Effects of Nutritional Deficiency of Boron on the Bones of the Appendicular Skeleton of Mice

    Get PDF
Scientific evidence has shown the nutritional importance of boron (B) in the remodeling and repair of cancellous bone tissue. However, the effects of the nutritional deficiency of B on the cortical bone tissue of the appendicular skeleton have not yet been described. Thus, a study was performed to histomorphometrically evaluate the density of osteocyte lacunae of cortical bone of mouse femora under conditions of nutritional deficiency of B and to analyze the effects of the deficiency on the biomechanical properties of mouse tibiae. Weaning, 21-day-old male Swiss mice were assigned to the following two groups: Controls (B+; n = 10) and Experimental (B-; n = 10). Control mice were fed a basal diet containing 3 mg B/Kg, whereas experimental mice were fed a B-deficient diet containing 0.07 mg B/Kg for 9 weeks. The histological and histomorphometric evaluations of the mice fed a B-deficient diet showed a decrease in the density of osteocyte lacunae in the femoral cortical bone tissue and the evaluation of biomechanical properties showed lower bone rigidity in the tibia.. . . .Fil: Gorustovich Alonso, Alejandro Adrian. Anatomical features of branches of the femoral artery

    Get PDF
The basis branch of femoral artery is the deep artery of the hip. Numerous researches have shown a significant variation of origin and branching of the given vessel. In literature, variation of topographical relations between the origin of deep artery of the hip and inguinal ligament is described. Most often the artery originates 5-6 cm below inguinal ligament, rarely- just under it, and the rarest variant- at the level of inguinal ligament. Many authors describe lower origin of the artery- 10-11 cm from inguinal ligament. Also, it is known as origin of the deep artery of the hip from medical semicircle of the femoral artery and external iliac artery above inguinal ligament. At the beginning of the a. profunda femoris from postero- external edge of the femoral artery, it goes downwards and laterally. If the vessel originates from the back semicircle, it goes along the posterior wall, then passes under its external edge and goes laterally. If the artery arises from posterial- internal edges of the femoral artery it passes between femoral artery and vein. Many variants of origin of branches of the deep artery of hip are described in literature. One or both circumflex arteries depart directly from the femoral artery. In such cases only perforating arteries whose quantity can vary, originate from deep artery of hip. If the deep artery is absent, all branches inherent in it depart from the femoral artery. A. circumflexa femoris lateralis more often departs from 1,5-2 cm below the beginning of deep artery of hip. When a. circumflexa femoris lateralis divides on ascending and descending branches, the latter also can be accepted as additional deep artery of the hip. A. circumflexa femoris medialis more often originates 1-1,5 cm from deep artery of hip beginning. Adachi (1928) describes the variant at which the a. circumflexa femoris medialis originates from the femoral artery on 16 cm below the inguinal ligament. So, it is visible that there is sharp problem of variability of arteries of hip. Further research is required on this question

To prevent the high frequency of wound infections, anti-bacterial agents can be loaded onto composites. In the present study, the antibiotic tetracycline hydrochloride (TC)was incorporated, for the first time, in collagen type I membranes coated with nano-sized SiO2-CaOP2O5 bioactive glass (n-BG) obtained by a sol-gel chemical route. Collagen membranes coated with n-BG were immersed in simulated body fluid (SBF) containing 0.25, 0.75 or 1.25 mg mL−1 of TC for 48 h at 37∘C following a coprecipitation method. The antibiotic was released in distilledwater at 37∘C for up to 72 h. The antibacterial activity of the composites was evaluated in vitro by the inhibition zone test and plate count method. Two different Staphylococcus aureus strains, S. aureus ATCC29213 and S. aureus ATCC25923, were exposed to the biomaterials. The results showed that the incorporation but not the release of TC was dependent on the initial concentration of TC in SBF. The biomaterials inhibited S. aureus growth, although the efficacy was similar for all the concentrations. The results allow us to conclude that the new composite could have potential in the prevention of wound infections.Fil: Rivadeneira, Josefina. Introduction: Diagnostic of human vascular system is an actual problem in medicine. Angiography of a. uterina with the purpose of diagnostics of pathological conditions is used in gynecology and surgery. However sometimes it is not possible to study a structure of a. uterina, therefore we have made attempts to establish the correlations of parameters of the artery with another artery of pelvis. Methods of research: macromicropreparation, angiography, morphometry, statistical. Conclusions: Strong association between histopathologic grade and TAM density, their arrangement in immediate vicinity with invasive front, integration among endothelial cells of vascular structures, presence inside the emboli strongly indicate on TAM involvement in uterine cervix neoplasia progression

Aims: To evaluate the antibacterial efficacy of silicate bioactive glass nanoparticles/collagen composites functionalized with tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH). Methods and Results: Different concentrations of tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) were incorporated on silicate bioactive glass nanoparticles/collagen composites by dipping these biomaterials for 48 h at 37°C in a solution of simulated body fluid (SBF) plus 0 05, 0 20 or 0 35 mg ml1 of the antibiotic. TCH release was assessed in double-distilled water at 37°C up to 72 h. The antibacterial activity of the samples has been evaluated in two ways: inhibition zone test and plate count method. The experiments were performed in vitro up to 48 h on four staphylococci strains (Staphylococcus aureus ATCC29213, ATCC25923, ATCC6538P and Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC12228). The new composites were also tested for cytotoxicity on MG-63 human osteosarcoma cells. The results showed that the incorporation and release of TCH was dependent on the initial concentration of TCH in SBF. The biomaterials also inhibited the Staph. aureus cell growth even though the efficacy was similar for all concentration. On the other hand, no cytotoxic effects were found on osteoblast-like cells, even at the highest concentration. Conclusions: Considering all results, it can be concluded that the new composite acts as a suitable bioactive carrier of TCH and could have potential in the prevention of biomaterial related infections. Significance and Impact of the Study: The results suggest a potential application as wound dressing.Fil: Rivadeneira, Josefina. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Variant anatomy of the coronary arteries and their branches. Mathematical calculations type blood supply heart based morphometric parameters

    Get PDF
Introduction: Despite the long history of the study of the heart as the central organ of cardio - vascular system, the problems associated with the pathology of coronary arteries (CA) and their branches do not lose their relevance to this day. For many years, the focus was research CA, in various pathologies, the results of which do not provide a complete picture of architectonic features and morphometric characteristics. Equally important is to determine the blood supply of the heart (TBSH). The classical definition of TBSH describes exclusively anatomical features architectonic vessels and does not give the amount of blood flowing through the vessels and the blood supply to the area. "White Spots" to explore issues underscore the urgency of research topics in theoretical and clinical relationships. Purpose and objectives: To determine the particular variant anatomy and subepicardial vascular branching CA, as well as mathematically calculated based on the type of blood supply to the morphometric data. Subjects: 58 human heart preparations of both sexes. Methods: Makrodissection, mikrodissection, morphometry, the statistical method, mathematical modeling. Results: During the study it was found that the left coronary artery (LCA) has three options architectonics: typical - bifurcation, with the division into two branches (anterior descending branch (ADB) and the circumflex branch (CB) - 75%), trifurcation (ADB, CB and left marginal branch (LMB) - 23%), kvadrifurkatsiya (ADB, CB, LMB and branch cone (BC) - 2%). ADB for the anterior interventricular sulcus also has 3 options architectonics: 1 - reaches apex of the heart - 55 % 2 - disappears between the middle and lower third of the anterior interventricular sulcus - 15 % 3 - goes around the top of the heart and extends into the lower third of the posterior interventricular sulcus - 30 %. As well, we have developed an algorithm of actions and calculations, allows us to calculate TCS from a mathematical point of view, given the above mentioned morphometric parameters. Conclusion: The method proposed for the detenuination o f blood supply with the help of mathematical calculations, to determine the TBSH based not only on the anatomical structure as well as on the morphometric parameters of the heart. Data on structural - functional organization and topographic - anatomical relationships VA obtained using modern research techniques, including computer programs, can be used in anatomy - in particular, in addition to the guidelines, as well as in cardiology and cardiac surgery
