PolySTRAND Model of Flow-Induced Nucleation in Polymers
We develop a thermodynamic continuum-level model, polySTRAND, for flow-induced nucleation in polymers suitable for use in computational process modeling. The modelâs molecular origins ensure that it accounts properly for flow and nucleation dynamics of polydisperse systems and can be extended to include effects of exhaustion of highly deformed chains and nucleus roughness. It captures variations with the key processing parameters, flow rate, temperature, and molecular weight distribution. Under strong flow, long chains are over-represented within the nucleus, leading to superexponential nucleation rate growth with shear rate as seen in experiments
Restrictive covenants in Xanadu
Legal scholarship is naturally inclined towards explanations and justifications of contemporary law. In the case of restrictive covenants and building schemes this has led to a distorted perception of the historical record, as revealed in recorded case reports dating from the nineteenth century. It is argued that the restrictive covenant had its historical genesis not in a response to industrialisation and mass urbanisation, but in the developments of resort towns in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, as a response to the needs of land developers. Furthermore, it is argued that a better historical understanding of these origins illuminates contemporary problems concerned with the adaptability of law and the potential roles of law in development
Under one roof? A population-based survey of patient use and preference for sexual health services
To compare patterns of population service use and preference in areas with and without one-stop shop services. A number of strategy documents have recommended adopting a more integrated approach to sexual health service provision. One proposed model of integration is one-stop shops, where services for contraception and sexually transmitted infections are provided under the same roof. Currently, the potential impact of one-stop shop services on patient service use and preference is unclear, particularly at a population level. Three different models of one-stop shop were studied: a dedicated young personsâ service, a specialist mainstream service, and an enhanced general practice. In each model, the one-stop shop site was matched to two control sites with traditional service provision. Random samples of male and female patients were selected from general practices close to either the one-stop shop or control sites. These patients received a postal survey asking about their use or preference for services for six sexual health needs. One-stop shop and control samples were compared using multivariate logistic regression. Of the 14 387 patients surveyed, 3101 (21.6%) responded. In the young personsâ model, few significant differences were found in service use or preference between those living in one-stop shop and control site areas. In the specialist services model, women in the one-stop shop area were significantly more likely to cite specialist services for emergency contraception and abortion advice, when compared to those served by non-integrated control services. In the general practice model, respondents in the one-stop shop area were significantly more likely to cite general practice for all six sexual health needs. Overall, general practice was the preferred service provider cited for all sexual health needs, except condoms and pregnancy tests. These findings are discussed in terms of their implications for the provision of integrated sexual health services. implications of Chandrasekhar's theory of gravitational encounters for motion

Multi-lepton signals from the top-prime quark at the LHC
We analyze the collider signatures of models with a vector-like top-prime
quark and a massive color-octet boson. The top-prime quark mixes with the top
quark in the Standard Model, leading to richer final states than ones that are
investigated by experimental collaborations. We discuss the multi-lepton final
states, and show that they can provide increased sensitivity to models with a
top-prime quark and gluon-prime. Searches for new physics in high multiplicity
events are an important component of the LHC program and complementary to

Super-resolution far-field ghost imaging via compressive sampling
Much more image details can be resolved by improving the system's imaging
resolution and enhancing the resolution beyond the system's Rayleigh
diffraction limit is generally called super-resolution. By combining the sparse
prior property of images with the ghost imaging method, we demonstrated
experimentally that super-resolution imaging can be nonlocally achieved in the
far field even without looking at the object. Physical explanation of
super-resolution ghost imaging via compressive sampling and its potential

The Galaxy Structure-Redshift Relationship
There exists a gradual, but persistent, evolutionary effect in the galaxy
population such that galaxy structure and morphology change with redshift. This
galaxy structure-redshift relationship is such that an increasingly large
fraction of all bright and massive galaxies at redshifts 2 < z < 3 are
morphologically peculiar at wavelengths from rest-frame ultraviolet to
rest-frame optical. There are however examples of morphologically selected
spirals and ellipticals at all redshifts up to z ~ 3. At lower redshift, the
bright galaxy population smoothly transforms into normal ellipticals and
spirals. The rate of this transformation strongly depends on redshift, with the
swiftest evolution occurring between 1 < z < 2. This review characterizes the
galaxy structure-redshift relationship, discusses its various physical causes,

Optically trapped bacteria pairs reveal discrete motile response to control aggregation upon cellâcell approach
Aggregation of bacteria plays a key role in the formation of many biofilms. The critical first step is cellâcell approach, and yet the ability of bacteria to control the likelihood of aggregation during this primary phase is unknown. Here, we use optical tweezers to measure the force between isolated Bacillus subtilis cells during approach. As we move the bacteria towards each other, cell motility (bacterial swimming) initiates the generation of repulsive forces at bacterial separations of ~3 ÎŒm. Moreover, the motile response displays spatial sensitivity with greater cellâcell repulsion evident as inter-bacterial distances decrease. To examine the environmental influence on the inter-bacterial forces, we perform the experiment with bacteria suspended in Tryptic Soy Broth, NaCl solution and deionised water. Our experiments demonstrate that repulsive forces are strongest in systems that inhibit biofilm formation (Tryptic Soy Broth), while attractive forces are weak and rare, even in systems where biofilms develop (NaCl solution). These results reveal that bacteria are able to control the likelihood of aggregation during the approach phase through a discretely modulated motile response. Clearly, the force-generating motility we observe during approach promotes biofilm prevention, rather than biofilm formation
