperature simulations and experimentally validated with MR thermometry. Numerical temperature simulations and heating experiments controlled by the SG(PLL) revealed the same RF interference patterns. Upon RF heating similar temperature changes across the phantom were observed for the SG(PLL) and for the commercial devices. To conclude, this work presents the first 32-channel modular signal source for RF heating. The large number of coherent RF channels, wide frequency range and accurate phase shift provided by the SG(PLL) form a technological basis for ThermalMR controlled hyperthermia anti-cancer treatment

    Phosphorylation of serine-893 in CARD11 suppresses the formation and activity of the CARD11-BCL10-MALT1 complex in T and B cells

    CARD 11 acts as a gatekeeper for adaptive immune responses after T cell or B cell antigen receptor (TCR/BCR) ligation on lymphocytes. PKC theta/beta-catalyzed phosphorylation of CARD11 promotes the assembly of the CARD11-BCL10-MALT1 (CBM) complex and lymphocyte activation. Here, we demonstrated that PKC theta/beta-dependent CARD11 phosphorylation also suppressed CARD11 functions in T or B cells. Through mass spectrometry-based proteomics analysis, we identified multiple constitutive and inducible CARD11 phosphorylation sites in T cells. We demonstrated that a single TCR- or BCR-inducible phosphorylation on Ser 893 in the carboxyl terminus of CARD1 1 prevented the activation of the transcription factor NF-kappa B, the kinase JNK, and the protease MALT1. Moreover, CARD11 Ser(893) phosphorylation sensitized BCR-addicted lymphoma cells to toxicity induced by Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitors. Phosphorylation of Ser 893 in CARD11 by PKCO controlled the strength of CARD11 scaffolding by impairing the formation of the CBM complex. Thus, PKCO simultaneously catalyzes both stimulatory and inhibitory CARD11 phosphorylation events, which shape the strength of CARD11 signaling in lymphocytes

    Optimizing end-labeled free-solution electrophoresis by increasing the hydrodynamic friction of the drag-tag

    We study the electrophoretic separation of polyelectrolytes of varying lengths by means of end-labeled free-solution electrophoresis (ELFSE). A coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulation model, using full electrostatic interactions and a mesoscopic Lattice Boltzmann fluid to account for hydrodynamic interactions, is used to characterize the drag coefficients of different label types: linear and branched polymeric labels, as well as transiently bound micelles. It is specifically shown that the label's drag coefficient is determined by its hydrodynamic size, and that the drag per label monomer is largest for linear labels. However, the addition of side chains to a linear label offers the possibility to increase the hydrodynamic size, and therefore the label efficiency, without having to increase the linear length of the label, thereby simplifying synthesis. The third class of labels investigated, transiently bound micelles, seems very promising for the usage in ELFSE, as they provide a significant higher hydrodynamic drag than the other label types. The results are compared to theoretical predictions, and we investigate how the efficiency of the ELFSE method can be improved by using smartly designed drag-tags.Comment: 32 pages, 11 figures, submitted to Macromolecule
