Modified NASA-Lewis chemical equilibrium code for MHD applications
A substantially modified version of the NASA-Lewis Chemical Equilibrium Code was recently developed. The modifications were designed to extend the power and convenience of the Code as a tool for performing combustor analysis for MHD systems studies. The effect of the programming details is described from a user point of view
Segmented trapped vortex cavity
An annular trapped vortex cavity assembly segment comprising includes a cavity forward wall, a cavity aft wall, and a cavity radially outer wall there between defining a cavity segment therein. A cavity opening extends between the forward and aft walls at a radially inner end of the assembly segment. Radially spaced apart pluralities of air injection first and second holes extend through the forward and aft walls respectively. The segment may include first and second expansion joint features at distal first and second ends respectively of the segment. The segment may include a forward subcomponent including the cavity forward wall attached to an aft subcomponent including the cavity aft wall. The forward and aft subcomponents include forward and aft portions of the cavity radially outer wall respectively. A ring of the segments may be circumferentially disposed about an axis to form an annular segmented vortex cavity assembly

Proposal to add medievalist characters to the UCS
This is a proposal to add several Latin characters to the international character encoding standard Unicode. These additions were published in Unicode Standard version 5.1 in March 2008. This proposal includes characters that occur in medieval European philology and linguistics. Some changes were made after the proposal was written, so users should consult the latest Unicode code charts for the most up-to-date repertoire, accessible from:
Traceability for Model Driven, Software Product Line Engineering
Traceability is an important challenge for software organizations. This is true for traditional software development and even more so in new approaches that introduce more variety of artefacts such as Model Driven development or Software Product Lines. In this paper we look at some aspect of the interaction of Traceability, Model Driven development and Software Product Line
Carbon saturation of silicon target under the action of pulsed high-intensity ion beam
The action of the pulsed high-intensity ion (carbon) beam on the silicon target is investigated by means of the theoretical model. The forming of the carbon concentration profile in depth of the silicon sample is modelled. It is argued, that there are two ways of the profile forming: short-pulsed ion (carbon) implantation and diffusion of the carbon atoms adsorbed on the silicon surface. It is shown, that the carbon atoms adsorbed on the silicon surface and diffused into the silicon target play the main role in the concentration profile forming
Use of approximations of Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman inequality for solving periodic optimization problems
We show that necessary and sufficient conditions of optimality in periodic
optimization problems can be stated in terms of a solution of the corresponding
HJB inequality, the latter being equivalent to a max-min type variational
problem considered on the space of continuously differentiable functions. We
approximate the latter with a maximin problem on a finite dimensional subspace
of the space of continuously differentiable functions and show that a solution
of this problem (existing under natural controllability conditions) can be used
for construction of near optimal controls. We illustrate the construction with
a numerical example.Comment: 29 pages, 2 figure
Sialoglycoproteins and N-Glycans from Secreted Exosomes of Ovarian Carcinoma Cells
Exosomes consist of vesicles that are secreted by several human cells, including tumor cells and neurons, and they are found in several biological fluids. Exosomes have characteristic protein and lipid composition, however, the results concerning glycoprotein composition and glycosylation are scarce. Here, protein glycosylation of exosomes from ovarian carcinoma SKOV3 cells has been studied by lectin blotting, NP-HPLC analysis of 2-aminobenzamide labeled glycans and mass spectrometry. An abundant sialoglycoprotein was found enriched in exosomes and it was identified by peptide mass fingerprinting and immunoblot as the galectin-3-binding protein (LGALS3BP). Exosomes were found to contain predominantly complex glycans of the di-, tri-, and tetraantennary type with or without proximal fucose and also high mannose glycans. Diantennary glycans containing bisecting N-acetylglucosamine were also detected. This work provides detailed information about glycoprotein and N-glycan composition of exosomes from ovarian cancer cells, furthermore it opens novel perspectives to further explore the functional role of glycans in the biology of exosomes.EU Joint Programme JPND/0003/2011, FCT grant: Pest-OE/EQB/LA0004/2011, FCT PhD fellowship
Weak exponential stability for time-periodic differential inclusions via first approximation averaging
Published online: 20 June 2012In this work we propose a method to study a weak exponential stability
for time-varying differential inclusions applying an averaging procedure to a first
approximation. Namely, we show that a weak exponential stability of the averaged
first approximation to the differential inclusion implies the weak exponential stability
of the original time-varying inclusion. The result is illustrated by an example.FC
