Esthetic rehabilitation with ultra-thin ceramic veneers and direct mock-up in the treatment of dental erosion – Case report
Indexación: Scopus.Dental erosion is a high prevalence condition characterized by the loss of dental substance due to chemical agents. It can also be associated with physical wear, affecting function and aesthetics. Ceramic veneers can provide effective solutions to patients affected by erosive disorders, by means of an indirect approach and minimal intervention. Recent advances in cementation techniques and ceramic materials have allowed their use in reduced thicknesses, known as "dental contact lenses" or "ultra-thin veneers". They contribute significantly to the preservation of the dental structures, having excellent models or mock ups in order to preview the final outcome. Case: The aim of this report is to communicate the use of this technique for the treatment and successful 12-months follow-up of a patient affected by dental erosion of the maxillary central incisors. Special interest was placed on direct mock-up, which is a simple technique not requiring laboratory steps. Luting of the lithium disilicate veneers was carried out with a light-curing resin cement and try-in pastes, yielding a very satisfactory result. Conclusion: Diagnosis and early treatment of this disorder allows the application of conservative techniques, such as ultra-thin veneers, which are seen as a promising alternative treatment to full coverage restorations and traditional ceramic veneers. © 2018, Universidad de Concepcion. From Salvation to Damnation: A Case Study on the Role of a System Sponsor in Strategic Downfall
The positive impact of champions on systems implementation and adoption is well established. The term systems evangelist describes another common but less understood sponsor role beyond systems adoption. Subtle champion to evangelist role changes may hurt company performance, particularly when an executive fills the role. Through a historical case study using the capability building and entrepreneurial action model, the impact of an executive sponsor with daily IS management responsibility is examined. Beyond the champion phase, consistent with theory, the sponsor operates as a system evangelist, promoting use of a system poorly suited to its changing environment. Firm performance consequently suffers. This initial test of the theory demonstrates that system evangelists not only may, but are likely, to drive continued use of performanceimpeding systems. Strategies to limit negative evangelist impacts while preserving their benefits are presented. Finally, other executive sponsorship cases that appear to unfold similarly are identified for future study
Fil: Moreno, Maria Valeria. Instituto Nacional de TecnologÃa Agropecuaria (INTA). Case Study of a Complex Informing System: Joint Interagency Field Experimentation (JIFX)
The article of record as published may be found at http://www.inform.nu/Articles/Vol18/ISJv18p063-109Murphy1655.pdfThe Joint Interagency Field Experimentation (JIFX) event, organized by the Naval Postgraduate
School (NPS), is conducted 3-4 times a year at various locations. The four day event can be characterized
as an informing system specifically designed to facilitate structured and unstructured
communications between a variety of parties—e.g., software developers, inventors, military and
civilian users of various technologies, academics, and agencies responsible for identifying and
procuring technology solutions—that frequently are constrained in their informing activities in
more restrictive venues. Over the course of the event, participants may observe technology
demonstrations, obtain feedback from potential users, acquire new ideas about their technologies
might be employed and, perhaps most significantly, engage in ad hoc collaborations with other
participants.
The present paper describes an exploratory case research study that was conducted over a one
year period and involved both direct observation of the event and follow-up interviews with 49
past participants in the event. The goal of the research was to assess the nature of participant-impact
resulting from attending JIFX and to consider the consistency of the findings with the predictions
of various theoretical frameworks used in informing science. The results suggest that
participants perceived that the event provided significant value from three principal sources: discovery,
interaction with potential clients (users) of the technologies involved, and networking
with other participants. These findings were largely consistent with what could be expected from
informing under conditions of high complexity; because value generally derives from combinations
of attributes rather than from the
sum of individual attributes, we would
expect that overall value from informing
activities will be perceived even though
estimates of the incremental value of
that informing cannot be made.U.S. Office of Naval Research, Contract Number N00244-13-1-0049U.S. Office of Naval Research, Contract Number N00244-13-1-004
Adoption of social networking sites among older adults: The role of the technology readiness and the generation to identifying segments.
Older adults can take advantage of social networking sites (SNS). However, SNS are not without the access gap among elders. Assuming that the data are homogenous within the same population may not be precise in social science research. What is known about the heterogeneous nature of older people? Considering this issue and the lack of research to help reflect the heterogeneity of elderly users of technologies, this study aims to identify segments in the use of SNS by the elderly. Data were collected from older Chilean adults. Cluster analysis suggested different profiles of adult users regarding the Technology Readiness Index. We used a hybrid multigroup partial least squares-structural equation model, including the Pathmox algorithm, to identify segments in the structural model. Based on the technology readiness profiles and the generation, we identified three segments with different determinant effects to explain the intention to use SNS: independent elder, technological-apathetic elder, and technological-eager elder. The contributions from this study are triple. First, this study helps to better understand how the elderly adopt information technology. Second, this study complements the existing corpus of research on using the technology readiness index in the elderly population. Third, we used an innovative method to segment users in the acceptance technology model
